I am unable to hear any sound at all using my M-audio delta 44 soundcard (which works fine in Windows - Dual boot).how I can get this working?

The audio configuration sound test and the answer to the question No returns a message that says: automatic detection of sound card did not work. I am not sure what else is needed to diagnose the problem.
I can't hear the music playing on my speakers, BUT i can hear the music playing in my headphones when i insert my headphones jack.
I have tried configuring aslamixer, tried configuring the sound devices but nothing seems to work. i have also installed a lot of music players such as asla player, audacity and so on. i also tried configuring the aslamixer from the terminal but it did's work as well.
I must add that i have linux ubuntu netbook remix 9.10 i386 installed and windows xp home edition sp3. In windows, i have no problem playing any sound. (I am new to linux <2 days> but very experimented with windows <17 years>).
How might i be able to play a small blip/beep sound to let me hear/test the audio levels upon volume change? Mac OSX users may know what I'm talking about. I had a similar application in windows. It helps me guage my volumes before i play games/...../videos.

I got an audio disc to play in kaffeine but not in amorok, in setting of amarok i hit the configure phonon and pick my audio device hit test and i can hear sounds.

I Tried to play video files (.avi & .vob) in Kaffeine, but was unableo hear any audio. Then i went to the packmn site and installed the packageom there, with no positive results.After that i installed VLC and then tried playing.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem when using Flash. Whenever I am listening to a Flash application (..... primarily), I am unable to hear sound from any other applications (Rhythmbox, movie player, etc).
The converse is also true, if I am using Rhythmbox, and then start ....., the video plays...but with no sound. I have to manually kill the app and web browser (tried multiple...Firefox, Chrome, Swiftfox) to get sounds working correctly. I am my wits end with this problem, and have just putting up with it for several months now.

New Ubuntu installation with a big problem: no sound.
OS: Ubuntu 10.4.1
Hardware: HP Pavilion Elite e9150t (64 bit)
Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
Preliminary checks of sound level settings and obvious dumb stuff but there is still no sound. The problem seems to be that the system does not recognize the existence of the sound card and insists on using alternative audio devices.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOne issue that I'm having with Fedora that's stopping me from dropping Windows altogether is that I can't seem to get my audio in line to play directly to my speakers.
Basically, I've got my games console set up so that it uses the desktop computer's speakers as audio output, and is also plugged in to the same monitor and I can change the source depending on what I want to use it for.
I know the hardware works, as the whole thing works fine when using Windows (XP SP3), and I can still record from the audio in line using Fedora (so I can record me playing the game, then play it back and hear it through the speakers), but I've got no idea as to how to redirect the game sounds directly to the speakers.
Interestingly, every tutorial I've found so far suggests that the opposite should be the problem, and that the situation that I want to be in should be enabled by default. That said, I've been tinkering with the audio packages and whatnot long before I tried using the machine for gaming, so maybe I managed to inadvertently remove a package some time ago.
I have f13 installed in my system.My problem is ,i can hear sound thro' my desktop speakers but not with my audio headset. I have tried in many ways to fix it , by reinstalling pulse audio , installing ALSA etc But failed. In my system menu bar -- in preferences sub menu-- there is no " ADVANCED AUDIO CONTROL" available to edit sound output. similarly i am not able to use the mic of the headphone.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed a tv card but I can't hear the sound through my built-in CMedia soundcard when I watch tv with TVTime. The tv card's audio output is externally connected to my soundcard's line in input. In the 'Input' tab of the 'Sound Preferences' dialog, I can see the input level meter moving.
Audacity can record the tv sound, and I can hear it when I have the 'pass-through' option enabled, or when I play the recording.
I can play media files without a problem, and I can hear the system sounds.
But for some reason I can't get the tv sound to go through to the soundcard's output.
Obviously I've got the audio configured wrong, but I don't know what to do to fix it.
I have installed Skype 2.1 (Beta) in linuxmint Julia, now when I am communicating with anyone or video conferencing, I am able to hear the other person but the other person is unable to hear my voice, I talked with someone else who is facing the same problem in Ubuntu.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an ASUS M5A78L-M LX motherboard with ALC887 inbuilt sound. The sound is barely audible unless the speaker volume is all the way up, and then it is very crackly. The BIOS is set up to use AC97 sound instead of HD Audio, which doesn't work either.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling ALSA drivers but it didn't really change anything.

I am new to using linux. i have installed gOS linux recently on my system. everything is working fine including the updates, videos and graphics but i cannot hear any sound. my pc configuration is intel dual coree 3.4 ghz, 3 gb ddr2 667 ram, intel 945 gcl (integrated sound driver by sigmatel), 160 gb 7200 rpm hard drive( seagate), nvidia 6600 LE 512 ddr2, creative 2.1. i have tried changing the default sound driver from intel hda alsa mixer which is the default as sound driver in the system to sigamel oss mixer but that proved to be of no use actually. i have also connected a few of my friend' pc s to my system to find out any problems if there is with the sound box but there isn't any.the speaker is just working fine with those systems. but when it comes to my own system i cannot hear any sound.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed a fresh copy of Fedora 14 a few days ago. The default drivers for this device worked OK but I read on some forums that OSSV4 had improved performance/capabilities. I came across this thread on the forums which I followed. (incloded removing pulse audio) Since then I have visited almost every forum/site I can find to try to resolve my issue. I have reinstalled pulseaudio and editied almost all of the conf files I could find relating to the xfi cards.
I was worried that I may have changed a config file that I shouldn't have. I removed all of the pulse audio apps using: su -c "yum remove alsa-plugins-pulseaudio pulseaudio padevchooser pavumeter paprefs pavucontrol" and also removed the config backups so that on a new install they would be replaced. I will post any information needed to resolve this issue, my goal is preferably not to use pulseaudio and successfully be able to use my 5.1 analog audio system I am sure that the system is able to see the card, but loading the driver / sound utilities is not working.
I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 and my sound is not working. I have a gateway p-6860FX. i've had this trouble since 9.04 and also in 9.10, but I worked around it by adding the following to my alsa-base.conf with

I went in to alsamixer and turned everything up. it didn't work.
Something is wrong with the audio on my laptop, when I used the live CD previously, nothing was wrong. It's all staticy when the base comes on or like a beat (I don't know how to explain it). Even ..... vids and such. My laptop audio is not usually like this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently got a new audio interface, which is working perfectly on ubuntu 10.04 i just plugged it in and it worked without any tinkering! the interface is a lexicon omega which is fully supported under alsa. The problem is that for some reason it's not working on ubuntu 9.04 (which is where were most of my work currently is so occasionally i still have to use 9.04 as i don't have all of the same software installed on 10.04).
Jack seems to detect it properly in both 9.04 and 10.04 as it is listed in "interfaces". But it does not show up in "Volume Control Alsa Mixer" so I cannot select it from the drop down list.
So currently I have no sound (just in case you weren't able to decipher that from my primitive ubuntu-speak above )
