View 3 RepliesIIm running several Webservers on CentOS 5.2. Due to the Hosting-Platform I use, it is recommended that there will not be CentOS 5.3-Updates installed. So I searched the net a lot now but didn't find a propper solution. Is there a way to tell yum only install patches and updates for version 5.2 and not to upgrade to 5.3?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI did a "yum install thunderbird" to get the thunderbird emal program. I got a beta version: thunderbird 3 beta 4.Is Fedora so bleeding edge that this should have happened? I have not changed the repositories that the installation of FC11 uses.(I haven't used 3 beta 4 enough to have any complaints about how it works.)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am currently following the instructions from the Linux From Scratch book and have made it to the downloading of the patches. There are links to all of the needed patches but when you click them, instead of downloading a file like I expected, it takes you to an html page displaying (I'm guessing) some sort of programming or scripting language. Link to the page with the all the patch download links. From there instead of downloading the file it displays its contents.

(had to break it up because the forum won't allow me to post links yet ) My question is: What do I need to do with this text? Do I copy and paste it into a text file? Are there certain extensions that I need to append to the text files?
I was well aware of the KDE trinity project from the start. Its so that users can have KDE 3 X alongside 4 X. The lucid release is due soon. Anyway I did try some releases a while back. I would like to know whether this project is very actively developed? What I mean is do they devlop security updates and maintainance patches regularly? Are there any actual KDE developers involved? (Some Kubuntu developers are)

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhy is everything with this ubuntu so complex and difficult? This operating system turns the act of installing/uninstalling into a huge task. Just yesterday I installed the beta release of flash 10.1, I thought that it went into my firefox folder, but I checked firefox 3.5.7 plugins and it isn't there. So my question is, where on earth could it have possibly gone? Terminal said that it installed somewhere on my home directory, but I've been searching everywhere and I can't find anything. I know it's there because videos require flash work. where is my home directory, and what is it? I'm using ubuntu 9.10.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am thinking about upgrading my home computer to the beta. Having been burned by Microsoft's RC program and reloading my kids computers, I wondering if I will be able to move to the final release when it comes out at the end of the month. If the upgrade path from Beta->LTS is a complete reinstall, I'll wait.

Is there a way to reset the yum database so that it can go and re-apply the patches that have already been installed?
I have a Fedora 12 with the latest patches, and I managed to screw up some files or delete some files to the point where all I have now is the Fedora splash screen when I reboot.
I can get to single-user mode, and the thinking is that if I can get yum to ignore the latest patches that are already installed and pull down and re-install the latest patches, then whatever files that are corrupt or missing will be put back.
how to update patches in fc12.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to build a new kernel. I was directed toI tried following the instructions but I think I may have ended up with way more than I wanted. After just over 3 hours the build exhausted the 5.2GB I had available and fell over. The .config file used was nearly twice the size of the one I supplied. Why was it changed?I don't need an rpm.Are the patches supplied with the 2.6.38 sources required or nice to have?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI know of the general difference between the LTS and regular releases, but there is one thing I can't seem to find out. Do the LTS versions have the most up to date software? Currently I use 11.04. If I switched to 10.04, would I have the latest versions of all installed software after all the latest updates (for instance Virtualbox OSE 4.04 or Firefox 5 as found in the 11.04 repositories)?

View 3 Replies View Relatedim still a newbie but after long weeks discovering the best distro for my laptop and the my DWA-140 usb stick. i get a try with puppy. so far it's working stable but a lot of differences with the another "normal" distros. like fedora, suse, ubuntu etc. this one installs him self as a live boot cd to you HD. it's not possible to create more users.
another points but not important. my main question it's like the another distros Lucid puppy updates him selvs automatically to a newer version? just a quick point who has a D-LINK DWA 140 just need to get the windows .inf file from XP and use it to install with the software repo for windows inf files. that cames with puppy.
has the another distros also this utility tool? in the last puppy is a very stable and very very very easy to use distro from linux that use as base ubuntu!
I am trying to use Skype beta on my acer aspire one with ubuntu 10.10. The video runs brilliantly and i can also here my wife from the other end but she cannot hear me. Apparently something is fishy with my mic input. I tried alsamixer and everything is in unmute. My alsa version is 1.0.23. The only think she hears is a loud hissing noise which is normally my bat voice but she doesnt need to know that. I can record my voice in the sound recorder but nothing comes out in Skype!
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been running tomcat as a web server for quite a while. One particular application requires OpenOffice to be up a server for document conversion. Under Fedora 14 (and NOT before), I had to add Xvfb to the mix so OpenOffice could run properly headless. I have a script to start/stop/restart tomcat (S99tomcat) which has been working flawlessly until I did the most recent updates to Fedora. The script still works fine (S99tomcat start) at boot time. However when I invoke stop and then start it due to an application change (or just restart) - openoffice fails to come up whining about xrand
Here is the line I use to bring up OpenOffice
/usr/lib64/openoffice.org3/program/soffice -nologo -headless -accept=socket,host=localhost,port=9999,tcpNoDelay= 1;urp;StarOffice.ServiceManager
It took a lot of research to get the above right (open office parameters are sensitive to order on the command line and quotes need to be put around the parameters as there is a semicolon embedde in the accept parameters.
Anyway - here is the new error
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display ":1.0".
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display ":1.0".
Xvfb is running on Display ":1"
If I reboot the machine this same command set will run fine. This just happened when I applied the newest patches for all my software (normally I do this weekly).
Is there a package in YUM now that automatically updates amavisd-new to version 2.6.4??? My VM comes stock with version 2.5.4 and i absolutely CANNOT update it to 2.6.4 due to incompatibility issues in Maia Mailguard. When I do the package upgrade I don't understand but i specifically do NOT choose amavisd-new to be updated and everytime I check to see my latest version it is at version 2.6.4 I don't get it am I missing something? What can be causing my package to always get upgraded to the new version when I am not upgrading it.
I have spamassassin 3.3.1
clamav 0.96
postfix 2.3.3
Tried out the latest Fedora 13 release for kicks, and seem to be liking it so far I'm an openSUSE user and created some RPMs (on openSUSE) for myself which have the Ubuntu font rendering patches in them. I played around with the Fedora RPMs and managed to patch freetype-freeworld, cairo, fontconfig and Xfto achieve subpixel hinting on par with Ubuntu I wanted to share them with the Fedora community, if interested. Is there any place like an openSUSE Build Service for Fedora where I can host them...or maybe some community site that can host them? A screenshot of my desktop:

I have a fedora 11 with kernel package: kernel-PAE-2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11.i686
I would like to install the devel package for this kernel version, but I can't find it, because in the fedora repo there is only the original kernel (2.6.29.4....) and in the updates repo there is only the newest kernel package (2.6.30....)
Where can I find the packages which are between the fedora and update repos' versions?
