Jan 10, 2010Browser can't find server at att.yahoo.com so no internet. My folding at home client with Stanford can't download {an upload went ok}. I have 2 other fedora boxes & 3 windows boxes thru the same router and they are all fine.
I can manually ping Stanford ok,
Add/remove software within fed. works ok.
I can type in 192.168.0.1 & get the page for my router
The only thing I did between working & not working was to install
Nvidia Cuda driver for my GTX275
My guess is something in the firewall got tweaked. but I've compared it to 2 working boxes & nothing jumps out at me.

Normally, on Windows, I would have an anti-virus that would likely give me some sense of good or bad websites. On Ubuntu, I am not quite sure. Do I need a malware scanner for the firefox browser? Dec 1, 2010I'm an Oracle DBA and started working for my current employer about 4 months ago. This past weekend an alert re: FS space brought my attention to /var/spool/clientmqueue (full of mail re: cron jobs) and the fact that sendmail is not running on our Linux servers.I'm told that the IT security team deemed sendmail too vulnerable so we don't run it.Aside from FS filling up and missing notification of issues with crontab entries, I'm concerned that we may be missing notification of potential issues. In other Unix/Linux environments I've seen emails from the print daemon when it experienced problems with specific jobs.
Are there other Linux facilities aside from cron and lpd that use email to advise the users of possible issues? Are there ways to secure sendmail or secure alternatives to sendmail? My primary need/desire is to make sure that emails regarding issues on the server get to the appropriate users. Secondary goal would be to have the ability to use mailx to send mail out. There is No need/desire to receive mail from outside.
Debian :: Opera Browser New Repository Anywhere?
Mar 22, 2010I've always used the repos at [URL] to get Opera both on Lenny and Squeeze.
So my sources.list has this line:
deb [URL] lenny non-free
But now I see these has not been updated since november 2009. Is there a newer repo somewhere? I know you can download opera from the opera website - but that is too much work when you have many computers to manage.

May 31, 2010I have another opera browser problem,i upgraded to version 10.53 build 6330 last week. it keeps crashing the cpu goes to 100% and wont come down, i had this problem with the previous version but its a lot worse with the new version.
also noticed that when browsing ebay the scroll is very jerky until you get about a third of the way down the page then it scrolls ok again.
i get the feeling the crashes are something to do with the flash player.
i tried to uninstall flash but i cannot get it to uninstall .

I changed fonts in Opera >> Preferences but to no avail. Also I deleted .opera directory. No joy. The only solution I've found is to delete .fonts directory (but I want those fonts for other applications).

Apr 18, 2010The thing is that flash sucks for linux on 64-bit, performance vice. Due to this I actually download every clip to a temp folder and play the file while it's being downloaded with mplayer. This works really nice. Flash is not to play a video. Does there exist a plugin for this for any browser? I tried google, but I can't find the right words to search for. Edit: I did find a plugin for playing wmp things, that is not what I'm asking for!

My problem is as follows:I have installed Xubuntu on my machine to test a setup I want to to for my in-laws. Everything went well until I realised I have a problem loading some pages on Firefox.
There is no error message but they are just stuck on loading and finally timing out. I have then downloaded Opera and I am showing the same problem. A bit of research showed it could be a IPV6 issue. I therefore disabled ipv6 in about:config and also /etc/modprobe.d/aliases - 'alias net-pf-10 ipv6' to alias 'net-pf-10 off ipv6'. No change - still can't get those pages loaded.
