Ubuntu :: Installing Firefox 4 Beta On 10.04?

Jan 21, 2011

So i have installed FireFox 4 Beta (..some reason its called Minefield 4.0 Browser??) on ubuntu 10.04 - now I have recently installed it onto my Windows machine about a week ago and I am inlove with it over Chrome, which is why I made the switch for my Ubuntu machine aswell - but I am wondering..

1) Why does it look like Firefox 3?? On windows its a completely new layout, design, and feel.. but on Ubuntu it looks and acts just like regular Firefox 3.

2) Whats with the name difference? When I pull up my browswer data online it says its Mozilla 5.0, but just dont understand?

3) Some javascript/jquery does not work anymore?

Is there something that I have done wrong, or installed the wrong package? I tried to download the file from firefox's website directly (a .tar.bz2 file) but could not figure out how to install it [i am an ubuntu newbie], so I went into terminal and installed it with the package manager with the following command(s):

Code:
sudo apt-get remove firefox
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get autoclean

[Code]....

now this might be more of a firefox question, but I am sure there are some Ubuntu users using the 4.0 beta w/ HTML5, WebGL and other new features

Ubuntu :: Firefox BEta 5 - Roll Back And Keep Firefox At Latest Stable Release?

Jun 17, 2011

How do i roll back firefox5beta to firefox4 and keep updating to the latest stable releases w/out upgrading to beta? The only extension that isn't working is FEBE which is incompatible w/ firefox5beta (profile, extension and preference backup). Have to use FEBE beta7 under Firefox4 so I don't think a compatible release for Firefox5beta is going to come out any time soon.

Ubuntu :: Can't Login After Installing Natty Beta

Apr 1, 2011

I just tried upgrading to the Natty beta. I am having a problem logging in now. When I boot up I get to the GDM login window and try to log in. Then I get an error message that says: Failed to load session "ubuntu" And then I click log out and it just states me back to the login screen. There is no menu to select sessions or anything on the login screen, just the shutdown menu and the clock.

--Edit-- I fixed part of the problem and I can access my sessions now. I can log in using GnomeShell, but any of the other options result in "failed to load session 'ubuntu'" or "failed to load session 'gnome-classic'". I'm getting the feeling something is broken with Gnome, but I don't know what.

Since there appears it will take some time for the official Fedora repo to provide version 4.1 (I checked Koji already), I was wondering if anybody around here already made an rpm that would kindly share. I even tried the tar package provided by Homebank's website but wasn't successful installing it.

Even risking the removal of some questionable items I just don't see freeing up this much space to make it happen. Is there another way to install 10.04?Is there a way to increase the space allocation to root?Stupid question but, can I delete the image file for 2.6.31-20 without affecting the 2.6.31-20 version? General :: Installing Redhat 6 Beta 2 Server Without A Dvd Drive?

Dec 23, 2010

I currently have a HP Server DL580, with a cd rom drive

I don't have an an external dvd drive. I don't have a scusi dvd drive I don't have a pci card for ide or sata connections I have fedora core 14 installed on it (although so far have failed to get the internet to work on the server - but that is a separate issue and probably not worth fixing if I am going to change OS)I have downloaded the dvd, copied the iso to fedora - using a USB pen Mounted the dvd within fedora - but it seems it needs to run on boot I've tried installing the dvd onto a pen drive (ie bootable) - which works on my pc - but the server doesn't seem to like the idea of booting from USB.

I can get Redhat 6 enterprise server on cd. But it there is a simple work around I'd be greatful too.

I am regretably a complete rooky so please make any instructions very simple.

I know you are thinking why is a complete rooky trying to install a redhat server - the only answer to that is - why not - gotta learn sometime.

I got the dvd iso from: ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/rhel...00000000000000

I can't find any cd iso files

The only way at the moment is to manually set the proxy in firefox. This doesnt seem right? Surely FF should pick up the system proxy? Does anyone have any ideas about this one?

Ubuntu :: Installing Firefox 3.5 On 8.10?

Mar 11, 2010

I'm currently running Ubuntu 8.10 on my system76 notebook as I was having problem after problem after upgrading. However, not having up to date software is a bit of a problem. How should I go about installing firefox 3.5 so I can have the most up to date version? Will I need to compile? Can I just install a .deb from karmic repos? Does the current version need removed first?

And there are several other pieces of software I want to stay current with, such as digiKam, but found it impossible because of dependency hell. Should I expect to be downloading tarballs and compiling any programs I want to upgrade past their stage in the 8.10 repos?

Ubuntu :: Setting Up/installing 2 Different Firefox Browsers?

May 28, 2011

so I'm trying to run an extension for firefox that is no longer handled with firefox 4.0+. I've googled that you can run two different versions of firefox on the same system, but you have to have them set up as two different profiles. Basically having the two different browsers set up in two different locations running there own things from different files, etc.

How can I go about setting up an older version of firefox in a different location, instead of just running the setup in general which would conflict with my newer version?

I know it can be done, but a simple sudo apt-get install firefox (version x.x) will basically override my newer version I would imagine. I've already found where to get the older versions file and everything, I just don't want to mess up my new version

Can someone please help me as to how to install this in another location not affecting my current version? I also understand that I will have to have another command to run this older version, so maybe if you could shed some light on how to set up the new command also,

Before Following This trick i would like to tell you that, Well use Non-Standard Repository for this, Non-Standard means this repository is not from any official Fedora or Red Hat Enterprise Linux. If you are sure and you want to perform this then Please take a back up of your all Mozilla Firefoxs Current Version, like BookMarks and all that stuff.
