Ubuntu Installation :: No Sound 10.04 On Intel D945GCLF2?
Dec 21, 2010
I recently decided to install 10.04 on my Intel D945GCLF2 that has a dual-core 330 atom and 2gb of ram. The install went fine and video and everything works, but I cannot get any sound. Not sure if I am posting in the right section either. I am going to update my alsa driver to 1.0.23 but don't know if that will help.

I was just given a computer from a coworker and installed the latest Slackware version on it. I then installed Gnome Slackbuild and installed the Nvidia driver.I've run alsaconf and it seems to run fine without any errors and unmuted all the channels in alsamixer.

I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.04.1 lts server on my Intel "fakeraid" (software raid) (2x250 sata). To test my RAID 1 I turned off one HD and start the system. The first screen (Intel software screen) show Status = Degraded, but the system starts normally with just one HD.Then I turned off the system and turned on the HD again, so the first screen (Intel software screen) shows Status = Rebuild. If I enter in the software raid panel the folowing message is showed: "Volumes with "Rebuild" status will be rebuilt within the operating system"The system starts normally... but this message status stays permanently even I restart the system again

I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 and the whole installation went fine.
My only problem is that I have no sound MB is Intel DG45FC.
I know the hardware is OK because I tried it in Windows (dual booting).

Using Ubuntu 10.04 on an office laptop Dell Inspiron N5010. It has got Intel HD audio which does not work. Here is lspci -v
Code:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 06)
Subsystem: Dell Device 0447
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 32
Memory at fbd00000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
[code]....
The sound does not work at all. If anyone has had any issues like this before? I thought intel to work out of box and it has so far. I dont know why this issue with sound.

I think it's the HDA Intel anyway. In alsaconf it comes up with, 'hda-intel Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller', and I select that one. When I do, 'aplay /home/emor/sample.wav' it says it's playing but I don't here any audio. I've tried various configurations on both the alsamixer and the graphical XFCE sound mixer, and neither have really done anything. [URL]...

I recently received my new multimedia laptop - an HP Dv7. I proceeded to install Ubuntu 9.10 on it and I've had no end of troubles with the sound card including, muffled sound - seemingly only coming from the LFE channel, only stereo controls in pavucontrol, failure to send sound out the HDMI port, headphones not working and not cutting of the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.
I believe that all of this will be solved if I get the appropriate driver for my card. I have searched around and sound in particular has tons of posts from many people all with slightly different problems, solutions and hardware. None of the solutions seem to be working. Also I just tried booting from the live CD and the sound is the same - no 5.1 and just muffled sound. I think my sound card is just too new and there doesn't exist a proper driver for it yet.
Here's what I get with lscpi:
Code:
% lspci | grep Audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 05)
01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation Device 0be2 (rev a1)

New to Ubuntu. I've read all I can about the current mic issues with the Lucid 10.04 release. There does not seem to be any specific threads dealing with the GM45 chipset. I've had sound out of speakers on fresh install, and have done every single line addition (individually) suggested with:

I've recently installed stable (5.x, I think that's lenny...) on a laptop and there's no sound at all.
I had this problem years ago when I last installed linux on here. I solved it then and I thought the solution was unchecking "external amplifier" in alsamixer.
I believe my sound card (Intel 82801DB-ICH4) is detected and the appropriate driver loaded (snd_intel8x0) however, even running speaker-test produces no sound (no error either).
I've read that the intel hda have a model parameter found by greping for codec in /proc/asound/card? but I can't find any information about what codec is used in any path like that. Is there a model parameter for this card too? I'm on a philips freeline X10 laptop.
I ran alsaconf and nothing seemed to change. I tried alsactl init but the command init wasn't found, I suppose that must only be in newer releases. I installed libesd-alsa0 to replace libesd0 but that didn't help (should I revert this file? libesd0 says it's for oss). I also appended "options snd_intel8x0 index=0" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base which got the card registered as the first device.
Here are the outputs of commands I've seen used:

I get no sound with kernel 2.6.30-2-686 or 2.6.32-5-686. Works fine in 2.6.26-2-686. Card is found, it accepts streams but plays nothing to either internal speakers or headphones.

I have several computers based on ECS G41T-M motherboard, featuring ICH7 chipset with VIA VT1708B 8-ch audio codec. I've installed Debian Lenny 64-bit on it. The sound itself works, but mixer does not, thus, for example, I can not get my recording app working, changing volumes does not work etc.

