I"m running an online radio station and would like to run my headphone audio into my microphone or a virtual microphone, either way, I would like my audience to hear what I hear without having to hold the Mic to the speakers.

I can get audio through my microphone into ubuntu and can record into audacity without a problem, however, I do not know how to get JACK to recognize the audio from the microphone (through the normal mic jack)... any ideas how I may accomplish this so I don't need to do all kinds of file conversions and imports to set down a vocal track with the tracks I record (via USB) through JACK?

I just can't figure out how to mix them both. I have tried a lot already and can only get either the mic or the audio playback to be recorded, not both. Can this be done using pavucontroll?
I have been search now for hours to find a solution (also here on the forum) for this and getting really frustrated now. Maybe i'm just missing something really obvious, so sorry if this is a stupid question.

i just upgraded from Skype 2.0.0.72 to 2.1.047. Now my microphone isn't working anymore and i cannot select it in the skype options. From now on i can only select the PulseAudio server ..
So i have read some howtos for PulseAudio. They say i should starte PulseAudio Volume Control. ok.. Now i should go to the tab "Recording". This tab doesnt exist on my pc. I upgraded to the latest version of this volume control. It still doesnt exist.

how can I adjust the volume level while recording audio playback and microphone at the same time? I managed to increase the audio playback volume with PulseAudio Volume Control (Input devices -> Monitor of Internal Audio Analog Stereo -> pressing green button "Set as fallback"), but once I click on that green button, no no microphone sound is recorded.

I'm using openSUSE 11.2 KDE on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi 1536 laptop. My problem is that my microphone (I'm attempting to use a 3.5mm headset) doesn't work. Audio playback however does work through the built-in speakers and headphones.
I have gone through the SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE as suggested by oldcpu on the Welcome to multimedia sub-area sticky.

I was looking for a way to boost the microphone audio (I tried in the menu sound preferences but it did not work) and thefore I installed alsa driver and alsa mixer.Now linux can't find both input audio device and both output audio device.how boost the microphone audio?? I've already patched the iSight firmware, so the the webcam itself works fine, but I have no microphone support. If I go to Sound Recorder, the microphone picks up my voice fine, but not Skype.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst off, this isn't the usual "physical" feedback of a speaker being too close to the mic. This mic is part of a headset so there's no way for the output and input to overlap and cause feedback. This mic has worked perfectly for me in the past, but I recently re-installed my OS and it hasn't worked since.
It seems as if my audio out is getting redirected to microphone in. If I open up and sound recording program while I have some audio being output, the output will get echoed back in through the microphone channel, although any actual microphone input is never picked up. I can blow or scream into the mic and there's no indication at all that Linux is picking it up.
I'm running ArchLinux with ALSA. I've gone into alsa mixer and played with just about every channel in every way I can think of, and none of the options seem to fix the problem.
How should I fix this? I use my mic pretty much constantly when I'm on the computer, being without it sucks.

But that did not work either. I did not get any sound with the last line.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of installing openSUSE-11.1 Gnome on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 7400M laptop because the wireless in Gnome is much more user friendly than KDE3/KDE4 in openSUSE-11.1. The idea is to give this laptop to my 84-year old mother and things need to 'just work' for her (she currently has a desktop running openSUSE-11.1 KDE3 that uses a WIRED interface to the web).
I refuse to update this laptop to openSUSE-11.2 nor 11.3 (nor other recent distributions) because every kernel update after the 2.6.27 kernel has broken the Intel i855GM graphics drivers for that laptop. There are many bug reports and none have fixed the problem for this Fujitsu-Siemens implementation of the i855GM graphics.
Hence I am looking at Gnome.
I booted the laptop to a Gnome openSUSE-11.1 liveCD and wireless is easy and works great. But audio is very very VERY bad. It is incredibly user unfriendly and it does NOT work well. I assume that is because pulse audio in openSUSE-11.1 was very immature.
I note these updated packages in the openSUSE-11.1 update repository:

Currently my wife is using this laptop with KDE-4.4.4 (and openSUSE-11.1) so I can't just install Gnome and play with it without taking the laptop away from her for a while (note the hard drive is too small for a dual boot of KDE/Gnome).

okay, here are the details: can't play any audio with amarok when desktop effects are enabled because the minute a window is moved, it will distort the audio. even when disabling desktop effects, some applications still cause this. can't play videos videos even with desktop effects disabled because of the same reason.
i just switched from ubuntu and when i ran version 11.04, i had to disable kms to do anything. i tried on opensuse 11.4 and the audio was flawless but the gfx went all to hell.
How would I go about re-routing the audio of a Jaunty PC, to another on the same LAN?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having some issues with getting Ubuntu Studio 10.04 to work correctly on my system. Everything works fine except sound. I have a M-Audio Delta 66 audio interface and my onboard sound is disabled. When I run the command alsaconf I can see the ICE1712 card without issue. However when I run alsamixer the only option it is giving me is my HD sound from my ATI video card. For some reason it seems the ATI card has locked the audio to it with no way to remove it. I have reinstalled the alsa drivers for my card and can only see it through alsaconf. When I tell alsaconf to configure the ICE1712 card it says it configured it properly.When I run the command envy24control it says no ICE1712 cards were found.

I'm fairly certain audacity could accomplish this but it seems like overkill for what I'm trying to do and the computer I'm trying to use does not run it so well.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi'm running fedora 12 on a dell dimension 4600. audio seems to work reasonably well for things like flash animation but i cannot for the life of me figure out how to route line-in audio through the system for output to my external speakers. on the sound preferences application on the gnome desktop: if i select the hardware tab and analog stereo input is selected, then i go to the input tab and have analog line-in selected, i see the v-u meter above moving around as though there is actually an input. but, i hear no sound. the output tab shows "dummy output" with no other choices. to get audio working for videos and other flash sites, i have to change to hardware->analog surround 5.0 output. such documentation as i have been able to find doesn't seem to describe my setup well, and in any case, i find all this fidgeting with hardware configurations an immense step back from the old alsa software. if this is going to be the future of linux audio, can i say, please, no?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got 9.10 installed on a dual boot T-43 Thinkpad.The Thinkpad has a built-in microphone which is driving me crazy. I have a pair of outboard Sony speakers sitting on my desk & the sound of the fan and every keystroke is picked up by the mic and amplified back at me through the speakers. If I turn the volume on the speakers up more than about half way the mic picks up the feedback I get a high pitched squeal through the speakers.I've gone into "Sound Preferences" and muted "Input Volume," but it has no effect - the mic is still picking up and amplifying every keystroke & giving me feedback.How can I turn off the damn mic? (by the way, I do not have this problem if I boot into XP)

Sound card is recognized by System/Preferences/Sound/Hardware as CA0106 Sound Blaster 1 Output / 1 Input Analog Stereo Duplex And sound output works 100% perfectly. I Google'd for hours and did not see anything to fix my microphone. My computer has front headphone and microphone ports and the front headphone port works fine but microphone does not. Also I tried plugging microphone into all the ports on the back into sound card but none worked. Also, I ran alsamixer from terminal and maxed out all volume settings. I wish to get the microphone working so I can play Counter Strike Source with Wine. I am willing to buy another sound card if someone can point out a replacement.
