Ubuntu Multimedia :: WebcamStudio Not Working/Preview?
Apr 11, 2011
I am probably, over looking a simple option or such, but I can't get WebcamStudio to show my desktop instead of this default preview. I have selected Desktop in source and in output is set to Show Splash Screen preview... But how do I get my desktop instead of the Splash screen preview, and I would like to use this for ustream or justin.tv. Rigth now, ustream sees the option for WebcamStudio, and see the preview, but I can't figure out how to change the preview to the input of my desktop.
I'm using webcamstudio in firefox on a site called stickam and i set the camera to webcamstudio but it either shows nothing or a frozen gray picture i even tried starting it b4 i start firefox but nothing. my webcam is logitech C250. how to get this working? or give me steps on how to broadcast it on a flash based site?
im using 10.04, however when i hover over mp3's they dont start playingl like they used to. In nautilus>preferences i see that the audio is set to preview so i dont get why its not workng? if any1 can offer me the solution to this, i'd be much obliged.
i'm actually running linux mint 9 x64, but i decided to come here because the linux mint forums are down.
pretty much, i got fed up with pulseaudio causing the sound in flash videos/animations to be delayed, and after looking for weeks and finding no solution, i decided to dump pulseaudio and go with esound.
everything's gone fine until i decided to try webcamstudio. as soon as i run webcam studio, all audio ceases to work. this means that any videos videos playing in firefox suddenly become silent, and all system sounds are muted. the only way to cure it is to close webcamstudio and then close firefox. then all the sounds come back.
just as a warning, i'd prefer not to reinstall pulseaudio! if my flash videos don't work properly, then i had might as well throw linux out the window.
For an (art)installation I want a camera (webcam) to stream it's data to another computer with icecast2 server installed (including theora) in the same space. Problem is I need something without a gui.
The webcam is /dev/video0, and I would like to stream the video with vloopback (is working already with 2 pipes) to /dev/video3. If I'm right then I should be able to stream /dev/video4 to icecast.
How can I make the webcam video go into pipe /dev/video3? From [URL] I understand I have to do:
Code: resize /dev/video0 /dev/video3 320x240 320x240 But then I get:
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 and would like to use WebCamStudio with Skype 2.1 beta for ubuntu 32 bit. I though skype displays WebCamStudio as one of the webcams its not able to stream output of WebCamStudio to other person...
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and my problem is with this one video the preview icon in nautilus will not load for me. It's encoded the same as the other 120 videos on the drive and plays just fine in totem. I copied the video from another drive and the preview icon for the video is present on it. Just seems like it's not even attempting to create a preview icon, is there a way of making it?
I use Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04, and usually I record my desktop with the program "Record my Desktop", the format of the video is: .ogg, when I had Ubuntu Karmic Koala, I recorded my screen then in kdenlive added audio and effects and all's right, but now i update to Lucid Lynx, and trying to edit my video in Kdenlive and I obtain this screen(I attached my screen), I noticed that the new video that I record after the upgrade of Ubuntu, I can't view the preview with Kdenlive, but with the old record, I can view the preview. And also i noticed that with pitivi, the new program to edit videos of Lucid Lynx, works fine, with new and old recordings, don't have problem.
What is the name of the package needed to obtain thumbnail previews in Konqueror?I'm still running Lenny, so I need the name of the relevant KDE 3.5 package. Google searches return too many useless results, so I'm hoping someone will remember the name of the package.
At some point after one of the many updates I do to my system, I seem to have lost the ability to preview myself on cam. Simply put, software like CamStream and Cheese just give me a black screen when I open it up. So, I cant see how I look on cam and what's in or out of the shot. If I tell Cheese or Camstream to capture a still, there is no problem. In fact, that is the only way I can determine what the camera is seeing of me and my background.
The only "solution" is to either have Cheese takke my pic and determine from there (as just mentioned), or go on a video chat room and have it use my camera to give me a real-time look at what the camera is aimed to. As someone who creates webcam videos for upload, and sometimes needs to move the camera while still live, this is not convenient so I hope to fix it.
Here are the command line outputs Im getting:
Cheese:
Code: ** (cheese:3704): WARNING **: could not generate thumbnail for /home/lixen69y2k/Webcam/2010-08-25-101226.ogv (video/ogg) ** (cheese:3704): WARNING **: Icon 'video-ogg' not present in theme Camstream:
Could not grab image (select timeout): Resource temporarily unavailable.Seems that GUVCview gives me the best articulation of what the problem is. I have both a built-in webcam for my laptop as well as a USB one. Both seem to have this problem so I know its a case of some part of my software being the trouble.
