I can hear myself speak in the mic but Ubuntu is not recording/capturing the sound. Actions Taken: I followed all the steps listed here for the Alsa update script. I've also tried changing my /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.config file with the following configurations one at a time.

My capture settings are 'on' in alsamixer as in they are in red with the words CAPTURE underneath it.
I have just installed ubuntu 10.04 and followed that up with Skype. I am running skype 2.1.0.81, downloaded from skype website.
Problem is that my mic which is integrated does not work. On the skype test call, i can hear alright, but when i speak can't hear myself. I have diabled auto ajust mic setting in Skype, but still no joy.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) with Skype, and I can't get the microphone to work. I can hear them, but they can't hear me. I tried the same headset with my Windows system, and it works fine, so the headset is OK.
I looked at "Sound Preferences", and noticed that when I click on the "Input" tab, the area where you can adjust the volume is set at the minimum, and grayed out, so I can't adjust it.
I have some troubles with my microphone.I can hear it in ootput if I knock on it or speak, but I can't record from mic. It also does not work in skype.cant figure out what is the problem.
View 5 Replies View RelatedInstalled Skype latest version on a Mythbuntu 9.10 pretty vanilla install. Tried testing the microphone with it, after getting into AlsaMixer and enabling the mic and such, I got it playing back something but it is like stretched out, so playback goes really slow and deep. what can I do that is more basic for testing the mic to remove Skype from the equation. Mythbuntu is really pared back, so I will likely have to install, I like to keep it to the minimum. What is the easiest way most people test a mic? Second, just in general, what could cause this to act this way. I don't see anything in the mixer that makes me think it is causing it
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some time, my microphone input doesn't reach the recording application, but instead goes directly to the loudspeaker. If I make a sound in the microphone, it will go to the loudspeakers, and Audacity or Skype will not "hear" anything (and of course, with this set-up, there's a constant noise in the loudspeaker, coming from the microphone).This problem goes away if I install PulseAudio. So obviously, there's nothing broken with either of ALSA or hardware, only some misconfiguration somewhere, and PulseAudio can make a sense of the mess. Playing with all sorts of configurations in Alsamixer didn't help.
Unfortunately, I don't want PulseAudio, because it causes output problems which are a bit too subtle for me to describe coherently here. So I'd rather fix ALSA than Pulse.Please direct me into how to investigate this. The OS is Debian Unstable, the audio card is an integrated Intel ALC1200.
how can I adjust the volume level while recording audio playback and microphone at the same time? I managed to increase the audio playback volume with PulseAudio Volume Control (Input devices -> Monitor of Internal Audio Analog Stereo -> pressing green button "Set as fallback"), but once I click on that green button, no no microphone sound is recorded.

I have installed opensuse 11.4 in my lenovo ideapad G460. But, I am not being able to make the inbuilt microphone work. It does not record anything and also does not work in skype. I am not that expert with linux. I looked at different posts in this forum regarding microphone detection problem, bit could not follow. How to setting up my inbuilt microphone?

Now I can hear myself through my headphones so I know the computer is "hearing" it.
But... I still show "No Input Devices Available" in my Pulse Audio volume control so I'm still not able to record... which of course is my whole point.
I have a mic that plugs into the standard microphone jack and It has been working for months and now no matter what setting it's on it won't work! Not a single program works with it! It says its recording but when I hit play I get white noise. Will updating fix the problem?

View 2 Replies View Relatedwhen I try to make a recording in my laptop (integrated mic), I am able to hear myself (when I reproduce it afterwards) but with a lot of noise. I read a solution of going to alsamixer and disabling "L-R" in capture, but when I do that,I am not able to hear anything. Another thing (I don't know if that has to do with it) is that when I go to volume control->recording, every time I see a small red "x" in every mic (microphone, capture, internal mic) and if I enable them, close and reopen volume control the same "x"s appear.

The sound is not muted, and I've tried cycling through various Profile options in the hardware tab. I got an audio disc to play in kaffeine but not in amorok, in setting of amarok i hit the configure phonon and pick my audio device hit test and i can hear sounds.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I use my ubuntu computer to watch some movies that are encoded into 5.1 sound I can't hear the voices of the people in the movie. I guess that is because the voices are put on the front speaker and I have connected the computer to an stereo-amplifier.
I mainly use XBMC and have noticed the problem there but I have also tried VLC and noticed the same problem there. In xbmc I checked the box "Downmix multichannel audio to stereo" but it doesn't work.
I use a standard ubuntu 10.04 64-bit install that was upgraded from a 9.10 install.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI can't hear the music playing on my speakers, BUT i can hear the music playing in my headphones when i insert my headphones jack.
I have tried configuring aslamixer, tried configuring the sound devices but nothing seems to work. i have also installed a lot of music players such as asla player, audacity and so on. i also tried configuring the aslamixer from the terminal but it did's work as well.
I must add that i have linux ubuntu netbook remix 9.10 i386 installed and windows xp home edition sp3. In windows, i have no problem playing any sound. (I am new to linux <2 days> but very experimented with windows <17 years>).
I am having a problem when using Flash. Whenever I am listening to a Flash application (..... primarily), I am unable to hear sound from any other applications (Rhythmbox, movie player, etc).
The converse is also true, if I am using Rhythmbox, and then start ....., the video plays...but with no sound. I have to manually kill the app and web browser (tried multiple...Firefox, Chrome, Swiftfox) to get sounds working correctly. I am my wits end with this problem, and have just putting up with it for several months now.

The first track is the music. I looked at the alsamixer and the mic was originally muted and i unmuted. Should line be muted when i am using the mic? I also tried to record with the mic in sound recorder but got nothing there either.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI use Kaffeine to record live TV to disk for later playback. I've been putting up with Kaffeine's little foibles for the last little while, but tonight (for the second night in a row) I accidentally closed it and consequently it didn't record anything.
Is there any software I can use to construct a recording schedule which will then not be dependent on me remembering to leave a particular app running? I don't really need this in MPEG4 or anything. The PC stays on 24x7 - I just need it to launch a recording at the correct time.
I've avoided MythTV in all it's incarnations because I want the computer to still function as a normal PC most of the time, and from my admittedly brief trial of MythTV it took over the PC and wouldn't let me open a web browser or a mail client.
I have a PVR-150 for recording TV shows.
I can record shows using this command:

I can watch the show.mpg file while its recoding using VLC, Xine, Mplayer... pretty much any video player.
This is nice because i can pause, rewind, and fast-forward live TV, just like all the commercial DVRs out there.
The problem with this method is returning to "Live TV" mode. When using a commercial DVR, when you are fast-forwarding and reach "Live TV", the player stops fast-forwarding and begins playing the live TV in real-time. When doing the same thing with Xine or VLC, the player simply stops when you reach the EOF.
Is there a player that mimics this? When it get close to the EOF, it switches from Fast-Forward to play?
I used to have MythTV, but it way too bloated for what I want to do.
