I compiled and installed a new visual traceroute program on my laptop running Slackware 12.1, the program is called GTrace. After an initial ./configure attempt, the program said that I had to install the JDK package. I installed <jdk-6u11-i586-1.tgz> and reconfigured, then make and make install, (I also added a required BerkleyDB <db-2.7.7.tar.gz> file to the install directory, as per the webpage instructions). Now when I try to run the program, it attempts to start ( a window appears onscreen and then just stops and sits there). I then ran the program in the command line and this is the output:

I searched google for this error and found one user that had a similar output in another program, but after reading the other forum, I have no idea what they were talking about or how to fix this up. How I may overcome this JDK error to be able to run the visual traceroute program.

I am planning to install any Open-Source ( LINUX ) web browser having all dependencies/plugin-ins on one single location [DIR] and share it over NFS to all other users; So all users can run the executable to start browsing local files (Flash Tutorials) without the need of installing a web browser on every single workstation. In my case I am using Red Hat Linux 4 update 7 WS all over my work place.

I installed "AMD/ATI Open Source Drivers" according to: "[URL] ....":
Reboot after "apt-get install firmware-linux-nonfree", the system automaticly reboot after grub, then went black screen forever (no tty1,tty2.., seems cannot booting). I reinstalled serveral times but same problem (having tried both cd/live dvd, debian8.1/8.2).
It seems that "firmware-linux-nonfree" is the cause, since debian crashed once firmware-linux-nonfree installed.
The problem went away by installing ATIProprietary driver("[URL] ....").
For example, I want to install a texteditor called Editra, i done it like the following
First, I install the Editra sudo apt-get install Editra - success ,its version is 0.5.30
Second, I run it in Terminal Editra - it can work,but with the error infos "(python:1682): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_add_accelerator: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed"
Third, I used command line "dpkg -L Editra", and found that the Editra is installed under /usr/share/pyshared/Editra,so i created the .desktop like this sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/Editra.desktop
It showed, and I clicked it for running, but it told me error infos Could not launch 'Editra' Failed to execute child process "/usr/share/pyshared/Editra" (Permission denied) Not just Editra, so many software that written in python have the same question, such as tortoisehg...
I have corrupted or added an invalid sintax in somewhere. Therefore, the OS is not able to install packages. Can you instruct on how to fix this issue. So far, I was trying to install gnokii and after that my OS cannot install software or package updates.I am lost and I worried I have to install again the OS.
I've been using cyrus and sendmail together for a very very long time now. Just recently I upgraded to fedora 13 and now my virtual users can not send email from the /etc/sasldb2 passwords. I get in the /var/log/messages sendmail[31427]: unable to open Berkeley db /etc/sasldb2: Unknown error: Its weird that they can still log in and get email from imapd.conf
I even tried re-creating sasldb2 and sasldblistusers2 shows my two users 'one' that is also a local user account and the saslauthd authenticates when sending emails, but the virtual user 'two' can't send just only can log in to receive. /etc/sysconfig/saslauthd is set up as mech=pam. but I don't see how that would be relevant to this issue.
I tried posting this before and I'm not sure what happened but I don't think it worked, so if it did please forgive the double post.am very very new to centOS and linux in general. I just want to setup a test web server that more closely mirrors our actual web server that is hosted by rackspace. I've installed centOS and tried to setup Apache, PHP and MySQL from a guide on the web using Yum. When I go to localhost in the web browser I'm able to see the default apache page. However when I create a php page it's just blank.When I look at the apache error logs I get this: PHP Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: Permission denied in Unknown on line 0
I've been searching alot on the internet and I know the issue is permission related, but I don't know how to fix it. I've seen some forum posts that say you need to use the chmod 775 command on the /var/www/html folder.Currently when I do ls -l /var/www/html it returns

