I have installed opensuse 11.4 couple of days ago. Installation went smoothly. Everything is working just fine except the screen resulation. My Monitor supports up to 1366*768. The Display Settings in 11.4 gives option of 1366*768, But whenever I maximize any window (say firefox, opera etc) I can not see the close button & scroll-bar. Here is my xorg file of monitor.

I have noticed since upgrading to 11.04 that my USB camera will turn on for a couple of seconds at random times.
Is there any way to determine what task is doing this?
It is very disturbing and makes me suspicious that I'm being spied on.
I could unplug the camera, but I'd rather track down the source of the problem.

I'm using ubuntu 8.04, and when I load some things, like some games, it tells me I need flash player 10. I have downloaded it multiple times and installed it multiple times but nothing is working as it should. Is it because I'm still on 8.04?

How do you loop a video a number of times in ffmpeg or mencoder? I made a ogv out of a gif. It loops 1 time, so it's less than a second.

I have ubuntu installed on my Acer Aspire One 11.6 160GB and I cannot find a decent resolution. If I go to system>preferences>monitor it says "unknown" (that is the system does not recognize the size of the screen)
I had found a post helping to add a screen definition through the terminal but it did not help, I also checked what resolution I should use as standard but still

Every once in a while when I plug my ipod (160gb 5 generation) in, it gets mounted as root.
If I eject and restart the ipod, the next time I plug it in, it is mounted as my normal user.

I'm using two screens where one Is cheep Denver TV screen with DVD player. I have just install Jessie on my PC. Before i had Windows and there was no problems finding correct resolution for this screen. Now Jessie recognize it as Unknown and the maximum resolution I can set is 1024x768 what is way to small even for this screen. At Windows resolution was something over 1200px wide. The worst thing about it is that this resolution stretches the display really ugly. You may think I'm making big deal of nothing but for me it is actually a deal. I'm graphical designer and I need to see display as it is.

I recently installed (dual booting) Ubuntu 10.04 on a Samsung QX411-W01 running Windows 7. It's a system with with two graphics drivers (Intel HD 3000 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M, 1GB).
Right now when I try to change the monitor settings, Ubuntu doesn't seem to detect my proper capabilities (currently only allowing 1024x768 when Windows 7 is as good as 1366x768. )
I don't really know how to go about fixing this issue. I've tried reading through the forums, but I'm not finding any solutions.
Also I am unable to turn on any form of desktop effects. It seems the issue is with the driver.

I'm having problems adjusting my screen resolution. I'm using Nvidia Geforce FX5300 video card and Samsung T220P LCD screen with resolution of 1920x1200. After installing the Nvidia driver I went to system -> preferences -> display in order to change the resolution to 1920x1200. Unfortunately, the available resolutions were only 640x480 and 320x240. I tried to set the resolution manually, using the advanced button, but when I did this everything was extremely big on my screen.

I've also encountered this problem with a 9600GT.

I've been having a fit with Ubuntu (even tried updating to the new version). I have a USB camera (1.3mp- 1024x768 ) that I need to observe and capture images with (microphotography). I've downloaded and installed multiple packages, but have not found any way to change the default resolutions for V4l2. The resolution closest to what I need is 1024x816, but the video is torn and unusable. One program, Kamoso, worked fine in 640x480 mode, but as soon as I upgraded to Ubuntu 10, it went to the higher resolution (1024x816) which doesn't work right.
Is there some way to force v4l2 into a 1024x768 mode? The camera is a Tucsen 1.3mp microscope camera. I've emailed the company for more information and to see if they would email me the software/drivers (I lost the driver disk in a fire), but nothing so far from them.
The programs I've installed and tried: Camorama, Kamoso, Xsane, Cheese, VLC media player, v4l2ctrl, v4l2ucp, v4lctl, v4l-info. Camorama doesn't work, Kamoso- you couldn't change resolutions (ditto for Xsane), Cheese - I can change resolutions, but they have these crazy values that don't work, VLC media I cannot change either. I'm supposed to be able to use v4l2ucp to change settings, but I don't get the screen that the preview for the program (in Ubuntu Software) showed.

I'm using Karmic and just recently had to do a fresh install. After installing I immediately ran the update manager and updated everything I was told to update. Upon rebooting, my resolution is stuck at either 800x600 or 640x480. I've been searching around for a while now, and none of the fixes I've looked at have worked with my architecture. Here's my lspci output.

I just switched monitors to a Viewsonic VX2025 and I am unable to get beyond 1280 x 1024 using the nvidia x server settings. My graphics card is a GeForce 5200. These are connected with a DVI plug. I would like to be able to set my resolution to 1920 x 1080. (Also, the card and monitor worked at 1920 x 1080 in a previous windows machine.)
I have done a fair bit of searching and it appears that my issue is either the x configuration file or EDID. After 2 days of working with this it's gotten confusing to say the least. So, I'm looking to see if others have had a similar problem and how to solve it. I have not altered an x config file before, so not exactly sure of where to begin.
