Ubuntu Installation :: 9.10 Does Not Detect SATA HD For Installation?

I've posted about this problem on a lot of similar threads and found nothing, so I'm creating a new one in the hopes of finally getting some answers.Ubuntu 9.10 never detected my two, IDE-controlled, non-RAID SATA drives. I never bothered to make it until the PATA drive that was running karmic died. Now I'm trying to dual-boot with my XP install on those SATA drives, but I can't get ubuntu to recognize them.Mobo: ASUS a8v-xe, North Bridge VIA K8T890, South Bridge VIA VT8251, Phoenix AwardBIOSHDs: one SATA 3.0 40 gB Maxtor drive, and one SATA 3.0 500 gB WD drive. The drives are not RAID, and the BIOS lists them as IDE-controlled.The install partitioner does not detect any drives. When I boot off of the live CD, neither GParted nor Disk utility detects them.I have tried each of the following, with no luck:
-removing DMRAID, both in Synaptic and Terminal
-installing with 8.10, 9.10 txt-alternate, and 10.04 Beta
-booting in expert mode with txt-alternate CD and disabling RAID

ubuntu 8.04 server can not detect seagate sata hard drive 2tb or sata Lg dvdrw x22 sata drive .is it possible to install it without buying a pci ide sata card?is it possible to get a driver for sata driver and sata drive that can be recognise by ubunto 8.04 server ?or to get the files for 1.44 floppy diskdoes the late edition of unbutu recognise sate hdd and sata cdrw drive automaticly during the installation of the unbutu?

Just what the title says ... I'm trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 and it does not detect either 300G SATA drive in my system. One of them is /home for my non-OS software and the other is used for data storage.
It does detect the drive (SDC) where I have 9.04 installed, but /home is on one of the SATA drives. Where to start? 9.04 works just fine, but I'm running tio problems with FLASH web sites insisting I have to upgrade Flash and Adobe doesn't have anything for 9.04.

I've been struggling a bit with install F11. F10 installs without issue. I have two internal SATA drives, a PATA DVD-ROM and a USB drive. The BIOS recognizes everything. However, when I got to the disk partition utility, Anaconda could never detect one of the SATA devices. I tried swapping cables, ports, etc. No luck. Today, I ran across this Bug thread: [URL] I checked the screens Ctrl-Alt-F1-6. Nothing obvious. But, for fun (from the bug thread) I went to the prompt on 2 and ran:
dmraid -r -E It found an "nvidia" RAID "thingy". Forgive my ignorance on what it really is called or what it does. Anyway, I answered yes to erase the "thingy" and voila. I was able to install F11. Not sure if I made a good title, but I've seen bits and pieces of people having similar problems with F11. And BTW, the drive that had "nvidia" on it was from a machine that was using nvidia hardware RAID 0 - but F10 had no problems with it.

There is a FC4 Server with A8V-MX mobo currently running 2x WD500 SATA drives in RAID1 with a third WD500 SATA drive for data backup. This machine has been running 24/7 since January 2007.The plan is to replace the WD500s with WD 2TB SATA II drives in a similar setup as above. i.e. 2 drives in RAID1 and the third drive for data backup.Definitely looking to do a clean Fedora 14 install on the 2TB but have some questions.
1. Will Fedora 14 detect the VT8251 connected SATA drives?
2. If not, how do I get drivers so it will? (I have the mobo CD with makedisk, but prob for windows)
I already have the 14 x86-64 DVD ready to go, but I am not yet at the site.the BIOS settings are: SATA, RAID or AHCI.

I have an Asus P5K motherboard with an Intel Core 2 Duo 8400. It has 2 SATA hard disks, a 250 GB Seagate and a 500GB Hitachi.
I've been running Fedora 10 x86_64 for 6 months on this computer without problems.
I'm trying to do a new Fedora 11 install on this computer but the installer (Anaconda?) only detects the Hitachi disk.
I've tried to make a new Fedora 10 install to check if it was a media or disk problem and it detects the two hard disks.
I've tried to install it via a Live CD, and the installer only detects the Hitachi disk. The LiveCD detects the two hard disks, I can access it, partition, format, write, but the installer only detects the Hitachi.
I've tried to change from Enhanced SATA (AHCI) to Compatible in BIOS without success and I've changed SATA cables from one disk to the other, changed the disk order and nothing.
Must I enter some boot parameters for Fedora 11? Has the LiveCD installer some options?

