I installed ubuntu off of my laptop and put the Ubunto file system on a 1TB hard drive off of a drive enclosure. Now the only way I can access Windows is if the drive is still connected to the laptop. NO EXTERNAL HD No BOOT MENU when I boot up.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have extracted the WebCamStudio java application into a folder in my Fedora 13 x86_64 installation. I can run WebCamStudio with the command java -jar "WebcamStudio.jar".
I can successfully select sources and view preview etc. However, the bottom status line permanently states "no output". There is no vloopback device to select in Cheese, camstream, Skype, AMsn etc. Does anyone know how I can get the loopback device to work?
I have added my username to the group "video"
I only have /dev/video0 - should there be another module for the loopback device?

WebcamStudio 0.55a
I'm using webcamstudio in firefox on a site called stickam and i set the camera to webcamstudio but it either shows nothing or a frozen gray picture i even tried starting it b4 i start firefox but nothing. my webcam is logitech C250. how to get this working? or give me steps on how to broadcast it on a flash based site?
View 9 Replies View Relatedi'm actually running linux mint 9 x64, but i decided to come here because the linux mint forums are down.
pretty much, i got fed up with pulseaudio causing the sound in flash videos/animations to be delayed, and after looking for weeks and finding no solution, i decided to dump pulseaudio and go with esound.
everything's gone fine until i decided to try webcamstudio. as soon as i run webcam studio, all audio ceases to work. this means that any videos videos playing in firefox suddenly become silent, and all system sounds are muted. the only way to cure it is to close webcamstudio and then close firefox. then all the sounds come back.
just as a warning, i'd prefer not to reinstall pulseaudio! if my flash videos don't work properly, then i had might as well throw linux out the window.
I am probably, over looking a simple option or such, but I can't get WebcamStudio to show my desktop instead of this default preview. I have selected Desktop in source and in output is set to Show Splash Screen preview... But how do I get my desktop instead of the Splash screen preview, and I would like to use this for ustream or justin.tv. Rigth now, ustream sees the option for WebcamStudio, and see the preview, but I can't figure out how to change the preview to the input of my desktop.
This is kinda the Splash Screen Preview

For an (art)installation I want a camera (webcam) to stream it's data to another computer with icecast2 server installed (including theora) in the same space. Problem is I need something without a gui.
The webcam is /dev/video0, and I would like to stream the video with vloopback (is working already with 2 pipes) to /dev/video3. If I'm right then I should be able to stream /dev/video4 to icecast.
How can I make the webcam video go into pipe /dev/video3? From [URL] I understand I have to do:
Code:
resize /dev/video0 /dev/video3 320x240 320x240
But then I get:
Code:
Usage: resize [-u] [-c] [-s [rows cols]]
[Code]....
When trying to compile the webcamstudio modulae (ws4gl.org) it doesn't give an error, but when I want to modprobe it....

View 2 Replies View RelatedI cannot get ubunto 10.04 to boot on my 1.2 ghz 256 mb ram powerpc ibook g4. I downloaded/ burned the live disc and it worked just fine in my powerpc imac g5 (both g4, g5 were supported I believed)It gets to the screen where I select my image to boot, and that works by it says after failing to load for several minutes: "144.9818211 b43-phy0 ERROR: firmware file "b43-openucode.fw" not found you must go to URL... to download to correct firmware for this driver version".I've gone to the website and found a 43 driver and am not sure how to update/ install it...
the hard drive (30 gb) is shot, kaput. currently no os, though I would like to have a firewire drive with tiger or leopard, and potentially a linux partition if even possible. So here are my biggest questions: can any version of ubunto boot on my ibook from a firewire drive? Can i create a dvd that boots in my ibook that not only has the operating system but also some lightweight application on the dvd so that I can run linux just from the dvd as a toy?I'm not replacing the internal hard drive, it's too costly and not worth it when I have several other working macs running snow leopard already.

Try again to mount the CD-ROM? <Yes> <No>"
I don't have an installation cd-rom! I put the .iso file onto a memory stick, inserted it into my old computer (which i will turn into a server later) , restarted it and got past the first two slides and got this error? Do I have to put the iso on a cd-rom?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to somehow do a yum installation (or equivalent of) on a system that is offline with no access to the internet. (I do have access to another Linux system that has internet access, but the Linux installations on both systems have different packages installed and enabled.)
Let's say the command to enter is 'yum install pkg1 pkg2 pkg3' (the documentation for some applications I need indicate the installation instructions this way, and not as the actual RPMs I need). Is there a way for me to run that on my offline system?
e.g. one way I can think of is to run that command on the online system, somehow if possible take note of what RPMs get installed, then transfer them to the offline system via USB and install all the RPMs via rpm command.
The problem with my above idea is that the two systems have different packages enabled, so even if yum on the online system shows a few dependencies being downloaded, I could run download and install all these RPMs and their dependencies on the offline system only to find several more missing dependencies, and dependencies of those dependencies.
I've got an ASUS eee1005 that I'm trying to load eeebuntu -- I've read good things about it! However, I managed to get it (partially) installed using only unetbootin and the eeebuntu-nbr iso. Luckily I've got other working laptops in the house, or I'd be stuck because now I've got a partially installed distro that isn't allowing me usage of my wireless. Basically, what I'd like to do is be able to go back to the install process and load all the packages I want, which, hopefully, will give me NetworkManager so that I can finally connect. I can boot to the thumbdrive (8gig, btw) but I don't think I've got the right files on it to do the install. Here's what appears on the thumbdrive:
[code]...
I would think that with these files on the thumbdrive, it could find its way into the install process. Apparently not. I've read most, if not all of the 'install from USB' threads and how-to's, and it's still not working right - Now, having a partially installed distro (with GUI that's not GNOME, or KDE. . ?) Are there any options I can use to pickup where the install left off and start adding packages? Or should I just scrap it and re-install?
I am trying to do a 'light' install of Ubuntu 10.04 using the alternate install CD. Here is how i am planning to do it:
1. Perform a console only installation(Standard system only on d-i tasksel)
2. Install gnome-core
3. Then install the packages i need using apt.
1. Would such an installation lead have any significant performance(RAM usage) advantage over a full fledged installation?
2. Is there a way i could install gnome-core from the installation CD instead of downloading them from the repository?
3. Would installing just gnome-core mean that synaptic & update-manager wouldn't be available? i am hoping that it wouldn't be the case I checked their dependencies from packages.ubuntu.com, it doesn't look like they need gnome-desktop-environment to be installed first.
4. Would such an install have any more device driver related issues (eg.display drivers) than a regular install?

I just installed win 7 and now can't install fedira 13 on the partition that i made for it on the same drive. The problem is that after installation of win 7 i lost the ability to boot form cd. In bios i still have cd set up to boot first and drive second, but win 7 did something that overrides bios set up. I even tried Esc for boot menu, then i select to boot form cd, but it still boots in windows. What can I do to fix this?
