As title states, they are missing, and from every window. I have googled this and found fixes but in doing some of the "fixes" the bar at the top of the screen disappears and docky becomes effectless.

How about floating windows above desktop cube? Dodge? In which upon selecting a window, the non-selected windows move around it to move it to the front.I also notice that many window updates are very poor. For example, in the compiz settings manager when I switch tabs, the window does not actually update unless I move it. I click on a tab and it looks just like the previous tab. If I move the mouse around, it will update the wind in blocks under the mouse, but not the whole window. And, it would appear that the standard compiz is still available from my desktop settings in KDE. Could I have failed to remove the original compiz?
How do I move the Window control buttons when the window is in full screen mode? I.e.: I know how to go into gconf-editor:
Code:
gconf-editor --> apps --> metacity --> general --> button layout = ":minimize,maximize,close"
(I've intentionally disabled the menu...)
What I want is my window controls to be on the right side of the window when the window is in full screen mode.
Also I've had an issue with the Unity dockbar glitching out. I can still click on the buttons (i.e. the logout button) but it displays like a nintendo game inserted crooked. Is there a way to 'restart' unity without log out/ log in?
Any one else experienced any glitches with unity auto hiding/showing?
How to move the Windows control button ( Minimize, Maximize , Close) Buttons back to the conventional place; top right corner of the screen ?I can't imagine why they have changed the place of this button from the conventional place.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that,in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat, the windows have their 3 buttons[maximize(a square),close(x) and minimize(-)] at the left(like in MacOS),while in earlier Ubuntu versions(for example,8.04 Hardy Heron),these buttons are at the right(like in the Windows operating system). Why did the developers of Ubuntu do this change?

I know it can be done, that is how it is in gnome with the Ambiance theme and such. I have already gotten all the other buttons on the left, but the chromium ones wont budge.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is how to get the Window Titlebar buttons in 10.04 back to where they belong:
*Install Ubuntu Tweak from [URL]
*Start the program from Programs/System tools
*Go to Desktop - Windows manager settings and switch it from Left to Right.
I upgraded to 10.04 but problems started very quickly: I can see my desktop but when I start an application, there are no window borders or buttons to close/minimize that application! They just vanished. Also, opened windows don't appear on the taskbar, so I can't switch between windows, not even with ALT + TAB. The mouse isn't an arrow anymore, but a dark cross :s
Some specifications: Dell vostro 1000, ATI Radeon IGP Xpress 1150 (128mb shared), AMD64 Turion Here is what I did during the upgrade: everything default, except for once, when it asked me what to do with menu.lst (keep the old one or replace it with the newer version) I chose "replace" (default was to keep the old one). Can that be the reason?
Is there a way to move openbox window buttons to the left (like in Lucid)?

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust recently,on occassion when I log in to my main user, I don't get the Title Bars, or windows minimize, maximize, close buttons.
I have tried changing theme
I have noticed that running the "compiz" command from the main manu will restore the title bars etc, and that my second user (created yesterday) does not have that problem.
How can I diagnose what is going wrong ?
when I boot up ubuntu, the suspend and hibernate buttons will be missing and the alsa stuff wont work. When I select shutdown or restart or log out from the power menu ( the one that's missing the 2
buttons) it only logs off the user. I've tried reinstalling the kernel and updating grub for a solution to no avail. The only way to shutdown the system when this occurs is through a sudo halt command in terminal. I may have to use the command a few times until the computer will boot with sound and all of the suspend/hibernate buttons in place.
Im running fedora 13 in my machine, where i installed mac4lin theme and after that all the window's close, maximize, minimize buttons changed their position from right hand corner to left end corner. I ve attached the snapshot a window. I cant restore it back.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have found a few topics that touch on the problem I'm having but the solution won't work for me.
I am running a 800x480 desktop with Gnome, many windows are cut off at the bottom and I cannot click on the buttons. The standard reply to this problem seems to be hold alt and left click drag the window up.
That works just fine, the twist here is I'm accessing the desktop through a touch-screen (via vnc on an android phone) and I don't have an alt button to hold, dragging is also kind of tough.. I realize it may just be the limitations of my device, but it can't hurt to ask!
After a week or so i noticed that the title bar (the one with the minimise and close buttons) is missing. After a little search i found that in terminal if i type metacity --replace it would come back. And that it did. However, everytime i reboot i need to do it again.Starting to get a little annoying now.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04 I lost my windows control buttons (minimize, maximize, close)
Code:
metacity --replace
Command works to restore my buttons but I've got a couple problems
1. I have to leave this terminal open permanently. If I try to close it (and "kill" the process) not only do I lose my windows controls but my keyboard stops working entirely.
2. Have to put this in every time I log back in.
Is there a better solution for restoring my windows control buttons (i.e., one that doesn't require me to open a terminal every time I log in?)
Had a power outage , when I restarted the pc the tool bar came up empty. No menu button or default icons. How can I repair this ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI realize that this may be a nit-picky complaint, but why did you guys move the window control buttons from the upper right corner to the upper left corner? View 2 Replies View RelatedToday upon booting my Xubuntu 9.04, I see that all new windows I open have their title bar missing and on top of my pannel menu. If I try to run windows manager from the menu, nothing shows up on the screen. Therefore I think my windows manager is not running at all. I have no graphic effects and dont want any. I noticed that nothing shows up on the task bar (bottom bar) when I have anything opened up in the desktop. Can't minimize, can't click close button, ...How do I fix this ? I followed a thread to install Compiz and emerald just so I could get it to work but I do not like this option. I do not want any special effects. The more effects/options I have the more possible problems I may get. By the way I also have this problem on my office Ubuntu 10.04. Both started having this problem recently. I suspect it is an update that was done that is causing this.
