Ubuntu :: Firefox Minefield Dropdown Menus

Feb 26, 2011

When running Firefox 4.0b13pre (2011-02-25) Minefield occasionally and suddenly I can't access any item in a drop-down menu. The menu appears but just disappears when attempting to move the mouse cursor into the drop-down items list. When the problem starts it applies to all menus. The only solution is to close Firefox and reopen when, of course, all is fine until next time. The problem seems to begin entirely randomly and I can't reproduce it at will.

Ubuntu :: Firefox BEta 5 - Roll Back And Keep Firefox At Latest Stable Release?

Jun 17, 2011

How do i roll back firefox5beta to firefox4 and keep updating to the latest stable releases w/out upgrading to beta? The only extension that isn't working is FEBE which is incompatible w/ firefox5beta (profile, extension and preference backup). Have to use FEBE beta7 under Firefox4 so I don't think a compatible release for Firefox5beta is going to come out any time soon.

Debian :: Iceweasel 4.0 Beta 1 Preliminary Packages?

Jul 11, 2010

For those that like to play have fun. glandium.org Blog Archive Iceweasel 4.0 beta 1 preliminary packages for Debian, and a nice trick Iceweasel 4.0 beta 1 preliminary packages for Debian, and a nice trick Since this blog is now syndicated on Planet Mozilla, a little background for its readers: Iceweasel is the name under which Firefox is distributed in Debian. This is an unfortunate detail due to copyright issues with the Firefox logos that have been solved recently. Work is under progress to get Firefox back in Debian (I do have good hope this will be possible).

Anyways, Ive started to work on getting Iceweasel in shape for the 4.0 release in a few months. The packaging being in a good enough shape, I am hereby making available some preliminary packages (meaning there is still some more work needed for proper packaging) for the first beta release. The packages are available in a separate repository, which you need to add to your sources.list: [URL]..

Only x86 and x86-64 (amd64) packages are available for now. As far as I tested it, it works as well as the official Firefox 4.0beta1 binaries, though some xpcshell tests failed, and I havent got reftests working yet. If you still wish to use a current version of iceweasel (i.e. non-beta), but want to try this beta, here is the nice trick: Instead of installing iceweasel from the above mentioned repository,

Ubuntu :: Installing Firefox 4 Beta On 10.04?

Jan 21, 2011

So i have installed FireFox 4 Beta (..some reason its called Minefield 4.0 Browser??) on ubuntu 10.04 - now I have recently installed it onto my Windows machine about a week ago and I am inlove with it over Chrome, which is why I made the switch for my Ubuntu machine aswell - but I am wondering..

1) Why does it look like Firefox 3?? On windows its a completely new layout, design, and feel.. but on Ubuntu it looks and acts just like regular Firefox 3.

2) Whats with the name difference? When I pull up my browswer data online it says its Mozilla 5.0, but just dont understand?

3) Some javascript/jquery does not work anymore?

Is there something that I have done wrong, or installed the wrong package? I tried to download the file from firefox's website directly (a .tar.bz2 file) but could not figure out how to install it [i am an ubuntu newbie], so I went into terminal and installed it with the package manager with the following command(s):

Code:
sudo apt-get remove firefox
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get autoclean

[Code]....

now this might be more of a firefox question, but I am sure there are some Ubuntu users using the 4.0 beta w/ HTML5, WebGL and other new features

I have also run export [URL].. All seems to be ok, yum works from the command line, konquer goes out to the net just fine. However firefox wont connect to the internet no matter. The only way at the moment is to manually set the proxy in firefox. This doesnt seem right? Surely FF should pick up the system proxy? Does anyone have any ideas about this one?

This is on Meerkat, upgraded from long before (Lucid, i believe). I'm guessing the KDE packages are due to me having Amarok and konsole installed some time long ago, so i assumed i could ditch these. The terminal output from the commands above is attached.

Slackware :: Packages Disappearing At Shutdown - Firefox And Pidgin Refused To Run?

Dec 19, 2010

It seems that I will get slackware working fine, just the way I want, and after I turned it off and turned it back on, Firefox and Pidgin refused to run because something was missing that was there before.

After uninstalling them both, and then realizing that the package was somehow uninstalled without me knowing, I reinstalled it in case anything else needed it. That was yesterday, and now today I woke up and started the computer, trying to use Konqueror. Strangely, there's no wireless internet, so I tried to use wicd and it just doesn't start. I try again from the terminal and I get this:

[Code]....

ImportError: /usr/lib/libdbus-glib-1.so.2: undefined symbol g_variant_new_double So I went and used slackpkg and it seems that libdbusmenu was uninstalled too. I really don't understand what's going on here. It's pretty annoying because without wicd I can't even use an ethernet connection, so the computer is basically useless to me at this point.

Ubuntu :: Apt/dpkg: Segregate User Application Packages From System Packages?

Dec 2, 2010

Is there a way using dpkg or apt-get to segregate user application packages from system packages? What I envision is an /apps directory structure that can be the install target for selected packages so not to "clutter" the storage areas for the system administration files/packages - maybe even with permissions set so that (a GROUP of) users could install packages on an Ubuntu server w/o SysAdmin guidance. This could also allow 1)system upgrades with or w/o including these packages, and 2)the sharing of /apps (via NFS) among common Ubuntu systems. Is this doable using the dpkg or apt maintenance tools?

Debian :: Installing I386 Packages Prompts Removal Of Amd64 Packages

Apr 8, 2015

I am working on a project which targets both 32 and 64 bit architectures at the moment. My system is amd64. I added i386 architecture using this guide. However, my problem is

Code: Select allapt-get install package-name:i386

prompts the removal of currently installed packages (amd64 arch.) which is the problem.

Code: Select allReading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
  libportaudio0:i386

[Code] ...

Some of the packages I am talking about are

-libegl1-mesa-dev:i386
-libportaudio-dev:i386

Now, as of now, I want to carry out the compilation using 32 bit libraries, however, I really don't want to install 64bit version of all prerequisites each time I switch the compilation from 32 bit to 64. Is there any way to have both architectures at the same time?
