Mar 15, 2010I remember reading a thread about creating preview icon for MP4 files, but can't find it, does anyone know how to do it?

View 2 RepliesI'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and my problem is with this one video the preview icon in nautilus will not load for me. It's encoded the same as the other 120 videos on the drive and plays just fine in totem. I copied the video from another drive and the preview icon for the video is present on it. Just seems like it's not even attempting to create a preview icon, is there a way of making it?

I have a set of MPEG-4 files, all created by Handbrake, sitting in a directory.
Most of them have an icon that shows a still from the video content, but four of them have the generic "film spool" icon.
Why do some of these files have that generic "film spool" icon? How can I choose the frame to be used as the icon?
Just installed openSUSE 11.3 (KDE) and not expert about it yet, I am experiencing two problems.
Skype: just installed 2.1.0.81-suse.i586rpm, starting it I get just the icon jumping on the desktop a bit and nothing else.
If I try with the command line, this is the result:
After that, I dont have preview about stored file images and even online, Google Images does not showing preview, just colored strips; if I go with the mouse on it, the image comes out.
The Gnome keyboard layout applet, accessible by:
System | Preferences | Keyboard | Layouts | Add...
does not display preview of chosen layout after selecting it. What could be broken?
I want to write a single shell script that allows me to, once executed from a panel launcher, change the image preview setting between "local files only" and never. Right now i have two tiny scripts, one for local files only and another one for never, that is:
[Code]...
and the other says string "local_only". But that means i need to have two launchers, because i don't know how to write the condition <<when set to never, change it to local only. And is it possible to make a script that also changes the launcher's icon when the preview config is set to one or the other value? That way i'd know what it is set to just by looking at it. It would act as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool XD
I'm not too sure what causes this. But why do some video files display a thumbnail preview in Nautilus and others don't? See screenshot below.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04, and now I'm experiencing some problems with the displaying of panels and icons that I'm hoping someone can help me to fix.
Situation: Running 11.04 in latest virtualbox (4.06, with guest additions installed) on a macbook pro running snow leopard (10.6.7). I'm in gnome classic (no effects) because I'm not yet used to gnome 3 and compiz doesn't run all that well for me in this virtualization set-up. But the problem, described below, is consistent from gnome 3 to classic (with effects) to classic (without effects).
Problem: When I first log in after a reboot, everything looks great in the default settings (ambiance theme, I think), but after ~ 15 seconds, the panels and icons revert to an odd looking theme that I don't particularly care for. And trying to change the settings in the "Appearance" preferences is of no help, i.e., I can change the themes, but the panels and icons remain in a stock, old-school gnome-ish theme.
I have this flash drive that I recently reformatted. Before when I mounted it a little icon of the flash drive would pop up. I saved the .ico file that contained the image before formatting and placed it back on the drive. Now all I get when mounting it is a generic sort of icon not the image of the particular drive. How do I get it to display?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've recently started using burg (a modification of grub that shows pictures instead of/with text), and I really like it for booting into Ubuntu and Vista. After many failed attempts of trying to get OSX on my PC, I'd like to try Macbuntu (a theme for Ubuntu that makes it look like a Mac). Unfortunately (fortunately?) my parents have taking a liking to Ubuntu and hate when I change anything, so installing Macbuntu would be a big no-no. I made a copy of Ubuntu and will put it on another partition of my hard drive, but I don't want to have two Ubuntu pictures when burg boots up. Are there any bootup lines I can put inside burg.cfg to fool it into loading an osx picture, then loading Ubuntu?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just installed OpenSUSE 11.2 on a new machine. Because I was still using another machine as my main box while building the new one, the monitor attached when it was installed has a resolution of 1280x1024 @ 77Hz. I've now moved it to be my main machine and the monitor is a widescreen 1680x1050 @ 60Hz model. When I boot it normally the screen fails to come up - even GDM doesn't show. If I boot in failsafe mode the system comes up fine, but in 1280x1024 mode. The 'Configure display settings' icon shows the monitor as 'Unknown'. Couple of things I tried:
1) Switched to runlevel 2 and logged in as root. Ran Xorg -configure and looked at the xorg.conf.new that was installed, but it just had generic info for the monitor:
[code]....
2) While still in runlevel 2 and logged in as root I did a startx. This brought up the X display in 1680x1050 ok, and clicking on the 'Configure display settings' icon showed it had correctly identified my monitor and had set the size and frequency correctly.
3) Given the results of (2), I then tried logging in as myself in runlevel 2, did startx again, but this time the display failed to come up again.
I have using Fedora 12. my video card is ati radeon 7000 with 64mb video ram. i like to see how is Gnome 3 Preview. i install required packages. when i run "desktop-effects" command, a error message appear with following ccontext "Accelerated 3D graphics is not available Desktop effects require hardware 3D support."
I think this is about my video card drivers. so, what drivers i need to install and how i can install them?
I am running Fedora 14 on my Thinkpad T410. Tried to see what Gnome 3 shell looks like. So I went to: System->Preferences->Desktop Effects and chose GNOME Shell. Now the bottom and the top pannels are gone. I can see only the desctop and the icons on it. How can I get back to the previous settings? I tried and tried without any luck.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI did not have any /etc/X11/xorg.conf, so I read on these forums that system-config-display would create one for me. I ran system-config-display and it created an xorg.conf. But now my display is all messed up!! So, I deleted the xorg.conf and nothing changed. Why on earth would the display still be messed up if I deleted the file that was causing it?? Does system-config-display change somethign else?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed Office 2007 under wine, and would like to add launchers for Word, Excel, etc to the Unity launcher bar.
So, I've created a launcher on the Desktop that will run Word with wine. I've changed the icon to the Word Icon and everything works great from the desktop. If I drag that launcher to the Unity bar, it adds it, but changes the icon to the springboard default icon that new launchers use. Please see attached picture.
As a side note, I am really starting to like Unity (puts on flamesuit), but it seems very easy to break the install of 11.04. I've had to reinstall 4 times now.
Ive had a few freeze ups on this system but the last time it affected the top panel. The wireless icon has disappeared to be replaced by an extra bluetooth icon.screenshot attached. Is there any kind of clean up utility (like tune up utilities in win)Also, any kind of log so I can trace this freeze up Iḿ getting.Ive only just got this laptop so dont know if it did it before although prev owner never mentioned it.
