Now what I want to do is to create a domain and directory server similar in function to Windows Server w/ AD and join my other machines to the domain, but am not sure where to start. I already have file shares with Samba but now I want to setup a domain.

Aug 11, 2010I'm trying to set up an mail filter for our domain. At the moment we're using ClearOS as the filter, works OK but I still get something through and the blacklist and whitelist doesn't seem to work. I was hoping to set up a mail filter on my own, using Spamassassin and/or something else. It seems I have to buy subscription at ClearOS to make it update better or something. I might just do that, it's just tempting to find a way to do it on "my own". I tried to follow these instructions but I don't seem to go anywhere... ...I began with setting up the base server as it is shown there. I've setup quite a few Linux servers, mainly as firewall/gateway kind of things but also some DNS servers, web servers and so on.
I have one mail server and the mail filter is supposed to be on the outside to filter mail before it hits the mail server.

The server is behind a router with firewall i can connect to it using the external IP address but i like to use the two domain names if that is possible.

However, the only way I can access the forum software is if I type in my IP address. How do I set up my named.conf to get the IP address to redirect to a domain? I already have my resolv.conf configured to allocate a domain to the IP address, but testing the ping of the site returns a "No such domain" error.

Here my static ip is 24.10.202.144. I registered a domain through [URL]... It appears that I have the domain working to forward to my ip. However, I am still getting this output file from apache.

I have tested the domain name across a few different computers on different ips. It works appropriately. I just want to make sure I have it set correctly on the (apache) server side of things. Then I can get more into Zone Editing etc.

Mar 14, 2010I ended up setting up a basic linux file server as a pdc for that office. Our main office is a windows 2000 ads domain. The two offices are connected with a vpn. I only have two users at the new location so I simply have the linux and samba usernames/passwords setup manually. I would like to know if it is possible to setup a domain trust between the two sites so I don't have to create a username/password in the remote site for every user at the main office to access. I did some searching but came up empty.

What confuses me is when I create a new domain on my server it gives the new domain it's own nameservers (ns1.thenewdomain.co.uk etc) do I need to change these records so they use the nameservers I created earlier? I have a Linux machine which is on my network but not on my domain. I have configured SAMBA FILESERVER for file sharing purpose. I have a Windows XP PC which is on the domain(windows server) that I am trying to connect to a share on the Linux box. I supply my credentials but regardless of which login I use I always get Logon Failure. I have created an account on the Linux machine with the same user name and password as my domain account but so far no luck. Can I connect from a domain PC to a non-domain Linux box? Is there something else I should be checking?

Dec 30, 2010I'm working for a smallish non-profit that has gone through some recent growing pains. We have two sites that are currently without a domain controller, and no money for MS licenses, so I was thinking of trying to add a couple of additional Linux machines (we already run Linux for web services internally, and I've set up a test case previously to see if I could get a server to join the domain, which was a success) and was trying to find out if I can get them to act as Domain Controllers without replacing the domain. The main issue that I'm having at those locations is drive mappings are not happening correctly against our DFS file servers. The one other location that had this issue had it go away when we added a local DC. The domain is a Server 2008 domain.

Feb 18, 2010In the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

Feb 23, 2010I've recently installed noip2 which installed fine. Except when I try connect to my noip domain it sends me to my router login page and won't let me access my ubuntu box. How can I set my noip domain so when I connect, it will allow me to access SSH, sabnzbd, etc., instead of forwarding me to the router login page. I'm sensing that I may have to set the ubuntu box to a static ip and forward the various ports of SSH, sabnzbd, etc to it. Would this be correct?

Jan 19, 2010We are trying to set up a NIS server on a CentOS system. We need to have a NIS server which can provide NIS authentication to a couple of clients. We are practically new to all this stuff.
Just googled to find some ideas about installing ypserv and ypbind and portmapper. We did all that and also started them successfully. But now the clients are not able to join to the NIS domain . The error log states "YP_DOMAIN NOT BOUND".
I guess we have not entered the /etc/yp.conf, /etc/hosts files properly. Please let us know the detailed steps to setup a NIS server .
Also, please let us know what entries should go into the different /etc/<file_names>? What is meant by HOSTNAME in the /etc/hosts file?
Is there any other files which need to be changed? Are we missing any steps?
Also to add-on, while executing the ypinit command we faced the following error:
