Ubuntu :: LibreOffice/Openoffice Vertical Printing Offset By ~2cm?
Apr 9, 2011
I am using LibreOffice 3.3.2 Final on a 10.10 Ubuntu Laptop.Everything I print from LibreOffice and Openoffice is printed ~2 cm too high. Printing from other programs as Document Viewer and GIMP is just fine. It's not a settings problem, Ive checked everything hundred times. I am printing on HP Deskjet connected to a wireless router with CUPS 1.4.4 Driver.

I noticed there were updates for everything related to OpenOffice today which reminded me, now that LibreOffice is the default, why keep OpenOffice?I removed OpenOffice and all its components.LibreOffice still runs unaffected, but now autoremove wants to uninstall LibreOffice as well.Is OpenOffice a dependency of LibreOffice? Should I reinstall OpenOffice?

I installed Libreoffice on my Ubuntu 10.10 (through wubi), and uninstalled Openoffice afterwards. Everything's ok. But then I continue to receive updates for openoffice modules (which are a lot btw). From the Software Center, currently installed are libreoffice modules together with (I think) their openoffice counterparts. Now the question is, is it safe to remove the openoffice modules? Or does Libreoffice need them, too? How do I remove them completely from the updates?

I wanted to try LibreOffice out. I found a PPA for it, so I added the source, tried it out, didn't like it, and noticed that openoffice now won't work. Which isn't too big of a deal, but now I can't even get the software center to install it. It gives me some error that you can read in the screenshot. What can I do?

Has anyone tested the compatibility of LibreOffice with OpenOffice by reworking (using LibreOffice) a complicated document originally written in OpenOffice? Are there any problems switching from one to the other while working on a given project?

Whenever I want to print from Libre Office, it's default printer options are somehow set to duplex long edge (standard) and the print quality is set to economy. I want this changed to Duplex Off and print quality set to standard. I've tried setting Libre Office's printer settings (File > Printer Settings) and when that failed, I went to File > Templates > Organize > Commands button and selected Printer Settings and changed them from there. None of these worked.
Whenever I open a document, the print quality is always set to economy and duplex is on (even when it is not needed). I have to keep changing it each time I print a document. I allow my children to use this computer for homework at times and I don't want them to have to mess with the driver settings all the time (more of a chance for something to go wrong or be set incorrectly). I've also checked the printer settings from within YaST and they are all ok.
I did try changing the settings from within the CUPS interface but when I did that, I could no longer print. The system couldn't connect to port 631 anymore and I had to go into YaST again to make it reconnect to the printer port. BTW, when I looked just now at the default printer settings within CUPS, everything seems to be set right, duplex is set to off and print quality is set to standard, which is what I want. Why does Libre Office seem to be ignoring these settings? How can I fix this (easily I hope)?

I have box that I run Sid on. I haven't used if for a month or so and have found that OpenOffice is gone and appears to have been replace by LibreOffice. I have come across one other thread which noted something similar. Is LibreOffice any better than OpenOffice? I plan to purge LibreOffice and install OpenOffice back on unless there is a good reason to keep LibreOffice.

I have a weird printing issue with OpenOffice.
When I print from OpenOffice Writer, some characters are replaced by random characters. For example, this morning all capital "I"'s were replaced by "" (German special character), a "J" was replaced by "t", and so on. But not all characters are replaced, most are correct.
In addition, the top of the documents are cut off, as if there is an overly wide top margin where the printer cannot print.
I exported the document to PDF and printed from Acrobat Reader, and everything was fine. No problems!
I'm running the Lucid release candidate (but the problem has bugged me for a while now), with a Brother HL2030 printer.

In general, OpenOffice is quite buggy. My latest problem has been printing. I have this .dot file. When I print it to a networked printer, the document never prints. However, these work:Print to PDF. Printing to a file, transferring the file to the destination machine, and printing it works. Transfer the document. If I print the document directly on the destination system using LibreOffice, it works fine. Printing a web page. This works fine. Since I have a workaround, it's not so crucial that this be fixed. I'm just venting .

