I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and my problem is with this one video the preview icon in nautilus will not load for me. It's encoded the same as the other 120 videos on the drive and plays just fine in totem. I copied the video from another drive and the preview icon for the video is present on it. Just seems like it's not even attempting to create a preview icon, is there a way of making it?
View 2 RepliesI use Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04, and usually I record my desktop with the program "Record my Desktop", the format of the video is: .ogg, when I had Ubuntu Karmic Koala, I recorded my screen then in kdenlive added audio and effects and all's right, but now i update to Lucid Lynx, and trying to edit my video in Kdenlive and I obtain this screen(I attached my screen), I noticed that the new video that I record after the upgrade of Ubuntu, I can't view the preview with Kdenlive, but with the old record, I can view the preview. And also i noticed that with pitivi, the new program to edit videos of Lucid Lynx, works fine, with new and old recordings, don't have problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter I manually installed multimedia codecs, like w32codecall, I got Linux to play movies and I also got thumbnail previews of them in Dolphin. However, I noticed that recently Dolphin doesn't display my thumbnails anymore. I don't quite recall whether the any video player could use my installed codecs, at least xine works. The only thing that could have caused that is actually the automatic system updates I received. I still have my multimedia codecs installed, but Dolphin doesn't show the movie previews anymore.

I have a set of MPEG-4 files, all created by Handbrake, sitting in a directory.
Most of them have an icon that shows a still from the video content, but four of them have the generic "film spool" icon.
Why do some of these files have that generic "film spool" icon? How can I choose the frame to be used as the icon?
I remember reading a thread about creating preview icon for MP4 files, but can't find it, does anyone know how to do it?

Skype: just installed 2.1.0.81-suse.i586rpm, starting it I get just the icon jumping on the desktop a bit and nothing else.

After that, I dont have preview about stored file images and even online, Google Images does not showing preview, just colored strips; if I go with the mouse on it, the image comes out.
I want to write a single shell script that allows me to, once executed from a panel launcher, change the image preview setting between "local files only" and never. Right now i have two tiny scripts, one for local files only and another one for never, that is:

and the other says string "local_only". But that means i need to have two launchers, because i don't know how to write the condition <<when set to never, change it to local only. And is it possible to make a script that also changes the launcher's icon when the preview config is set to one or the other value? That way i'd know what it is set to just by looking at it. It would act as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool XD
Today i installed lucid and its working fine. But I have tones of .flv and .mp4 videos (from ..... ) which do not show a preview thumbnail when I have selected "Icon View" in Gnome. It shows the standard icon of a movie reel. Am I missing any settings? It used to work great in karmic.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't how long is has been happening for (I've just upgraded my old computer, so it is now my faster and better machinig), but Nautilus is failing to create thumbnails for anything other than text files.
I've swapped the settings around to try to trigger changes, but even on "Local only" or "Always" with a 10MB cap then Nautilus won't generate previews for anything other than text files. All images/videos/pdfs/web pages that should have thumbnails generated for them have the "pending" icon but never generate a thumbnail. If, however, I open the file (with Eye of Gnome or Gimp) and refresh the folder then the thumbnail appears for the one file I just opened (so I could go through and preview all images, but I'd really rather not!)
I've tried removing/renaming my .local/share/mime folder in case it was incorrectly handling file types, but that didn't help. I've looked in gconf at the thumbnailer apps, but that appears to be for everything except images. Running "evince-thumbnailer" on its own works fine as well and generates an image. There aren't any related errors in .xsession-errors, and I don't know where else Nautilus logs to (running "nautilus --browser" creates a browser window but then drops back to the command line and doesn't print any output).
I'm using openSUSE 11.2 and the default Gnome, with codecs from Packman. A fairly similar setup on my other machine is thumbnailing perfectly fine.
I have some videos I am looking to share and post to a couple of places. I am looking to preview to the potential downloaders the file quality, plus some statistical info. In Windows Media Players Classic, as shown in my example here, you have the length of the video, file size, file name... and in each frame preview you have a time stamp stating at what part of the video the from is from.is there a program in linux that can do this for me? That can generate the same (or maybe more) info automatically?

I have selected Desktop in source and in output is set to Show Splash Screen preview... But how do I get my desktop instead of the Splash screen preview, and I would like to use this for ustream or justin.tv. Rigth now, ustream sees the option for WebcamStudio, and see the preview, but I can't figure out how to change the preview to the input of my desktop.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAt some point after one of the many updates I do to my system, I seem to have lost the ability to preview myself on cam. Simply put, software like CamStream and Cheese just give me a black screen when I open it up. So, I cant see how I look on cam and what's in or out of the shot. If I tell Cheese or Camstream to capture a still, there is no problem. In fact, that is the only way I can determine what the camera is seeing of me and my background.
The only "solution" is to either have Cheese takke my pic and determine from there (as just mentioned), or go on a video chat room and have it use my camera to give me a real-time look at what the camera is aimed to. As someone who creates webcam videos for upload, and sometimes needs to move the camera while still live, this is not convenient so I hope to fix it.

Could not grab image (select timeout): Resource temporarily unavailable.Seems that GUVCview gives me the best articulation of what the problem is. I have both a built-in webcam for my laptop as well as a USB one. Both seem to have this problem so I know its a case of some part of my software being the trouble.
My webcam works at my end but two people have said they can't see me their end using skype. They webcam with other people so i know it is not their settings or anything. One has a mac and the other a windows machine. I really don't have anyone else to test this with as most people i know don't have webcams.

How to get the icon and get to use the application to play audio and video
When I play large HD videos in mplayer, the video and sound frequently get out of sync, and the video plays a little strangely (occasionally speeding up and occasionally slowing down).
I think it's because mplayer is only running on a single core. As I've got a quad-core processor, it seems inefficient. I've seen that there is theoretically a way to get mplayer to work with multicore setups, but it requires compiling with different options. That'd take me a little while to work through.
Ideally there would be a pre-compiled version in the software centre, or a player which has support built in (again, ideally in the software centre). Is there such a thing available?

(and generally online streaming) - this works just fine. this messy video playback also appears when I use cheese to capture video with my webcam. this happens with both VLC and Totem, when in either of those programs playing a video, if I click on one of the top menus, say View in Totem, the video stays on top of the drop down options. In order to see the options I have to hover over them with the mouse at which point they become momentarily visible. I read a post somewhere where someone had a similar problem and it was solved by reinstalling Compiz, but I've tried uninstalling it entirely, reinstalling it, etc. and none of it works. It doesn't happen with flash videos in firefox, it does happen with visualisations in Totem, and it only started happening since I upgraded to 11.04.