i have a strange problem while trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 64bit (also tried with x86 - no luck).My system specs : Motherboard : ASUS P5B VM SE (PATA : JMB368 / Intel ICHHD : Seagate SATA II 3GBit 320 MB (connected in SATA port 1)CPU : Intel Core 2 Quad 2500 GHzI must state i installed Windows 7 without a problem. After that, i tried to install Ubuntu 9.10, first 64bit then x86 but in every case the setup starts, i select language / location etc and when the partitioner starts i see no hard disk drive. Same happens if i try the alternate install cd.
I must mention here that if i click on "Exit" and access Ubuntu Live CD desktopm i can go System >Administrator > Disk Utillity and GParted. In both utillities my HD shows up just fine. So what could be the problem ??? I tried starting ubuntu with pci=nommconf irqpoll -> no luckHere is the lspci output :

I installed maverick meerkat but for some reason there was no install to free space option so I installed onto 32gb of my 170gb windows vista installation. I NEED THAT INSTALLATION. Maverick Meerkat cannot detect my windows installation!

Trying to install SUSE on a perfectly working PC that was running Windows. Blew away all the partitions and formated the drives.When trying to install SUSE, Installer will not detect my two hard disks. Tried with version 10.x, 11.1 and 11.2, without success.My Mobo is a XFX GeForce 8209, and my SATA drives are both Seagates (1x120GB, 1x320GB). I've tried different SATA mode selection (i.e. SATA, AHCI, and RAID) without any success either.I've tried to look for SATA controller drivers for my Mobo, to try to load on Installer startup, but failed there too.

I have a sata card in my RHEL5 server that is not working. It has a 1.5tb hard drive attached to it that I would like to use. It seems that the 2.6.18 kernel did not detect and use it by default. I was able to find some info about the

Recently i upgraded my dvd writer from pata to sata, now i install LG sata dvd writer into my system, now my problem is that its unable to detect in my fedora 8 box , but i can successfully boot fedora 8 from this dvd writer.i have a kernel version 2.6.23. solution for this.

I tried to install 11.04, but the partition tool shows no HDD. If I try to run Ubuntu from the CD, I can explore the HDD but the partition tool in the installation program won't find it. What can be wrong with my Promise SATA controller

I will be installing Ubuntu 11.04 aa a standalone on my 500 GB SATA HDD. I plan to have the following partitions:-
ROOT - 20 GB
BOOT - 50 GB
SWAP - 2 GB
HOME - Remaining space
Will this work properly? I will be downloading many addituonal softwares. Hence BOOT partition is 50 GB.

Is this a known bug? I've not had problem installing 9.04 but 9.10 will not see HDD under partition manager(ubiquity) no matter the F6 boot options or fiddling around with bios. If ubuntu can't see the hdd, I can't install. 785G chipset with SB710 FYI.

I have GRLDR configured in C:oot.ini in Windows XP in the first SATA drive. Now I also have Ubuntu in the second SATA.
I have two options.
1. Switch the SATA drives so that the Ubuntu SATA is the primary boot drive. Use grub to boot Windows XP from there.
2. Boot Win XP which shows the GRUB menu of GRLDR. Choose the ubuntu boot menu so that it can detect the second SATA and boot Ubuntu.
How can I set up the second option ? I know that everyone might recommend option 1 but I want to learn if it is possible or not.

I've been trying for a couple days to install Ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop after using for a couple months on my laptop.My desktop has an Asus M2N32-SLI mobo, with a single 100GB HDD.I currently have Win7 installed and have resized the partitions using gparted from within the Ubuntu LiveCD.When I start the install from the icon on the desktop it goes until it asks where to install and then it doesn't show any drives at all.Most of the things I see pertaining to the nvidia chipset and HDDs talks about RAID. But I am not running any kind of RAID. Just a single HDD.

I have tried to install ubuntu onto my computer using the live CD. It installed fine, and it put grub on sda (which linux sees as my SATA drive). Windows is installed on the ide drive which linux see's as the sdb drive. It was a successful install and in theory it should work, except it find the windows install first so it boots into windows without using grub. I think that linux assigns the drives using the sata first and the ide second, but windows does the opposite and the ide drive is first and the sata is second.
Is it possible to install grub onto the ide drive and get it to dual boot linux or is it possible to use the windows bootloader to recognize the linux install and chainload grub? I am thinking that if I use grub on the ide drive it will throw an error like what happened during my wubi install and it is unable to find the kernel because it is looking for it on sda, but from a windows install it is sdb. I have tried to get the computer to boot from the sata drive, but the mobo is a bit old and I do not think it is supported.

I'm trying to install 10.10 on a sata disk. In terminal, dmesg recognizes the disk at /dev/sda. The installer recognizes it as well, but the partition area is blank and the option are greyed out. How can I go on? BTW, on the disk currently Fedora 14 is (fresh) installed and working fine, but a software install script is written specifically for Ubuntu. That's why I need to change to Ubuntu and it's no hardware problem.

