Ubuntu :: Installing Firefox 4 Beta On 10.04?

Jan 21, 2011

So i have installed FireFox 4 Beta (..some reason its called Minefield 4.0 Browser??) on ubuntu 10.04 - now I have recently installed it onto my Windows machine about a week ago and I am inlove with it over Chrome, which is why I made the switch for my Ubuntu machine aswell - but I am wondering..

1) Why does it look like Firefox 3?? On windows its a completely new layout, design, and feel.. but on Ubuntu it looks and acts just like regular Firefox 3.

2) Whats with the name difference? When I pull up my browswer data online it says its Mozilla 5.0, but just dont understand?

3) Some javascript/jquery does not work anymore?

Is there something that I have done wrong, or installed the wrong package? I tried to download the file from firefox's website directly (a .tar.bz2 file) but could not figure out how to install it [i am an ubuntu newbie], so I went into terminal and installed it with the package manager with the following command(s):

Code:
sudo apt-get remove firefox
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get autoclean

[Code]....

now this might be more of a firefox question, but I am sure there are some Ubuntu users using the 4.0 beta w/ HTML5, WebGL and other new features

Ubuntu :: Add The Repository For A Current Version Of Firefox 3.0 Or Opera?

Mar 17, 2010

Just a reminder, Firefox 3.0 will reach End of Life status with the upcoming release of Firefox 3.0.19. This may concern you if you are still on Jaunty (like me). You may want to search the forum on how to add the repository for a current version of Firefox or Opera. Anybody who knows what Canonical will do in such a situation if a critical bug shows up after Firefox 3.0 will no longer be supported, but Jaunty still is supported?

General :: How To Identify Current CPU In A Parallel Machine

Sep 1, 2010

I do not know much about parallel computing, but I do have access to a few cpus.I am trying to write a program compatible for multiple cpus, but to do it, I need to ensure unique directories. I have figured out that the time of creation, process id, and cpu id form a unique combination I can use to name files (up to the degree of accuracy of the internal timer).Anyway, I am using perl. I know how to find the process id and I know I can get the time pretty easily, but as I said, I do not know much about hardware or parallel computing. All I need is a way to identify each cpu in the system and I am set for half of my program (the other half is significantly more straightforward and is mainly about text parsing.)

So anyway using terminal, perl, etc., I could access this identification? Or could someone at least tell me the name of what I am looking for? I have seen the words "ip" "MAC" "hostid" and a bunch of other "id" things come up in my googling, but I really cannot figure out which is the one relevent to me

Ubuntu :: Installing Firefox - Version Doesn't Change ?

Feb 7, 2010

I decided to see if I could update my Firefox install that comes with Crunchbang Linux (cut-down Ubuntu).

I followed the Mozilla instructions to the letter and the first thing I found was that I had missing files and or directories. With this in mind and thinking about it - I uninstalled my current Firefox with the Package manager.

I then followed the install instrcutions again but, this time telling the system where to find the .tar.bz2 file I donwloaded (version 3.6 from the mozilla site).

Everything appeared to extract and following the instructions for starting Firefox - I got version 3.0.17, exactly the same as I already had.

How do i roll back firefox5beta to firefox4 and keep updating to the latest stable releases w/out upgrading to beta? The only extension that isn't working is FEBE which is incompatible w/ firefox5beta (profile, extension and preference backup). Have to use FEBE beta7 under Firefox4 so I don't think a compatible release for Firefox5beta is going to come out any time soon.

Ubuntu :: How To Uninstall Beta Version Of Adobe Flash 10.1

Feb 18, 2010

Why is everything with this ubuntu so complex and difficult? This operating system turns the act of installing/uninstalling into a huge task. Just yesterday I installed the beta release of flash 10.1, I thought that it went into my firefox folder, but I checked firefox 3.5.7 plugins and it isn't there. So my question is, where on earth could it have possibly gone? Terminal said that it installed somewhere on my home directory, but I've been searching everywhere and I can't find anything. I know it's there because videos require flash work. where is my home directory, and what is it? I'm using ubuntu 9.10.
