I just installed Ubuntu but couldn't be sure that everything went well. I had some errors with the installation disk (certain fragment not read) but the entire installation went through anyway. Is there anyway I can check if it's alright?

Upgraded using Update Manager from 10.10 to 11.04 on a dual boot, Windows XP/Ubuntu box. Went smooth as silk. Installed grub perfectly. And seemingly contrary to the vocal minority here, I actually like the Unity interface.

Everything seemed to go fine, but after I restarted, it was still on 9.04. I'm not sure where to go from here. All but one of the servers is running Ubuntu Server (i.e. no desktop GUI) so I'll still need a command line solution (which is preferable anyway).
I upgraded the computer of my son from kubuntu 9.10 (I think) to Kubuntu 10 and, once the system rebooted I got the following error message:

I feel a little awkward in this Control Panel: first time user. I installed the latest version of Ubuntu yesterday. All went smooth until I got to installing printer drivers. The setup went online and my system froze...everything froze. I had to do a hard reset. The printer installation went smooth the second time. So far this is the only problem I've had. No details needed. What I was wondering is if there's any way to check if the hard reset did any damage.

How do I check that I have the latest drivers installed for everything in my laptop? Maybe some dependencies (for example, A,B,C...) were not found so that XXXXX was installed without depending on A,B,C.... However, now, I would like XXXXX depend on A,B,C... There are now three systems on it:XP,Ubuntu,Arch.I choose to share the same disk space for swap and /home in the two systems.The installation went well except some problems with Grub, and I managed to made it work. These days,when I start my computer and choose Ubuntu,there always displays a short message about /home disk checking or some problems about fstab. I don't know why. When I login to the system, it works well all the time.

Only problem is that this version now tries to check a couple of hard drives that are external and not attached to the system. They were set up some time ago and the boot will not proceed unless I manually enter "S" to skip. I have removed folders for these disks that were in /media/... but that didn't solve the problem.

Tried upgrading from 8.04 lts to 10.04 and it wouldn't work b/c of too many mods to my 8.04 system? So I tried a fresh install per usb stick. System kept locking up during install, as well as when I run it from the usb, I've since learned. graphics card? I can't log into windows either per the grub loading please wait error 15. I've googled & searched the forums & everything I've tried doesn't work, there were some possible solutions that I don't understand how to do. can't get to a terminal to check or modify anything. Hitting "e" at the boot menu does nothing. I don't know how to do anything from here! Compaq Presario SR5350, 2GB RAM, Dual Core Proc 2150MHz. Dual boot w/Vista, HDD is partitioned separately with Root, Home & swap. Also, sda5 or / has been formatted to ext4, still using grub 1.5.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I closed out X with ctrl+alt+backspace, and when I did startx it showed the Nvidia splash screen like usual, then shows for just a second that loading splash screen that KDE does. Then a little box pops into the top left corner that says "Could not start kdeinit4. Please check installation." I hit okay on the box, it takes me back to the terminal. I try again, same result. I reboot. Same result. So I use xwmconfig to change to enlightenment, which boots up fine. So I ctrl+alt+backspace out and retry KDE again, with the same problem.
This is the first time I've closed out KDE in over a week, so I guess its possible that anything I've done over that time may have somehow broken it. I hadn't noticed any problems til now. The only reason I did it this time was because I'd changed the KDE plasma theme and I wanted to watch the new one boot up. I'm typing on the same computer and the same Slackware installation right now, just running E instead of KDE.
I'm installing and configuring my first server using RackSpace CloudServers running Ubuntu Karmic Koala (9.10) and I'm now installing iRedMail. The installation runs successfully until I recieve this error:

I had clicked on the upgrade notification in Update Manager. After 3 hours of downloading, it stopped abruptly. Now when I try, I get a message saying could not download, check internet connection. I am able to visit other sites, and am actually downloading the CD itself without any problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Wubi installation, and the upgrade to 10.04 froze. I didn't note down the point at which it froze.
When I tried to reboot, I got the grub screen, and when selecting Ubuntu I get lots of text messages scrolling by, but it freezes at battery check.
The machine boots fine into Vista.
Rather than spend a lot of time trying to figure out what went wrong in the upgrade, my inclination is to delete the Wubi installation from within Windows, and then do a fresh install of 10.04 under Wubi. Is this feasible/sensible?
There are a handful of files I would like to salvage from the prior installation, however. Could I do that with a Live CD since the prior installation was under Wubi?
I downloaded Ubuntu 10.4 netbook edition for my toshiba satellite a105 laptop (windows XP) burned it to a CD, restarted my computer with the disc in drive, pressed f12 at the appropriate time, chose to boot from CD. after sitting for a second i get error PXE-e61 media test failure, check cable. and then it boots XP normally. how do i get around this to install linux!