I've been having issues with the omega.cert on Pidgin and tried to upgrade to 2.7.7 today. I clicked on the link from the Pidgin site to download the ppa package "pidgin-ppa_0.0.3_all.deb" and tried to open with GDebi Package Installer but it tells me it couldn't be opened because an unknown error occurred.
Getting extremely frustrated. Downloaded MiniTube from Ubuntu Software Center and it doesn't work. Every attempt to view a video is met with "Fatal error: cannot open media source" What gives?
i was not able to install alsa...showing the error checking for directory with kernel source... Please install the package with full kernel sources for your distribution or use --with-kernel=dir option to specify another directory with kernel sources (default is /lib/modules/2.6.18-194.el5xen/source). my friends installed the alsa for cent os 5.4...how to rectify this...
I'm having trouble installing visual python, I've downloaded the source package from [URL] as I couldn't find it on yast. On calling ./configure most tests are passed but I get an error which says I need gtkglextmm 1.2 checking in Yast I see this is already installed. Looking in the install.txt it talks about this error and suggests renaming some files, I'm not keen to do this for fear of breaking something else but as it turns out they are already named what they need to be anyway.? Now I'm truly stumped.
I am trying to compile C source file to generate .trb file (turbo file) which will then burn on trubo sim using TP2. When I comiple the code following error is occuring. before going through belwo error I was getting error 'Unknown MCU atmega128', known MCU are: (list appread), then I change the configuration and set the MCU to supported list then following error is occuring.
Is there any open source virtual machine so i can study the source in order to create my own? i'm gonna write my own, so it doesNT matter if license does not allow further development of the code.
We all know we can install a linux system such as Fedora 10 and use it. Being linux, one should in principle get the source codes for everything that has been precompiled (except the proprietary drivers such as nvidia) in the installation DVDs/CDs. Where are the source codes ? Is there a place I can download them ? To avoid confusion, I am not referring to the kernel source that can be compiled to give a linux kernel, but that does not include the drivers, such as intel_drv.so.
To be more specific, the intel graphic i810 driver has been built into any linux system, but where is the exact source? One answer may be that primary source intellinuxgraphics.com. However, if anyone tries to download the every changing (i.e., keep updated almost every single day) driver source codes from freedesktop.org, it is almost certain that the source codes will not be the same as the one that is finalized in Fedora 10.
Im actively studying for my Redhat SA Certification. I am actively working in a UNIX based environment (SCO< So ancient). I need some open source contribution experience. I've been doing Perl for about 5 years and I have enough linux knowledge to make an impact.........
I have a problem and I havent got a clue what the cause is. Since last week, I have noticed that my TWO computers (running opensuse 11.1) have problems dealing with some websites:
1) My bank virtual office: [URL]...No matter which user/pass i put, i get a "a problem has ocurred" screen. It happens under firefox and opera. Konqueror in KDE3/4 does not even show the login box!? Try 12345678 for user and 1234 for password if you want.
2) Rumbo travel: I can search flights but if I click to start the booking process it says "YOUR BROWSER has detected an error" and goes back to front page. Same thing happens with firefox and opera, NOT with Konqueror. Both messages are generated by the remote servers (not by my browsers).
Some facts to take into account:
1) It has been happening for about one week or two 2) This problems happen exactly the same way on two computers running opensuse 11.1. The only big difference among them is the kernel (2.6.33 and 2.6.27 for the other) 3) Problems affect Opera and Firefox. Konqueror acts weird on the Bank site. 4) Problems DO NOT exist in other computers running windows or linux. Its not a problem on the websites. And they used to work well.
5) Problems persist in my computers, when connecting through different networks (university, home...), by wifi or ethernet. Other boxes do not suffer them in the same environments.
6) Yes, i have cleaned up cookies, browsers cach etc... 7) I have downgraded firefox and opera, and problems persist still. 8) I have turned off SuSEfirewall and with no luck. 9) There are no relevant messages in any logs or browser console (just some warnings about "rejected declarations" etc. but no difference of what i have seen on other boxes that actually work)
The only thing i can think that is common layer on both sites is SSL encrypted connection and javascript, and im not sure Opera and Firefox share any of that, and the problem is still there!.
I think that here was a misunderstanding between the copyright and the license. In short, only my opinion ( I am not a lawyer), it is not illegal to post links to copyrighted material (as long as the license allows it). If it would be, I had to remove the links in my sig to Slackware, XFCE and zsh. All that software is copyrighted. I can post links to that because the license allows me to spread that software. Even GPL licensed software is copyrighted. But I think that as long as the license is not clear, links to copyrighted software should not be posted at LQ.
