I am still fairly new at using Ubuntu however I have Ubuntu 9.04 64b installed on my newly constructed Intel dual core PC. Everything is working fine however I have just installed the Skype beta deb package for Ubuntu 8.10+ 64b and it won't let me sign on. The installation as far as I know went fine however when I go to enter my UN and PW the "Sign In" button will not light up.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to use Skype beta on my acer aspire one with ubuntu 10.10. The video runs brilliantly and i can also here my wife from the other end but she cannot hear me. Apparently something is fishy with my mic input. I tried alsamixer and everything is in unmute. My alsa version is 1.0.23. The only think she hears is a loud hissing noise which is normally my bat voice but she doesnt need to know that. I can record my voice in the sound recorder but nothing comes out in Skype!

I have dual setup, after choosing Ubuntu, I receive GNU GRUB version 1.97~Beta 4 error. I am also told to press TAB for further commands, but none of the commands seem to do anything.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed the 10.04 64 bit beta after 9.10 went down on me AGAIN, and when I booted up and got to the login screen I got the ubuntu chimes then the screen went black, the three lights on my keyboard, numlock etc, started flashing every second, and the chimes continued every second. Machine was completely unresponsive, cntrl+alt+del or cntrl+alt+backspace did nothing. Any ideas or how do I report this officially like?

What do I do to boot my system? Previously I was able to select from the grub menu. But not in this case. Any suggestions. I have an XP system as well on the same hard drive. I used wubi to install Ubuntu 9.10.

At the moment my webcams resolution appears to be half the size of what it should be which is creating a double vision/image of me and I can only see about half of my head vertically. My resolution should be 640X480, but it clearly is not. It looks way smaller like 320X240.

I've just followed the instructions at SDB:Skype - openSUSE again, as before. The install didn't start automatically when the download finished so I used package installer. Skype appears to start normally, before promptly closing itself after about 3-5 seconds. When running it from terminal, I get the message:

When I open the "Options" of Skype, the camera can be recognized and there is video. But I don't know how to start a Skype video call. My Skype account is "dynamiccliu" if you want to add me and have a try the video call.

The programm skype.exe has encountered a serioys problem and needs to close...
This can be caused by a problem in the programm or a defiency in Wine You may want to check...for tips.
Well I cant find anything with the same or similar problem and I also can not uninstall skype using the wine uninstaller. It just doenst do it.
So here's the schedule for 10.04:
April 8th, 2010 - Beta 2 release;
April 22nd, 2010 - Release Candidate;
April 29th, 2010 - Final release of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
If I have 10.04 beta 1, could I just continue to update and not have to burn another disk to install? Or do I have to burn the beta 2 and reinstall if I want it?
I have a strange problem with my skype beta (latest) and Pidgin (gmail account) the problem is when i make voice call, it works fine for 1 or 2 mins then the voice drops and it connects after 20,30 secs.
