May 3, 2011How do I move the Window control buttons when the window is in full screen mode? I.e.: I know how to go into gconf-editor:

(I've intentionally disabled the menu...)
What I want is my window controls to be on the right side of the window when the window is in full screen mode.
Also I've had an issue with the Unity dockbar glitching out. I can still click on the buttons (i.e. the logout button) but it displays like a nintendo game inserted crooked. Is there a way to 'restart' unity without log out/ log in?
Any one else experienced any glitches with unity auto hiding/showing?
Ubuntu Installation :: 10.1 On Dell D800 - All Icons And Buttons On Desktop And Taskbar Appear Fuzzy / Fragmented
Mar 1, 2011Am trying to run Ubuntu from the CD on a Dell Latitude D800 laptop that a friend gave me. A Suse Linux installation is currently on the laptop and appears to run OK and its desktop looks normal with normal buttons and icons.
The Ubuntu boot from the CD appears to run normally but all the icons and buttons on the desktop and the taskbar appear fuzzy/fragmented (that's the best way I can describe it). The menu texts appear normally. Otherwise the system seems to work normally. I can select menu items and they do what they should do, etc. I've tried fiddling with the screen resolution but that doesn't improve anything. I've tried the installation with 10.1 and 10.04LTE but the result is the same: fuzzy icons and buttons.
Ubuntu :: No Flashing Window On Taskbar?
Nov 14, 2010I am running a new install of 10.10 and have a problem with windows flashing when they need attention. For example a new IM message.
This happens with both aMSN and pidgin. So as far i am aware its not a problem specific to the application.
I'm using lib notify for now so I don't miss incoming messages all together.
Im running compiz with extra visual effects.

Oct 25, 2010I am having a problem with a particular application not showing in the GNOME taskbar in Ubuntu 10.10 x64.The application is Novell Groupwise, a Java-based e-mail client.It does, however show when I press ALT-TAB to bring up the window switcher. It also shows in "The GNOME Panel" (desktop switcher) when it is in the foreground.All other applications correctly display in the task bar (Window List)

Sep 19, 2010I turned on my computer today and logged in only to find discover that both toolbars on the top and bottom of my screen have disappeared.This is problematic as it has become impossible for me to connect to the internet without the wireless toolbar at the top of the screen, and as well I no longer have the ability to select different windows without alt+tabbing. I didn't modify my system in any way to the best of my knowledge, nor was I messing around with my desktop config. Luckily I can still access my applications (including the Terminal) by right clicking, but it's still a less than ideal setup.

Mar 21, 2011Lately I noticed that something seems to be blocking various audio controls - mixer mostly. I can't access mixer window from taskbar, my keyboard volume knob doesn't work, mute too. But - all the generated events are there, because when the problem goes away (usually in the range of 10-30 seconds), all the events that I generated (volume up/down, mute) are applied.
Straced kmix startup. And it looks like it was waitinf for some information from dbus - i see it sent and received some messages to fd=3 (which is earlier connected to /tmp/dbus-something), and then it waits 21 seconds!, and then it gets new message from dbus, message looks like:

It contains string "introspection" - no idea what it is about, but perhaps it could be related? I am very willing to do additional tests/straces/whatever to solve the problem,

Aug 1, 2010I have a desktop computer and a NAS, running Kubuntu & Ubuntu. I use WOL to wake the NAS and then mount the drives (NFS) on my desktop.
I've placed an icon on my KDE desktop which wakes the NAS and mounts the drives, this works great, but I've set it to run in terminal so I can enter the password for mounting the drives. This leaves me with an open window which I don't want to close because the NAS is set to shutdown 15 minutes after ssh logout.
My question is how can I minimize the open terminal window to an icon on my taskbar?

Feb 12, 2010I was looking for a duplicate file-finder that will allow me to delete the duplicate files directly from the program. After seeing several recommendations in this forum I installed Fslint from the repositories. It easily found the duplicate files that I needed to remove. The problem is, if I select a duplicate file and if I click on Delete at the bottom of the Fslint window, nothing happens. The duplicate files that I selected are not deleted.
I thought there might be something wrong with the repository version, so I downloaded the latest version of Fslint (v. 2.40-1), and I have the exact same problem. Fslint will not delete any files. Maybe Fslint is being interfered with by some other program. I am using Ubuntu 9.04.
