Feb 22, 2011Perty self explanitory, I'm trying to boot up ubunto server edition 10.10 from a USB stick (pen drive) and it works fine until step 3 when it says "Your installation CD-ROM couldn't be mounted. This probably means that the CD-ROM was not put in the drive. If so you can insert it and try again
Try again to mount the CD-ROM? <Yes> <No>"
I don't have an installation cd-rom! I put the .iso file onto a memory stick, inserted it into my old computer (which i will turn into a server later) , restarted it and got past the first two slides and got this error? Do I have to put the iso on a cd-rom?

Mar 3, 2011I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx.
I have reinstalled mysql-server-5.1 using the command "sudo apt-get --reinstall install mysql-server-5.1".
But its giving error message at the end of installation when its trying to start the server.
The error message is as follows.
When i tried to start the server after the installation, i get this error message
Note : The file "/etc/mysql/my.cnf" is empty.

Mar 25, 2011After untarring the file and executing the binary for firefox, the following error is coming "brilliant:/firefox # ./firefox ./firefox-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libpangocairo-1.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory". The libpangocairo-1.0.so.0 is there in /usr/lib.. I guess this is because the SuSE is 64 bit and the software Im trying to install is 32 bit.

Jun 27, 2011If I have a hard-disk with Ubuntu fully installed on it and I want to - all of a sudden - use Windows XP, is it mandatory that I firstly format the hard-disk first? So far, I have used two versions of Windows XP; one of them is from a few years before the other. Both copies of Windows XP when in start-up from booting from CD are causing errors. One of them is a BSOD error (0x0000007B) and the next Windows CD is stopping and giving me an error with setupdd.sys (error code 4). Is it required that the hard-disk is formatted before you even put a Windows boot CD in?

Sep 8, 2010I've been trying to install Ubuntu Server onto Microsoft Virtual Server at the request of my boss, and I've been having an issue I cannot seem to work around. Now my background on Ubuntu and linux in general isnt amazing, I have configured server at home to act as a file sharing platform and a media server, but thats about it.

May 25, 2011i tries to upgrade my fc14 to fc15 using preupgrade. during installation packages process i get an error "fatal error bla-bla-bla installing netsniff-ng-...". i've booted in fc14 (in emergency mode) and manually removed old netsniff-ng package and installed new package. after that i've booted in preupgrade process. it finishes successfull. but now i can't boot in fc15 - i get "kernel panic" error. i've opened grub.conf and there is no 'initrd' section and there is no initramfs for fc15 in /boot folder. i've tried to boot fc15 with initrd /initramfs-bla-bla-fc14.i686.PAE.img. fc15 booted, but i think something wrong, because network not working, and there is only "lo" in ifconfig. what can i do?
