something has happened since I cannot longer watch streams which usually required quicktime (mov,qt), I've the medibuntu package and everything was fine till one week ago, maybe something within the last update... I'm using Karmic and Ubuntu Firefox 3.5.4

i've had ubuntu 10.04 for almost 2 months and when i first installed all the media codecs and used chromium everything worked fine and I was able to watch videos on [URL] but for past 2 weeks I haven't...there's been no change to my files, justed updated Chromium. I can view .mov video's in the media players or if I have the direct address but not embedded.

View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading to Lucid Lynx I can't get Gnomad2 to work with my Creative Zen X-Fi. I used to get it to work by running Gnomad2 as a super user, but now the program quits itself when trying to get the songs from the device claiming a segmentation fault.

I am running 10.10 on a 21.5 inch imac. I just ran some updates and rebooted, turned on rhythmbox to play some tunes and realized there is no sound. Tried ....., no yield. Tried a different user account still no sound. SO I rebooted into osx and I have sound. Its therefore a software issue for sure. I plugged in headphones and changed to the appropriate output in the settings manager, sound came out, but out of phase. What going on here? any ideas would be awesome.

It looks like a Qt4 problem, I have installed Qt4 with all possible dependencies, re-installed vlc several times but no effect! cvlc as proposed doesn't react.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI created a quicktime .mov movie file in iMovie on a Mac (that is not available anymore) and I want to 1) play & 2) edit the movie. I'd be happy to use a different format if I can figure out how to change it. Has anyone else done this?
Edit: If you skip down to post #16 you'll see I discovered it actually isn't a matter of editing a .mov file, but it turns out I don't have a properly exported quicktime .mov file. Instead I have (I'm not sure but I think its iMovie ver. 4.) 1) an .iMovieProj text file that lists the cuts by frame in and frame out, 2) an .mov file that isn't the complete file I thought it was and 3) a folder of all the clips that are in Apple's Quicktime DV format. In this thread people taught me about transcoding from the Apple's Quicktime DV format to liberated formats easier to work with. Given this knowledge and since I have a list of the cuts I'm asking if people could recommend a Linux video editor that would be easy to enter the tedious frame in, frame out info so I could reassemble the video.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried to install the H.264 decoder and MPEG=4 AAC, by going to Install/Remove software in openSUSE 11.3 and found h264enc - H.264/MPEG-4 Encoder Frontend,I installed it but nothing seemed to happen when it comes to viewing Quicktime movies. I also noticed that when I right-click on the Quicktime screen, it gives me the option to play the video using Banshee. I then launch it and I doeble click on the video that is listed, the banshee logo flashes and nothing happens. Can someone tell me a way to resolve this, is there a way to resolve it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just did a fresh install of openSUSE 11.3 32bit GNOME on my notebook and everything runs fine...yet
But there is an issue with the sound playback on mp4's and quicktime (apple trailers) that I was not able to fix.
I added the Packman 11.3 repo via Yast -> Software Repositories -> Add... -> Community Repositories
Then I used zypper to get the related gstreamer-plugins ffmpeg faad vlc w32codec-all libmp4v2...
So far the media playback seem good, except the issue of "no sound with gstreamer related media players on quicktime and mp4"...
I set all available/related/installed packages to "Packman" (Yast -> Software Management), did zypper refresh + zypper up but I am simply not able to get sound from gstreamer...It works fine in VLC though!
Some google and forum research showed that it's an issue that has occurred over the recent years but I could not found a proper working solution.
If I run totem from the terminal I get the following output (plus a windows asking for permission to search for the required codec 'MPEG-4 AAC Decoder'...but it is not able to find one!):

The last Message is interesting "All missing plugins are blacklisted..." hmmm I did not blacklist any plugins...where can you see these blacklist? Is that the point, the plugin is there but blacklisted?
I downloaded an FLV video and placed an extra MP3 file over it. Two files. In previous versions of Ubuntu I was able to remap this button to act as double-click using 'xbindkeys'. However, in Lucid this no longer seems to work. X seems to know about all of the buttons on the mouse since 'xinput' lists the device as having 13 buttons and labels button 8 as 'Button Side'. I've recently installed the package xscreensaver-gl-extra, and noticed not one of the screensavers on that package works - all I get is a blank screen on all of them. However, I remember those screensavers working under Jaunty on exactly the same hardware (didn't test them on Karmic).How can I make them work again?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if I have a hardware or OS problem. Firewire on my old G3 iMac has stopped working. Previously I've used a scanner and an external hard drive (Iomega eGo) without problems while running Lucid. Now neither works with the iMac, though they both work when connected to a PC. Both the PC and the iMac are running the latest versions of Lucid.
I can't tell when the problem began since I don't use the scanner or hard drive that often. I did try booting using the live 10.04 CD for PowerPC and had no joy with either device.The LCD on the hard drive lights when connected to the firewire port so power is coming through. The scanner has its own power supply.Checking with lsmod I see that both the modules ieee1394 and ohci1394 are loaded.I suspect it's a problem with the hardware. Does any one have an idea how I can go about verifying that? I'd hate to bin an old faithful without first checking everything out.
ok so last night i had my computer set up and working with both vista and ubuntu dual boot so when i started my computer i had a choice between ubuntu or vista went back and forth a few times to make sure everythign worked fine and it did. so this morning i update my vista basic to 7 home premium well now when i start my computer i no longer have a choice and it boots directly into 7. can someone help me fix this i really liked being able to have both on on hdd

A couple days after an update to Ubuntu 10.10's networking stuff I was unable to connect to my wireless network that had a password. Now, I can connect to a different connection that doesn't have a password but when I try to go to mine it doesn't work.

And yes I do know that the password is correct as I am connecting right now on Win7.
