View 9 RepliesFor testing purposes, I'd like to disable windows decoration on my desktop. However, I don't know how to do such a thing, I can't find a parameter for gtk-window-decorator nor emerald that can disable them. I have also tried disabling window decoration in compiz settings but after disabling the check mark for windows decoration it is automatically marked again after a couple of seconds
View 2 Replies View RelatedGave unity a try, did not like it, switched to classic. I had pretty much figured out eye candy in previous versions, but I can't change the window border in 11.04. If I enable emerald as the window decorator under compiz settings, I get a blank window border, regardless of which emerald theme I select. If I click the default under compiz settings and use compiz-decorator, I also get a blank window border. If I use gtk-window-decorator, I then have a proper window border, but I have no way to change it. With it, I can use appearance preferences and change themes, colors, icons, etc., but selecting different window borders under customize has no effect at all. I don't like the window border I'm stuck with, anybody know how to switch these in 11.04?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIn the Emerald Themer, I'm able to apply a theme, but only the title bar changes. The rest of the window remains the theme the themes of 'right click > Change Desktop Background > Theme Tab'. (Yes, I have tried the emerald --replace thing)In short, the theme of the window is kinda half-and-half between Emerald and GTK. Screens attached.(Screen shot 1 is illustrating a emerald theme, with matching gtk theme, screen 2 is showing the same emerald theme, but this time with a different GTK theme. Also, ignore the odd look of the images, it's a twinview setup with screen one zoomed in)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI really a newbie to xfce. I was using gnome 2 orignally then since I'm using Arch Linux (64-bit), it was updated to Gnome 3. After long weeks of daily use, I didn't like gnome 3. Now, I decided to use xfce. I did a fresh install (after formatting my hdd) of Arch, I put installed XFCE + SLIM login manager. Almost all works fine until I decided to install Compiz. After installing Compiz, for some reason gtk-window-decorator --replace (the one that you put under CCSM > Window Decoration > Command) does not work. Only "emerald --replace" and "kde4-window-decorator --replace" works. Unfortunately, I don't like emerald. When I run gtk-window-decorator --replace in the terminal it gives me this error:
Code:
gtk-window-decorator: error while loading shared libraries: libmetacity-private.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I made sure I installed the complete compiz+gtk package from pacman. BTW, I never had a problem with gnome 2 + compiz + gtk-window-decorator. I don't know if I have to do something extra in xfce to make gtk-window-decorator work.
EDIT: FYI, I use fusion-icon as an autostart application for me to automatically start compiz during startup.
I was using the open source ATI drivers and KDE's compositing worked, so I hadn't installed compiz. I wanted to try fglrx because I thought a) I might be able to get temperature readings, and b) it might stop Kubuntu from making my computer incredibly hot (in Windows 7 it stays cool). So I installed fglrx by enabling it in the restricted hardware drivers thing, and things worked, but compositing was disabled and no matter what I did I couldn't enable it. So I installed compiz. When I run compiz, I get the following output:
Code:
toby@tensile:~$ compiz --replace
Starting kde4-window-decorator
[code]...
I just finished my fresh re-installation of Ubuntu 10.10, and all is great... no more oblem. Except~ A little while ago, I opened up configuration editor, and set the windows buttons to the left side, and set it as "mandatory". However,I changed themes quick, and then changed back, and the buttons had moved over to the right side. See image> Screenshot.pngSo, I need them back on the left, But now , whenever I try to change/edit the 'key'... I get this error message~Screenshot-1.png gahh!
View 8 Replies View RelatedHow do I move the Window control buttons when the window is in full screen mode? I.e.: I know how to go into gconf-editor:
Code:
gconf-editor --> apps --> metacity --> general --> button layout = ":minimize,maximize,close"
(I've intentionally disabled the menu...)
What I want is my window controls to be on the right side of the window when the window is in full screen mode.
Also I've had an issue with the Unity dockbar glitching out. I can still click on the buttons (i.e. the logout button) but it displays like a nintendo game inserted crooked. Is there a way to 'restart' unity without log out/ log in?
Any one else experienced any glitches with unity auto hiding/showing?
How to move the Windows control button ( Minimize, Maximize , Close) Buttons back to the conventional place; top right corner of the screen ?I can't imagine why they have changed the place of this button from the conventional place.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that,in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat, the windows have their 3 buttons[maximize(a square),close(x) and minimize(-)] at the left(like in MacOS),while in earlier Ubuntu versions(for example,8.04 Hardy Heron),these buttons are at the right(like in the Windows operating system). Why did the developers of Ubuntu do this change?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI can put them on the right using gconf-editor. But every time I change theme, it goes back to the left. It's annoying. Is there a way to fix them permanently to the right?

screen0 is fine, screen1 has no window buttons so once a window is open, I can't close it, cant move them, cant do a lot with them
close buttons on the left with xfce4? I do not want to use the system boarders, I want to use the compact mode, that is the point of using chrome. I know it can be done, that is how it is in gnome with the Ambiance theme and such. I have already gotten all the other buttons on the left, but the chromium ones wont budge.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is how to get the Window Titlebar buttons in 10.04 back to where they belong:
*Install Ubuntu Tweak from [URL]
*Start the program from Programs/System tools
*Go to Desktop - Windows manager settings and switch it from Left to Right.
I upgraded to 10.04 but problems started very quickly: I can see my desktop but when I start an application, there are no window borders or buttons to close/minimize that application! They just vanished. Also, opened windows don't appear on the taskbar, so I can't switch between windows, not even with ALT + TAB. The mouse isn't an arrow anymore, but a dark cross :s
Some specifications: Dell vostro 1000, ATI Radeon IGP Xpress 1150 (128mb shared), AMD64 Turion Here is what I did during the upgrade: everything default, except for once, when it asked me what to do with menu.lst (keep the old one or replace it with the newer version) I chose "replace" (default was to keep the old one). Can that be the reason?

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust recently,on occassion when I log in to my main user, I don't get the Title Bars, or windows minimize, maximize, close buttons.
I have tried changing theme
I have noticed that running the "compiz" command from the main manu will restore the title bars etc, and that my second user (created yesterday) does not have that problem.
How can I diagnose what is going wrong ?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have found a few topics that touch on the problem I'm having but the solution won't work for me.
I am running a 800x480 desktop with Gnome, many windows are cut off at the bottom and I cannot click on the buttons. The standard reply to this problem seems to be hold alt and left click drag the window up.
That works just fine, the twist here is I'm accessing the desktop through a touch-screen (via vnc on an android phone) and I don't have an alt button to hold, dragging is also kind of tough.. I realize it may just be the limitations of my device, but it can't hurt to ask!
As title states, they are missing, and from every window. I have googled this and found fixes but in doing some of the "fixes" the bar at the top of the screen disappears and docky becomes effectless.
