Getting extremely frustrated. Downloaded MiniTube from Ubuntu Software Center and it doesn't work. Every attempt to view a video is met with "Fatal error: cannot open media source" What gives?

I thought adding a PPA would let me upgrade from version 0.9 to the latest version but it didn't seem to work. So now I'm trying to install from source (I've never done this before so I'm a complete noob when it comes to compiling). I checked the install instructions in the source which reads:

Compiling on Linux is fairly easy. Just run:
qmake
and then
make
Beware of the Qt3 version of qmake! If things go wrong try running qmake-qt4 instead.

I installed the prerequisite packages,but just to be safe I wanted to run the ./configure command, but when I try to I get the "bash: ./configure: No such file or directory" message. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Also, based on what I've read, I should have to enter some kind of install command in order to install the compiled binary but the instructions make no mention of this.

It doesn't seem to matter what repository I use or what particular package that I attempt to upgrade (all or just a single package). (In particular, apache2-doc is not even a package being upgraded, although it is installed on the system.) I have rebooted, run apt-get clean, run apt-get check, etc. to no avail. I am running a standard Debian (5.0.2/Lenny) desktop PC and am not running any NFS processes, client or server.
Recently I have downloaded TBB and I want to run a program using its libraries. But I encountered the following error: Linker: fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'tbb_debug.lib'

Being linux, one should in principle get the source codes for everything that has been precompiled (except the proprietary drivers such as nvidia) in the installation DVDs/CDs. Where are the source codes ? Is there a place I can download them ?
To avoid confusion, I am not referring to the kernel source that can be compiled to give a linux kernel, but that does not include the drivers, such as intel_drv.so.
To be more specific, the intel graphic i810 driver has been built into any linux system, but where is the exact source? One answer may be that primary source intellinuxgraphics.com. However, if anyone tries to download the every changing (i.e., keep updated almost every single day) driver source codes from freedesktop.org, it is almost certain that the source codes will not be the same as the one that is finalized in Fedora 10.

I run modprobe kvm and modprobe kvm-intel to load the modules, but the second command won't work.

I found on the internet a firmware for my USB HDTV DVB-T stick named "dvb-usb-af9015.fw" and copied it into /lib/firmware/ but I have not seen any difference with that.
I'm trying to install 11.3. The iso install DVD boots up ok, says 'welcome' in far more languages than I understand, I select English & US English then all useful progress stops. It suddenly can't detect my CD/DVD (although it DID when the system booted with the CD/DVD drive selected as 1st device to try to boot). I've tried pushing the button to eject and reload the DVD, no dice. Nothing seems to work, when I finally go for shutdown it suggests I might need to load a driver. My drive is a fairly new plextor px-b940sa.
Searching the plextor corp site for linux turns up zilch as does the knowledge base at novell.com. it's all in knowing the right magics words i suppose. my chip is the intel 6 core. my mobo is asus p6x58d (actually im wondering if it's the culprit because it does some fancy tricks). i tried my store-bought 11.1 suse install disk, it has the same difficulty. i suppose a usb-linked external dvd drive might be the obvious solution (won't cost too much but fairly likely to have some problem).
Tried updating today from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10. Seemed to go ok, but on reboot I got the message

Xorg seems to crash randomly and with no real reason. Once it does, I can't restart it. If I try to restart it with GDM, nothing will happen. However once it crashes, Ubuntu's low graphics mode window pops up. Telling it to reconfigure the xorg config seems to do nothing for my problem. I will still crash after words.
Right now I'm running in an earlier kernel, hoping this will keep it from crasgubg

I have a virtual machine (VirtualBox) with Ubuntu 9.10 installed, I'm trying to install MySql community editor using the linux-generic package (the tar package), I followed all the procedure but I had a problem with the next line of code:

I don't understand a lot about the command line, but I think this line of code is used to create the basic tables of the database (users and so on). the problem I got with this line of code is:
FATAL ERROR: Could not find mysqld
I googled it and after a while I found this blog:

The blog says that the problem is a default instalation of SQL, and the solution is replace the file my.cnf in the location /etc/mysql for other file that comes with the package.
I didn't replace the file my.cnf, I only changed the name and it woked perfectly, and this is the problem, I don't understand why it worked.

for some reason my first updating was interrupted and from then i cannot update. i get the following message:

when I try to open Banshee I get an error message telling me that the disk is malformed and then Banshee closes itself (faster than I can copy and paste the exact error). I did some searching and apparently it's caused by the configuration file, but I did a complete removal of Banshee from the package manager, restarted the computer, and re-installed Banshee, but it's still giving me the error.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble installing the 10.04 RC On my desktop the installer just crashes with a fatal error, before you get to the first screen of the installation process, where you choose to run as live cd or install. On my Laptop i am trying to Install alongside my current 9.10 installation and i keep getting the errors illustrated in the screenies. It is all probably down to my stupidity, but if it is not then this is very worrying 1less than a week before release.
View 8 Replies View RelatedThis box is running 10.04 server, it's been running perfectly for almost 6 weeks. It's only function in life is running MailArchiva which is an ediscovery package, runs very well. Anyhow, yesterday the boss tells me he wants to do something else so the last thing I did was an apt-get update and an apt-get upgrade, no errors were observed, I seem to remember like 8 updates were available, this is what I've normally done in the past to keep it current. The last thing I did after that was shutdown -r now.
This morning I can't get into the box, I reconnected a monitor to it and this is the error I'm getting when it stops after about 9 lines into the boot process;
modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting padlock_sha (/lib/modules/2.6.32-24-server/kernel/drivers/crypto/padlock-sha.ko): No such device.
This is a mystery to me, the system is not encrypted. The only stuff that is belongs to MailArchiva. Anyhow someone evidently made off with my install cd so I am downloading another to see if I can repair this but I have no idea what broke.
I upgraded Ubuntu from version 10.04 to 10.10. When the upgrade completed I was asked to reboot. After reboot I simply got the message "error: file not found" on the screen. After a few seconds the machine rebooted.
I guess it is the boot loader that was not found. Is there some hope of fixing this problem?
I just installed Maverick on a brand new system last Saturday. Everything worked, except dual monitors, so I activated the proprietary ATI/AMD driver. That allowed the dual monitors to work, except that it put a little "AMD unsupported hardware" watermark in the lower right-hand side of each screen. After a day or two, I decided to go back to the default driver while trying to figure out how to avoid the watermark.
I assumed that when I deactivated/removed the proprietary driver that it would automatically switch back to the default. Instead, my computer now boots to TTY1, and when I try to install xserver.xorg, etc., I get a lot of error messages,ike "No screens found" or "Screens found, but configuration is unusable," etc. The same messages show up in the logs.Can anyone help me get back to a useable desktop display? At this point, I don't care which one. erhaps the proprietary would be easiest since it seems to be holding my system hostage, but either one would work.
Ubuntu 10.10 Whenever I try to boot up now I get a command line environment instead of the normal gnome desktop. The first error message that comes up is: "Screens found,but none have a usable configuration" further down: "Fatal server error: no screens found" Any way I can re-configure so it detects my monitor?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using with success NX server and client on Ubuntu 11.04 on both side. Yesterday the server crashed and now the client can't connect to it. The client works well because if I try to connect to an other server it works well and if I try to connect to this server with an other user it works well. So I think that there is a problem with my user. I have tried to solve the problem as explained in the details of the error. Unfortunately there is no file /var/log/messages so I can't search the code of the exception.