I have a Konica 2530DL colour laser and have used it with versions from 6.06 onwards.
However now, with 10.10 I find I cannot print at from most apps eg OpenOffice or PDFs. I get errors on video frame showing on the printer but nothing obvious on the PC.
Test print and gedit text prints works fine and so does using a VM with Lucid running on the same host prints fine too from anything.
Can't see any other comments about this problem anywhere but I know the printer is fairly common and has worked well with Linux in the past.
Using it with IP printing on port 9100 and allow the installation to detect and select the driver. Not setup anything clever and I have the same issue with a Lucid upgrade to 10.10 or a clean install. However the VM running Lucid prints fine. Must be something changed on Maverick somewhere.

I expected more from ubuntu 10.4 with regards to printing with exact size photos and with poor auto colour printing but the situation remains unchanged! for instance .. the photo size configurations for ubuntu/fspot/gimp and others are not compatible with my printers (HP and Brother) .. here in Europe a typical standard size photo (10x15inches or 150x100mm are not even on the Ubuntu listing? I have tried all listed possibilities including "custom" (which does not seem to ever work correctly?)and the result at best is photos with uneven boarders or at worse my printer goes a bit crazy with much wasted photo paper and expensive ink ...even photos selected for "no boarders" still produces photos with the self same uneven boarders.
I have tried pretty much everything over time following advice in this forum and including using HPlip and updating drivers required for my Brother printer but the root problem seemingly lies with the Ubunto photo size setup listing. Working with Ubuntu over the years I have found that it can do pretty much everything that Windows can do except for this dam ongoing photo quality and configuration problem.

For instance, using dd, you create an image of a whole hard drive, all partitions. The script then comes and mounts the partition located at offset 63 (or whatever the user picks).I do not see this option in the mount command. No other searches turned up anything meaningful. So I am bowing to the gurus.

i have a problem here whereby some 20 over servers in my network is having regular Offset values. The configured threshold is 55, but whenever it exceeds 55, i have alerts coming in. My questions are;
1)how do i find out what is causing the Offset value to be high?
2)i have workaround in mind, that is to create a cronjob to restart the ntp daily, or hourly - is this workaround an acceptable practice?
My main concern is to find out what is causing the frequent offset spike/increase. real example from my servers:

I have an nfs share that mounts automatically when kde starts.
Code:
wendy@DellNB:~$ cat .kde/Autostart/mountNAS.sh
#!/bin/bash
mount ~/TestShare
#echo "NAS Mounted"
[code]...
Gimp works fine editing and saving photos from/to the nfs share. kWrite can do its thing and read/create files on the NAS. Files I create with vim are visible and editable under windows. OpenOffice however, when I try an open a file I get "file is locked by unknown user." I open as copy and try saving to the share with a different name... No Dice, error saving to share the file is created on the share but it is empty. I did some reading and found a post that said to comment a line from a file called soffice, which I cannot find.

I am dualbooting Karmic, windows 7, and fedora. When I boot, Grub2 will boot everything but Windows 7. Instead it says:
Code:
reloc offset is out of the segment
abort.
I've tried reinstalling and updating grub2 and I also tried grub. It wasn't a problem until I put Lucid on a 4th partition that's always been there. I let lucid install grub2 and after that windows didn't work, but I got the same error when I reinstalled it from karmic. I got a different error from grub (that I don't remember), but I wasn't positive about the configuration so that may have been my fault.

I'm having trouble keeping NTP synchronized and able to provide time updates to other devices on the private network. I believe this is because the server has a too large of offset, that causes all NTP clients syncing through the server to fail.
I have two setups, one working, one failing, with mostly identical installation and settings.
Setup A is the working setup, as I will name it, is ubuntu server edition 8.04 with kernel 2.6.33.1. ntpd version is 4.2.4p4.
ntpq -p outputs this information:
remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset jitter
