Jun 30, 2011Technically it is a Realtek chipset I believe. Worked fine under 11.2. In the old days would just run alsaconf but I'm sure that is passe' by now.

Dec 13, 2010I seem to have problems with sound on a ICH7 chip. the motherboard is an ASUS P5LD2-SE
The kernel is custom, but SND_HDA_* is included. and generally the sound device is identified properly.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: No Audio For ICH7 Sound Card On 11.2
Jul 18, 2011This is a Dell Optiplex 380 desktop with an ICH7 family 82801G sound card. If I install openSUSE 11.3 or HIGHER, the OS will properly auto-configure the card and the sound is fine. However, 11.3 or higher also has an issue playing back full-screen flash video as well as 11.2 (may be a 64-bit related issue?). I suspect that the problem lies somewhere in the fact that this PC was produced considerably after the release of oS 11.2 so it's not detecting the card right.
I have gone so far as to enable a repo newer than the SUSE version to attempt to upgrade the ALSA components. I guess what I can do is throw in a live CD for 11.3 or 4 and go into YaST or 50-sound.conf and try to see what's going on or just copy it to a flash drive. I have a feeling that might get me farther than jerking around with this any longer.

Feb 14, 2010I have several computers based on ECS G41T-M motherboard, featuring ICH7 chipset with VIA VT1708B 8-ch audio codec. I've installed Debian Lenny 64-bit on it. The sound itself works, but mixer does not, thus, for example, I can not get my recording app working, changing volumes does not work etc.Here what it looks like:

Apr 15, 2011I ran openSUSE way back since version 7.3, before that I was on Redhat 6 and briefly at 5 before that. I know my way around Linux pretty well but two problems with Fedora are bothering me right now. I'll begin a separate thread for each one to keep things clear.The first problem is with sound. I remember having problems with the Intel ICH7 chipset and pulseaudio on openSUSE, but the problem I have with Fedora is different. Sound works, but each time after rebooting, I have to open alsamixer to turn the master volume up from zero. Being an openSUSE user, I am comfortable with KDE, so I am running KDE 4.6.1 as my DE.Two sound devices have been detected, one is the Intel soundcard, which is recognized as snd_hda_intel. The primary sound device, according to alsa, is my Logitech UVC cam.

Aug 23, 2015I'm having some issues with audio crackling/buzzing when turning up the volume, or on songs that have overclipped / overdriven parts, which doesn't happen on Windows (on it those sections are just "dampened"). Is there some certain settings in ALSA that are used to deal with this? Or is it something specific to the driver for the hardware? Speaking of which I'm using some integrated audio which goes by the name of Intel ICH7, and the chip itself is Analog Devices AD1981B.
I'm only using ALSA, without PulseAudio, and I've made sure the volumes both in the media players and under alsamixer aren't turned too high (PCM is at 47% and "Headphones" -- what is "Master" on Windows and on other soundcards under Linux -- is on 22%), so it isn't an issue with the software mixer being turned up too high. Also I'm using a pair of quality headphones (Sony MDRV55) so it's not an issue with the analog audio output either. I've also tried multiple other headphones and the result is the same.

- I have an Laptop (Samsung x20) with integrated intel 915 graphic and an very hight resolution (1400x1050). The monitor's resolution is not listed in the bios of the graphic cart/solution. Because of that I had many problems with my fist installation of suse/openSuse linux.
- Will I have problems to keep my old accounts?
Pro new installation?:
- Sometimes funny system reports (mostly about ICE).
- I have been logged in as root in Gnome (as I had some problems with (no) audio, the digital optical audio out is still not running).
- I think the fist installation was a few years ago maybe I had been to often "bold".

Jun 16, 2010I have a Gigabyte mainbord with an Intel IHC9 sound chip. When I configure it via YAST the test-sound plays fine, and when I issue:
sudo speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
some friendly voice starts speaking as well.
But:
speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
doesn't bring about anything sound-like.

Sep 11, 2011Got this new motherboard and it's running 11.4 of Opensuse and it works great. Even got the DVI working with the monitor with help of instructions I found here. However the sound is poor and the volume controls just as bad. According to the motherboard docs it has THX Tru Studio sound pro, a Intel H67 (B3) chipset. Six audio ports. And the chipset integration by Realtek ALC837. I have tried to find this information in the sound setup with no luck. What was selected was the Intel model (no other specifics was found). According to the Alsamixer it says HDA Intel PCH and the card and chip is set as PulseAudio. What should the sound card be set to other than Intel?

But sound seems to be a litle more dificult. Before I spend some hours, I would like to ask if some had the same problem.

Jan 2, 2011I've installed Suse linux 11.3 (kernel 2.6.34.7-0.5) on my brand new computer HP all in one 5130. Everything worked incredibly well : Wifi, wireless keyboard and mouse, sound, webcam.. There is only one remaining issue : I get a very poor resolution (1280x1024) instead of the 1920x1080 allowed by the screen. Feb 16, 2010I recently updated my computer Using 9.10 and I updated on the 14th. Before the update my sound was working great. No problems, but afterwards my sound is completely gone and under hardware when I click the sound option on the speaker icon I get nothing listed under hardware.
I am using the HP DV2810 US notebook PC. With this being listed as the audio device.

Nov 27, 2010I've recently installed stable (5.x, I think that's lenny...) on a laptop and there's no sound at all.
I had this problem years ago when I last installed linux on here. I solved it then and I thought the solution was unchecking "external amplifier" in alsamixer.
I believe my sound card (Intel 82801DB-ICH4) is detected and the appropriate driver loaded (snd_intel8x0) however, even running speaker-test produces no sound (no error either).
I've read that the intel hda have a model parameter found by greping for codec in /proc/asound/card? but I can't find any information about what codec is used in any path like that. Is there a model parameter for this card too? I'm on a philips freeline X10 laptop.
I ran alsaconf and nothing seemed to change. I tried alsactl init but the command init wasn't found, I suppose that must only be in newer releases. I installed libesd-alsa0 to replace libesd0 but that didn't help (should I revert this file? libesd0 says it's for oss). I also appended "options snd_intel8x0 index=0" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base which got the card registered as the first device.

May 31, 2010I get no sound with kernel 2.6.30-2-686 or 2.6.32-5-686. Works fine in 2.6.26-2-686. Card is found, it accepts streams but plays nothing to either internal speakers or headphones.