I have a HP PC that I have installed a PCI SATA controller in. The PC doesn't support booting from the card.... So here is what I would like to do. (btw..I'm a seasoned noob on Linux.) I would like to be able to boot ubuntu 10.10 from a usb pin drive 2Gb to a point where the kernal can recognize the SATA drive then start the OS from the SATA HDD.
I can see and access the drive if I boot to a live CD but when I install it won't boot because the PC's bios does not see the PCI card. This has to be possible but my Google foo isn't strong enough to find out how. Would a simple GRUB install on the pen drive work?

I have a Asus P5Q-E with SATA Raid (fake Raid ?) with 2 250Gb disks on Raid 0 and have Windows 7 installed. Freed some space and want to install Ubuntu 11.04 alongside Win7. Install choosing the "alongside" option. Installed...reboot...grub rescue (error no such device). Win7 disk recovery and got access to Win7 again. Where is Ubuntu ? Nowhere... the free space continues free (not partitioned) and found no evidence of ubuntu install. Ok...second try with "something else" option, created /boot /swap and / partitions and installed grub on /boot partition (this time I want to use windows boot to choose...and if it fails the instalation again, at least I got Windows). Installed...reboot...grub rescue.
Again, the free space wasn't partitioned and the installer spend some time doing something but there is no evidence of ubuntu install. Also grub seems to be installed on first disk (even when I choose /boot as device bootloader installation) - I've used EasyBCD to create an entry on win bootloader and when I choose that got grub> (not grub rescue>).
Can Ubuntu be installed on such conditions ?

I keep getting this error in my log viewer every 2 seconds: Code: ata4: limiting SATA link speed to 1.5 Gbps I have a dual boot SSD and I have run many SMART tests in windows and linux, (using smartmon tools and the disk utility) and the reports are all 100% healthy..... My research shows that this error represents one of the following:
1. Problem with SATA controller
2. Changing BIOS to allow SATA
3. Changing SATA mode to PATA or AHCI
4. Replacing the SATA cable
5. Allowing the SSD to run at SATA II speeds, i.e. 3 Gbps
- Does anyone know how to try number 5, i.e. allowing the SSD to run at SATA II speeds? I am lost here and this problem has caused my machine to crash twice when watching a movie in linux/ ubuntu. (It is worth noting that the crashes have only occurred in linux and I have never had an issue in windows, so it does seem to be a linux setting somewhere, hence why I think it is a "allowing SATA II to run at correct speeds issue")

i installed latest ubuntu server 9.10 on my mini itx board which i have 1 4gb IDE disk and 4x2TB sata disks attached no i want those disks to automount on startup is there a way without modifiying fstab? the thing is, i want to expand the storage over time (next hard disks in a few months) and maybe a second mainboard in a year so i need a simple way to mount everything without being to mainboard specific like doing fstab entries

I'm trying to install 10.04b2 x64 on my new rig and for some reason the live cd can't detect both of my 1TB Sata 3 drives. There is no Raid and the bios has them flagged as IDE. I have also tried adding pci=nomsi to the boot string to no avail.

I went to install Ubuntu 10.04 on my home pc last night but I couldn't. The installers could not see my raid and even though I wished to install to a seperate HDD windows is installed to my raid. The windows MBR always overtook the Grub and whenever I start grub up it cannot find an OS or Kernel.
I have got an ASUS Rampage 3 Extreme [URL] and on it there are two 6.0 sata Marvell connectors: [URL]
In these two Marvell connectors are two WD velociraptor 10,00 rpm Raid 0 drives. On these two drives is installed Windows 7. The ubuntu installer cannot seem to see the raid pair and so does not install Grub correctly.

Install of 10.4 64 bit not showing choice of sata drives on install. W 7 on sata a drive, SUSE 11 on sata b drive. Need to load Ubuntu 10.4 on drive b, but not given choice of drives on the install. Only "clear drive" listed on the install window.
This is not the case on 32 bit, a graph with drives listed. W7 a runs Adobe CS5, the Ubuntu 10.4 has excellent font, type display on the live cd.

I've been trying to find a solution, I've looked everywhere but no luck. I have a 1TB drive, checked the cable & it's connected to motherboard SATA0. That motherboard is dual booting fine (windows7 + Ubuntu 10.04).
My problem is when I connect the other SATA drive, SATA1. Upon restarting my machine, nothing happens & I dont see any boot menu (grub).
I've checked the bios settings, boot drives are in order:
CD-ROM
SATA0
SATA1
To check if the second drive has physical errors, I've connected it as SATA0 (alone) & installed successfully windows & ubuntu 10.04. I formatted it & installed ubuntu studio. The drive is working fine. So I formatted it again, & now it's not connected.
How can I make it work? I want SATA0 to have both windws/ubuntu, & the SATA1 to be just a data storage drive.
