Today i installed lucid and its working fine. But I have tones of .flv and .mp4 videos (from ..... ) which do not show a preview thumbnail when I have selected "Icon View" in Gnome. It shows the standard icon of a movie reel. Am I missing any settings? It used to work great in karmic.

In Windows Media Players Classic, as shown in my example here, you have the length of the video, file size, file name... and in each frame preview you have a time stamp stating at what part of the video the from is from.is there a program in linux that can do this for me? That can generate the same (or maybe more) info automatically?

It's encoded the same as the other 120 videos on the drive and plays just fine in totem. I copied the video from another drive and the preview icon for the video is present on it. Just seems like it's not even attempting to create a preview icon, is there a way of making it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04, and usually I record my desktop with the program "Record my Desktop", the format of the video is: .ogg, when I had Ubuntu Karmic Koala, I recorded my screen then in kdenlive added audio and effects and all's right, but now i update to Lucid Lynx, and trying to edit my video in Kdenlive and I obtain this screen(I attached my screen), I noticed that the new video that I record after the upgrade of Ubuntu, I can't view the preview with Kdenlive, but with the old record, I can view the preview. And also i noticed that with pitivi, the new program to edit videos of Lucid Lynx, works fine, with new and old recordings, don't have problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't how long is has been happening for (I've just upgraded my old computer, so it is now my faster and better machinig), but Nautilus is failing to create thumbnails for anything other than text files.
I've swapped the settings around to try to trigger changes, but even on "Local only" or "Always" with a 10MB cap then Nautilus won't generate previews for anything other than text files. All images/videos/pdfs/web pages that should have thumbnails generated for them have the "pending" icon but never generate a thumbnail. If, however, I open the file (with Eye of Gnome or Gimp) and refresh the folder then the thumbnail appears for the one file I just opened (so I could go through and preview all images, but I'd really rather not!)
I've tried removing/renaming my .local/share/mime folder in case it was incorrectly handling file types, but that didn't help. I've looked in gconf at the thumbnailer apps, but that appears to be for everything except images. Running "evince-thumbnailer" on its own works fine as well and generates an image. There aren't any related errors in .xsession-errors, and I don't know where else Nautilus logs to (running "nautilus --browser" creates a browser window but then drops back to the command line and doesn't print any output).
I'm using openSUSE 11.2 and the default Gnome, with codecs from Packman. A fairly similar setup on my other machine is thumbnailing perfectly fine.
After I manually installed multimedia codecs, like w32codecall, I got Linux to play movies and I also got thumbnail previews of them in Dolphin. However, I noticed that recently Dolphin doesn't display my thumbnails anymore. I don't quite recall whether the any video player could use my installed codecs, at least xine works. The only thing that could have caused that is actually the automatic system updates I received. I still have my multimedia codecs installed, but Dolphin doesn't show the movie previews anymore.

I want file preview to be enabled if I am using icon view, and disabled if I am using list view. This way image folders will be previewed (because I have set such folders to icon view), and other folders wont be (because they default to list view). I also want the desktop to be always previewed.This seems like quite a simple and common-sense desire, but I cant find out anywhere how to do this. At the very least what I'd like is the ability for force preview for a folder if I want to investigate it more closely - even if I have to click a button of select something to do so.

Ubuntu considers that the home directory is a local drive rather than on a networkWe have noticed that file preview are very very slow in 11.04 for pdf's and pictures in nautilus, causing a lag of around 10 seconds for each file. This can cause a problem for folders which hold multiple files which can be previewed. Preview worked fine in previous versions of ubuntu on the same machine, with the same network setup. Previewing of actual local files works faster, but is slower on 11.04, than previous versions.
Both the 10.10 and 11.04 systems are up to date with available updates (11.04 - 2.32.2.1 and 2.30.1 on ubuntu 10)Obviously, there is a work around for this problem - turn off preview. But, it would be nice to turn it on as its a useful feature.

I am writting a script to allow uploading of certain files. I want to limit the files by their filename and mime type, and by making sure the two match up.The first thing I need to do is make sure I've got all the mime types I need added. I have never done this before, but I understand that 'file' (which is what PHP's mime-type finding is based off of) uses magic databases that tell at which point in the file should have signatures of the filetype.
My trouble started when I was unable to determine the filetype of any of my video files. Currently, I have some .MOV and .MP4 files that I am using to test.
I want to be able to play a video file on my pda(Tungsten T5) but from memory the only video file i have seen playable on it was the asf file that is used when it starts up/reboots. I tried other file types in the past that were suggested in maybe a manual or forum or something but they never worked/played. I think it is because of the player installed and i tried installing another player but from memory that didn't install properly or just did not play anything. So if anyone knows of a way to convert files maybe using winff or mencoder i would love that info. I have been googling and have found nothing specific to what i am asking. I do not see anything in winff to convert to asf and cannot remember ever using mencoder.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu 10.10 and have run into a problem recently. When I use print preview in gedit, a "print preview" screen comes up and all of the pages are blank. Sometimes, one or two pages are shown but it is random. This just started to happen when I upgraded to 10.10. I did a fresh install so a partial update would not be an issue.
Are there any ideas what could be wrong? Sorry if this thread exists somewhere else but some google searching and ubuntu fourm searching resulted in nothing.

I have a set of MPEG-4 files, all created by Handbrake, sitting in a directory.
Most of them have an icon that shows a still from the video content, but four of them have the generic "film spool" icon.
Why do some of these files have that generic "film spool" icon? How can I choose the frame to be used as the icon?
I am probably, over looking a simple option or such, but I can't get WebcamStudio to show my desktop instead of this default preview. I have selected Desktop in source and in output is set to Show Splash Screen preview... But how do I get my desktop instead of the Splash screen preview, and I would like to use this for ustream or justin.tv. Rigth now, ustream sees the option for WebcamStudio, and see the preview, but I can't figure out how to change the preview to the input of my desktop.
