Fedora :: Error While Fetching Email. Evolution Version: Evolution 2.28.0

Apr 5, 2010

I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Evolution version: Evolution 2.28.0. OS version: Linux xxx2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686.PAE #1 SMP Wed Mar 3 04:57:21 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I'm sure my network is fine, I use pop3 to receive email.

nslookup result:

OpenSUSE :: Version Of Evolution - Running The Evolution Mail System Under Fedora - 15 / KDE

Jul 26, 2011

I've been running the Evolution mail system under Fedora-15/KDE for about a month now, and it has some very serious problems. I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.

It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution

Ubuntu :: Set Up Evolution Mail - "error Fetching Messages"

May 2, 2010

Everything seems to be set up right, I can send mail and everything, but... When it comes to retrieving my mail, it fetched everything from up to about a week and a half ago, and then stopped while displaying "error fetching messages." I don't understand this... Obviously, this means that I won't be able to receive any new messages, which is pretty critical for a mail client. So what's the beef? The last email it will show me is an email from April 22nd. I use Yahoo and have an @sbcglobal address. pop.att.yahoo.com is input for receiving, and smtp.att.yahoo.com is input for sending. I can't seem to find anything that has been input wrong, so... IDK, I'm at a loss for an explanation for this.

Ubuntu :: Evolution Double Fetching Mail - Locks Up?

Jun 14, 2010

Within the last few days, Evolution barely opens, and every message has a duplicate message. The duplicate shows as unread, whether I read the original message or not. All duplicates occur only for messages received prior to Wednesday late PM (about four days ago). My in-box was already large, and the program now takes forever to open. In its attempt to get all the messages, it shows:

Fetching mail (...)
Generating message list (...)
Storing folder (...)

I've watched the system monitor, and I'm open to suggestions if looking for something specific could help. When I first attempt to open the program, it grabs a substantial portion of the CPU as status "running" or "uninterruptible." If I let it grind away for a while (15 or more minutes), the program opens, and has the double entries and continues to labor to get the new e-mail. In the most recent try, the program opens, and eventually is able to get mail.

This recent problem MIGHT be related to traveling, when I switched to working off-line for a while, and was usually hibernating the machine in between uses, rather than shutting down. Also, I resorted to checking mail via a web mail program at one point.

Could I have hit the wrong option about synchronizing folders? Default is "do not synchronize." When off-line, I only want to read and answer messages from the inbox, and have them sent from the outbox when I again have access. What is the proper way to do this? I don't have any messages in folders except a few draft e-mails.

I'm running Evolution 2.26 on Jaunty. What did I do wrong, and how do I fix it! PS: Is there a more specific forum for Evolution?

Fedora :: F15 - Evolution Email Won't Start?

Jul 19, 2011

I set up a new machine w/ f15 this past weekend. Everything seems to work fine except Evolution. The first time I ran Evolution I restored my Evolution v2.3 (mbox) files that I had backed up from F13. I did this from the setup wizard so I actually never "opened" Evolution. The conversion to maildir appeared to go OK, and I can see the files in /home/oldan/.local/share/evolution/mail/local/cur. Each file (there are 17,000+) can be opened, so the data conversion is intact.

However, I am unable to open the application at all. In the GUI (KDE) I get a spinning icon that goes away in about 30 sec. From a command prompt as a regular user I get:[oldan@Fedora15-001 Documents]$ evolution (evolution:4822): Unique-GDBus-WARNING **: Error while sending message: Timeout was reached

As root I get[root@Fedora15-001 Documents]# evolution No protocol specified Cannot open display: Any one have a clue as to what might be happening?

Fedora :: F10 - Evolution Stopped Sending Email To Exchange Server

Jan 7, 2009

I am working happily with Fedora 8, evolution chatting happily to exchange 2003, calendar sync the works...impressed. This continued through Fedora 9 (though a little bumpy as all odd numbered Fedora releases are). On to Fedora 10, yes works a treat out of the box (DVD). A couple of updates to evolution later, through yumex (fedora updates), and evolution has stopped sending email to the exchange server. It's also touch and go whether I can read email using OWA.

On pressing 'Send/Receive' evolution pops the error,
Error while performing operation.
Exchange transport can only be used with Exchange mail source.
How could I back out these evolution updates?

Ubuntu :: Evolution Email - Intersperse Replies Into Quoted Email?

Apr 24, 2010

I use 'quoted' style for reply emails. I want to be able to intersperse my replies within a quoted reply i.e. if the email had three paragraphs, I'd like to be able to have my replies between each of the paragraphs. At the moment, I don't seem to be able to do anything other than delete from the quoted section - I try to simulate my requirements by cutting and then 'paste quotation', but this doesn't always work as sometimes Evolution adds too many levels of '> ' .

Ubuntu :: Evolution - Constantly "fetching Mail" At 0%

Nov 23, 2010

I'm using evolution for a few POP-email-accounts, and most things work fine (sending and receiving email, sorting into folders etc).

However, evolution permanently displays a row reading "fetching mail" at the bottom of the window, most times the row is splitted into two or three "fetching mail" - probably representing activity for seperate email accounts though it never tells which one is which.

Strange enough this "fetching" hardly ever stops, evolution remains "fetching" for hours(!) at "0% complete", even when all new mails (usually just a hand full per day) already have been downloaded and displayed.

For several reasons I leave all my mail on the server as well, this means there are lots of mail on the server which I downloaded, read and deleted (locally!) in evolution.

I GUESS that evolution keeps checking and downloading old mails left on the server just to dispose them instantly again when the program discovers that these mails already have been read and deleted locally. Is that possible? Any other explanation?

The problem is that I'm paying for internet by "megabyte" (no flat-rate), and apparently evolution DOES download lots of data that I never get to see, i.e. without any use but at a cost.....

Is there any option in evolution to make it just check and download the latest, never before downloaded mails, and then stop "fetching"?

Is there any option in evolution to check on account at a time? (clicking "send/receive" button makes evolution check all accounts as far as I understand).

Is there a possibility to just send mails in the outbox, without, at the same time, checking mail (I only have the combined "send/receive" button.

It will save them but I cannot secure the one with ssh and there is no where in the wizard to store you password. In turn i cannot get my email thru evolution. And the send/recieve button is not highlighted at all. I dumped evolution and then reloaded it but still have the same issue.

Ubuntu :: Evolution Not Displaying All Of Email?

Jun 18, 2010

I get a lot of email from different yahoogroups, but am having a bit of trouble in one group.

Every so often I'll get a message that is written in rich text and sent from the group's web post feature, but only half of it is displayed. If I check the message source the entire message is there, and if I change Evolutions settings to plain instead of HTML then the entire message is there.

The weird thing is it only seems to be the messages from one particular poster that is being cut off.

It'd be nice if I could stick with HTML and Evolution.

Ubuntu :: Why Use Email Accounts Evolution

Oct 27, 2010

All my email accounts are internet based. I have quite a few:

2 Gmail accounts - my main one and a more formal one for job searches and resume stuff.
1 Yahoo account for everything else so most spam will go there.
1 University account that I have to use while taking a masters degree program
1 AOL account - a holdout from a long time ago that I hardly ever check.

What would be my reason for using a computer based email system like Evolution or Thunderbird? Could I combine all this accounts to one place? Would I want to? I don't have a job right now so I don't have a work email. I thought it would me nice if I could somehow go to one place to see all these email accounts. I will check it out on my own but I thought I would ask the forum for some wisdom.