My webcam works at my end but two people have said they can't see me their end using skype. They webcam with other people so i know it is not their settings or anything. One has a mac and the other a windows machine. I really don't have anyone else to test this with as most people i know don't have webcams.
Im using spotify for Linux Preview, importing of local files is working now, but i can not play them.I get this error message:"There is a problem with the sound decoder. Spotify can't play music" Soo... what codec am i missing?I can play those mp3-files in other programs(Totem, Rhytmbox) with no problems at all.
After I manually installed multimedia codecs, like w32codecall, I got Linux to play movies and I also got thumbnail previews of them in Dolphin. However, I noticed that recently Dolphin doesn't display my thumbnails anymore. I don't quite recall whether the any video player could use my installed codecs, at least xine works. The only thing that could have caused that is actually the automatic system updates I received. I still have my multimedia codecs installed, but Dolphin doesn't show the movie previews anymore.
After upgrading to gnome 2.28.2 and Nautilus 2.28.4, nautilus leaves text file(including .php .jave etc,.) icon blank while it works well with image and pdf files.
gnomevfs-info asd Name : asd Type : Regular MIME type : application/octet-stream Size : 27433
Not showing "Default app" but automatically opened by gedit. I am sorry but I don't really know what info matters. So tell me what info I should post here.
I enabled the windows preview effect from CCSM but it seems to be working only for the open windows. For the windows that I have minimized, no preview is shown when I hover over them in taskbar
Is this an expected behaviour ?? Can I change it to be shown for all sorts of windows irrespective of open/closed states ??
I was looking for some film info and ended up at the Apple quicktime website. Clicked on the video preview option (expecting nothing to happen) and it played in a kaffeine window.
I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 and I'm trying to install Webcamstudio through the Software Center but I get this "There isn't a software package called webcamstudio in your current software sources". How do I add this to my software sources?
I have extracted the WebCamStudio java application into a folder in my Fedora 13 x86_64 installation. I can run WebCamStudio with the command java -jar "WebcamStudio.jar".
I can successfully select sources and view preview etc. However, the bottom status line permanently states "no output". There is no vloopback device to select in Cheese, camstream, Skype, AMsn etc. Does anyone know how I can get the loopback device to work?
I have added my username to the group "video"
I only have /dev/video0 - should there be another module for the loopback device?
Anyone know how to get sound during the editing session of Cinelerra? Any ideas out there?
Looks like no sound in rendered file either! So no sound at all with Cinelerra....
p.s. I have sound working fine with all of my other programs. And working with same files on Kdenlive, Kino or Pitivi, all give me sound no problem. Running a basic Karmic Ubuntu Studio 32bit setup.
Hi. I work with large image files. On my ubuntu laptop, the 20 MB files take forever to form the little preview thumbnail icons on the desktop, and everything freezes up until they generate.
I'm poking around my preferences and options, but I can't seem to find a way to tell Ubuntu that I don't want it to form preview icons. Is there some way to turn them off?
I installed it on a Dell Inspiron 531 with the GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 built in video card. From the recommend driver list I installed NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current) [Recommended
Well, turns out it should not have been recommended. I had restarted and all I got was a low res ubuntu logo and a boot right into a full screen terminal. Tried startx and got a no screens found, I look online for about an hour last night and decided to just reinstall, which takes a couple hours when installing all the packages.
I have done more research today and found to install the latest linux x64 driver from nVidias website, which I did, but it does not run. I followed some more instructions and it said to do a sudo chmod +x <file> which I did, and it starts to open and I get You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing.
Im starting to get a little frustrated here, guess Im just used to a lot of the ease of windows and assumed that something like installing a graphics card driver would be easy.
Today i installed lucid and its working fine. But I have tones of .flv and .mp4 videos (from ..... ) which do not show a preview thumbnail when I have selected "Icon View" in Gnome. It shows the standard icon of a movie reel. Am I missing any settings? It used to work great in karmic.
If I want attach some images to e-mail or facebook, I can see just a names of files, usually numbers only. It is dificult to choose the right one, if I can not see prewiews. How can I do it?
