I am attempting to get a Brother HL-2270DW B&W Laser Printer working (USB/LAN/Wifi Capable) and on my journey of instructions from the brother website, it stated there are a few "Pre-required Procedures"Quote:

I have a problem similar to the one the poster in [URL]. I can't install Skype and some some other programs. The error message says something like this: lib32stdc++6: Depends: gcc-4.4-base (=4.4.2-3ubuntu1) but 4.4.3-4ubuntu5 will be installed Depends: lib32gcc1 and will not be installed
I just installed 10.04 and almost all settings are at their defaults.
I am trying to install a ubuntu server to serve sites. More than one, so Ill use Apache VirtualHost. When installing ubuntu server ask me about installing DNS Server? do i need it?
Perty self explanitory, I'm trying to boot up ubunto server edition 10.10 from a USB stick (pen drive) and it works fine until step 3 when it says "Your installation CD-ROM couldn't be mounted. This probably means that the CD-ROM was not put in the drive. If so you can insert it and try again
Try again to mount the CD-ROM? <Yes> <No>"
I don't have an installation cd-rom! I put the .iso file onto a memory stick, inserted it into my old computer (which i will turn into a server later) , restarted it and got past the first two slides and got this error? Do I have to put the iso on a cd-rom?
I would like to install and configure Transparent squid proxy on a gateway server ,but i dont have a local OR intranet DNS server.I am facing issues do that ,regard .My IP series is 192.168.1.1/24
I have been trying to get Gnome and VNC installed on Ubuntu 10.10 Server 64 bit which is running on a VPS which I have no physical access to (only SSH). I have successfully done this on CentOS before (using guides I found through Google) but I cannot seem to get it set up in Ubuntu. First of all, I have good reasons for needing a *full* GUI via VNC on my VPS. I am aware of the security implications. Like I said, I have done this before on CentOS, but I want this machine to use Ubuntu as I need a Debian environment. So far, I have clean installed, then installed the desktop environment by:
Code:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
Then I have created a sudoer user through which I installed vnc4server following instructions on [URL] I have tried a variety of tweaks since then but the closest I have managed to come to connecting to VNC is a grey VNC window (of the correct geometry that I specified), with a black pattern with the X mouse pointer which moves around. I know I can't be far off with this, but I am not getting Gnome or the software installed. I am using TightVNC on my local Ubuntu machine to connect.
I just came to ask a question which its answer will help me to get rid of installing linux ubuntu server 64-bit edition over 100 times. (hell of a job) the point is to prepare an installation CD in which all my company requirements like specifide partitioner and some packages included. the question is, Is that possible? if yes, HOW?
I am going to install an FTP server on a headless server running ubuntu. The thing is that I want to be able to manage it completely via a web interface or a remote gui from any other system. The idea is that the manager of the accounts of the ftp could do his tasks without having to ssh into the server or anything (since he will completely ignore its a linux system and he does not need to know how to use it or log in or whatever). Is there any way to manage an ftp server like this?
There are no .exe files which you just click on and then follow the instructions like windows. I'm having troubles installing my sql server. I need to install mysql-5.1.50-linux-i686-glibc23.tar.gz. The website is [url]. I tried some commands in the terminal but it's of no help.
I also need to install earlier versions of firefox (at least before 3.6). So I downloaded 3.5.13 from the mozilla website but have no clue on how to install it.
I'm trying to install DekiWiki, which has as a dependency mysql-server. This is what's going on:
Code: root@servername:~# apt-get install mysql-server Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following extra packages will be installed:
[Code]...
Do you think this package might be corrupted, and if so can I manually specify a different version or a different package? I don't know what else to do; ctrl+c to kill it results in dpkg hangups that yeah, I can purge, but I'd rather not be doing that more than is really necessary.
I have been given a task to install samba server from my local PC in an another PC which is a linux server. The linux server is in my own company and I have been given its ip address and root login password. I don't know how to install that samba server from my own PC.
Qnaps run on Atom: is it possible to install Ubuntu server at all? I like them being small and easy on the power drain, but I'd rather have my OS of choice.
i am trying to install denyhost on ubuntu 9.10 server, to make it run as daemon.I am following steps from this linkI have downloaded version 2.5 of denyhosts, but i cannot find thi sfile/usr/bin/denyhosts.py
I'm about to install Ubuntu Server 10.04 on my home server. I have looked around, a lot, without finding a nice way to record or log all the steps of the installation.
I see two general paths of how my problem might be solved: Is there any installation log file which I could look in to see which options I choose? It would be best if it included all steps, including partitioning and, in my case, setting up an encrypted volume with a KVM-volume inside it. Are there any ways to record the installation or take screenshots of it? It's done using the console (with no X window system available). Maybe fbgrab could work, but I do not know how to make it available during the installation. I could also use a pen and paper. But that is error prone as I do not have the patience to write everything down. It's my last resort though.
I've got an old Gateway desktop machine that a friend gave me, but any time I try to do something in a window-based environment like GNOME or KDE, the system locks up. I'm under the impression that this is a driver issue since the ethernet and video are integrated on the motherboard and neither works appropriately.
I cracked the case and got the number for the motherboard, which is: 4000811. From here I'm not quite sure what to do to make sure I've got the right drivers for the motherboard in place and could use some I'm on 10.04 server and ONLY have access to a command line.
I'm trying to install server 10.10. I shose my language, than i give the command to install the server. At that moment my screens gets black. A couple of minutes later i get te following screen..
I did a fresh install (the installer erased 10.04 and installed 11.04) of Natty. Now as soon as I boot into Ubuntu I get the error "There is a problem with the configuration server....exited with status 256" This comes up before the log in screen, and once I type in my password, after as well. Also, I'm getting the error The configuration defaults for GNOME Power Manager have not been installed correctly.contact your computer administrator.
I cannot log in. I just get sent back to the log in screen.I have searched and searched for a solution to both of these errors, and it seems that no one can find a solution to the configuration server error.
I'm a Chinese user and installed ubuntu server. I choosed Chinese when installing and the console could display Chinese, but when finished installation and rebooted, the console couldn't display Chinese filename. Any body knows why and which terminal was used when installing?