I upgraded from 13 to 15 using preupgrade, and suddenly I don't have any audio / sound. I tried pavucontrol but it shows no hardware device available; alsamixer do show the hardware, though, as "HDA Intel". I attached alsa-info output. Running lspci I go this as audio device:

Technically it is a Realtek chipset I believe. Worked fine under 11.2. In the old days would just run alsaconf but I'm sure that is passe' by now.

trying to get ALSA running on a mainboard with onboard Intel soundchip using the snd-hda-intel driver. aplay detects no devices and amixer says: "Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory". Tried everything from the ALSA troubleshooting manual but no success... why is the card not recognized? Here is the output of a debug script I found. Up to now I just did "configure;make;make install" with alsa-utils, alsa-lib and alsa-driver...

I have been using Slackware64 newly installed to an external USB drive to get used to KDE4 and whatnot as I currently run Slackware 12.0. It's been very good and I now feel a little alienated when I reboot to Slackware 12 and KDE 3. There is an ongoing problem though. My machine has a front mounted jack socket for headphones which cuts off the feed to my external speakers as it should. When ever I plug in my headphones the volume coming through them rapidly drops off to nothing, If I then unplug them no sound comes back out through the external speakers. It could be that they are being reinstated when I unplug the headphones but the sound level has dropped to zero - as it has in the headphones. The machine has an on board Intel sound device reported like this :
[Code]....
This is a real pain and the only solution seems to be to reboot. This not only happens when in KDE but also if I run "speaker-test" as a test from the CLI as well.

I have recently moved to 9:10 and I found some problems with the sound card Intel. Reading some posts I managed to partially solve the problem and now I hear the music perfectly but only from the headphones: but I need to "unflug" external amplifier in gnome-alsa-mixer each time I reboot otherwise I not even feel the headphones

Well i will write this down one more time i hope you don't delete it again To enable surround sound with ALC888 on Intel DG31PR for all versions of ubuntu inluding Lucid.(this works on other distros with alsa as well) gksu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf Find this line (if there is no such line (or the file is empty) it doesn't matter just add the next line and save it)(note that on older Ubuntu versions the file is named "alsa-base" as far as i remember): # Prevent abnormal drivers from grabbing index 0
Add this line after the #Prevent abnormal drivers from grabbing index0: options snd_hda_intel model=3stack-6ch-dig Then use this command to edit pukeaudio: gksu gedit /etc/pulse/daemon.conf
Find this line:
; default-sample-channels = 2
Change it to (make sure to remove the ; in front of it):
default-sample-channels = 6

According to HDA Analyzer, my sound card is muted; however, I can't unmute it through HDA Analyzer or anything else. According to alsamixer, everything is unmuted, though. According to the ALSA documentation, there's no 'model' id for my codec -- Conexant 5069 -- so I don't have an option to put in /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf. What can I do to unmute the card???
Here's the hardware: cat /proc/asound/cards:
0 [Intel]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xd6400000 irq 34

i did the right thing and posted this on the mac fedora list, but it seems too few people hang out there and there were no replies at all for quite some time, so i have no other option but to try the general support list.problem:on both fc10 & 11, sound works within a browser e.g. [playing flash such as videos cnn and fox videos etc.problem is, as soon as i play a cd or a dvd, then the sound is completely dead afterwards.somehow dvd's and cds completely disables sound.

Just installed Fedora 15, using default options. Sound works through headphone jack but not thru pc speaker. (Machine has no external speakers.) Puzzling, since an identical hardware-wise machine with same /etc/modprobe.d files works fine.

I seem to have problems with sound on a ICH7 chip. the motherboard is an ASUS P5LD2-SE
The kernel is custom, but SND_HDA_* is included. and generally the sound device is identified properly.
Here is some relevant output of aplay -l and -L, lsmod and relevant part of lspci -vv

But my GPU doesn't have an HDMI output (and no sound module either). Note that I did see a similar msg

To this one (of course it didn't include any nvidia references) but after running alsaconf, alsamixer, alsactl store once the msg vanished.
This thread didn't help either [url] as I'm running slackware64 13.1 on this pc and there are no newer alsa* package versions for me to install than the ones I already have.
