Ubuntu :: 10.04 Upgrade - Missing Windows Control Buttons?

May 2, 2010

After upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04 I lost my windows control buttons (minimize, maximize, close)
Code:
metacity --replace

Command works to restore my buttons but I've got a couple problems
1. I have to leave this terminal open permanently. If I try to close it (and "kill" the process) not only do I lose my windows controls but my keyboard stops working entirely.
2. Have to put this in every time I log back in.

Is there a better solution for restoring my windows control buttons (i.e., one that doesn't require me to open a terminal every time I log in?)

Ubuntu :: Emerald Theme - Some Windows Missing Min/max/close Buttons

Sep 18, 2010

I've been using 10.04 for a few months here and installed the truglass 0.5 theme for quite some time. I've been putting up with one downfall of it, which is on certain windows the min/max/close buttons do not show. I can hover over where they should be to actually use them, but they are not visible on all windows. They always come up with firefox, unless I hit a pop-up and a new window comes up. Any nautilus window doesn't have them unless focus on that window is lost. Any ideas on how I can solve this? See attached screenshot.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how did you resolve it? Do I need to log an issue for this. If so what info about my system do i need to supply?

Ubuntu :: After Upgrade Missing Top Of Application Windows?

Aug 18, 2011

I am having problems with the display of all application windows after upgrading to 11.04.The problem is present in both Unity and 'Classic'The top of application windows appear behind what used to be called the launcher (ie. the panel at the very top of the screen).Application windows can not be resized to fill the full screen either - so I have about 3cm of space at the bottom of the screen that application windows' can't go into and about 12cm on the right of the screen too. 3 example screen shots (in classic mode) attached .My system is:Release 11.04 (2.6.38-10-generic onx86_64)Nvidia Graphics card GeForce 9400 GTAm using CompizConfig (CompizConfig Settings Manager 0.9.4)Screen resolution is 1440 x 900

Software :: Remote Control Buttons Give A Signal, But Still Can't Figure?

Jun 28, 2010

I'm using Debian Squeeze and my 0-9 remote control buttons and power off button work even if I've didn't installed lirc. In a Gnome desktop I could set up the volume too, but now as I'm using Fluxbox I can't start the volume control applet anymore (by the way does somebody knows any handy volume applet for Fluxbox ?)So my question is that if some button of my remote control already work without lirc, then there must by some drivers installed, when I've upgraded to a newer kernel, but I can't figure out what makes my remote control to work. Does anybody knows something about this and if there's something already installed for IR devices in newer kernels how can it be further configured ?If i type the command "cat /dev/input/event6" in my terminal I can see that all my remote control buttons give a signal, but still I can't figure it out how can I set up all of them.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Missing Power Management Buttons?

Jul 6, 2010

when I boot up ubuntu, the suspend and hibernate buttons will be missing and the alsa stuff wont work. When I select shutdown or restart or log out from the power menu ( the one that's missing the 2
buttons) it only logs off the user. I've tried reinstalling the kernel and updating grub for a solution to no avail. The only way to shutdown the system when this occurs is through a sudo halt command in terminal. I may have to use the command a few times until the computer will boot with sound and all of the suspend/hibernate buttons in place.

Software :: Toolbar Buttons Missing (but Fixed) In Openoffice?

Aug 16, 2010

In Slackware 13.1, my OpenOffice menu buttons did not appear after installing the Slackbuild from slackbuild.org. I think this is a common issue. After reading around, I putCode:export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=kdeinto my /etc/profile. OpenOffice now opens fine and all the menu button icons are present and correct but this only happens if I start OO from the CLI. This is fine for me but other users of this system will use the kicker menu. The problem is that this starts OpenOffice with no toolbar buttons.Code:exportOOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=kdeto my menu buttons

Ubuntu :: Move The Window Control Buttons When The Window Is In Full Screen Mode?

May 3, 2011

How do I move the Window control buttons when the window is in full screen mode? I.e.: I know how to go into gconf-editor:

Code:
gconf-editor --> apps --> metacity --> general --> button layout = ":minimize,maximize,close"
(I've intentionally disabled the menu...)

What I want is my window controls to be on the right side of the window when the window is in full screen mode.

Also I've had an issue with the Unity dockbar glitching out. I can still click on the buttons (i.e. the logout button) but it displays like a nintendo game inserted crooked. Is there a way to 'restart' unity without log out/ log in?

Any one else experienced any glitches with unity auto hiding/showing?

Fedora :: Volume Control Buttons Not Working In Fedora 11

Aug 23, 2009

After running my computer for a while, my volume control always messes up. I wonder if it is some app. Mute, raise, lower volume all fail, and so does the little volume icon in my notification area. When the computer boots up things are fine. I can do some more testing later to try and pinpoint the source but I need to wait a few hours for a download to finish. I can still use Advanced Volume Control and all the options there work.

Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrade 9.10 To 10.04 - No Window Borders - No Buttons

May 3, 2010

I upgraded to 10.04 but problems started very quickly: I can see my desktop but when I start an application, there are no window borders or buttons to close/minimize that application! They just vanished. Also, opened windows don't appear on the taskbar, so I can't switch between windows, not even with ALT + TAB. The mouse isn't an arrow anymore, but a dark cross :s

Some specifications: Dell vostro 1000, ATI Radeon IGP Xpress 1150 (128mb shared), AMD64 Turion Here is what I did during the upgrade: everything default, except for once, when it asked me what to do with menu.lst (keep the old one or replace it with the newer version) I chose "replace" (default was to keep the old one). Can that be the reason?

Ubuntu :: Volume Control Missing - Kernel Patch

Jun 4, 2010

I did the latest patch/update to lucid this morning and it would appear that my Volume control has gone missing from the task bar. There doesn't seem to be a volume control in Applications > Sounds & Video either. I am sure this has to do with the patch upgrade that I installed as everything was working fine before. For that matter, I had no system sounds either and it took a power off reboot for that to come back. My Music program (atunes) is not working properly either and keeps locking up. How do I reverse this patch or get my system back to a functional state?
