Server :: Bind9 - Setup To Get IP Address To Redirect To Domain
Oct 31, 2010
Location and syntax of named.conf in Ubuntu's version of BIND 9. I already have an HTTP server (in the form of Apache) along with forum software set up on my Acer netbook. However, the only way I can access the forum software is if I type in my IP address. How do I set up my named.conf to get the IP address to redirect to a domain? I already have my resolv.conf configured to allocate a domain to the IP address, but testing the ping of the site returns a "No such domain" error.

Recently I need to redirect domain name that is a mobile minisite called m.domain.com/abc to external hosting web server ip with like 123.123.123.123/abc in our apache web server. This website is hosting in external. Our apache is 2.0.53, because I am new in Linux, so I don't know how to work out this. I want to know that how can I achieve this? Is it just use the DNS to map it or need to config our apache to work out this? I really urgent to know what can I do for it?

especially to ubuntu server 8.04 because it doesnt use a GUI. Now my question is on how to insert IP address in configuring DNS server using bind9. Actually i'm using this guideBut i m not sure on how to insert IP addresses on the primary master and secondary master. Should I insert the Ip address that i found when i type ifconfig ? or Should I assign a new IP address.I have set up a webserver, DNS server, File server and mail server on a virtual box. For now, at first, im working with the DNS server or should I work with the web server first?what should I do?

the traffic shall all go through the dynamic one. i've got a domain name registered with the VPS also. nameservers are configured.
is there any setup required on my local (dynamic ip) apache settings for using the name? and if i stop the service, will it still work? do i have to setup a webserver on the VPS for it? none running yet.

I'm trying to set up a bind9 server for my home network, I have all my IPs set to 10.0.0.X. I would like the forward and reverse to be simply "machinename", not "machinename.domain.com", as I don't want to type a domain everytime.
In my named.conf
zone "net.local" in {
type master;
file "/etc/bind/net.local.ns";
allow-update { none; };
[Code]...

I operate a home network with Ubuntu Server 10.04 with services including DHCP3, Bind9, Apache, and so on. Since I host several dozen websites from home, I have to run Bind DNS. All Ubuntu boxes on my network operate fine. However, all Windows boxes on the network seem to forget to look internally for DNS after a couple of page loads on my internal sites. The network settings still indicate that my internal domain name server is the first lookup and everything seems normal.

I wish to intercept/forward emails that is sent to one user on multi user mail server.I only want email from one specific address or group,to be redirected and it will be redirected to another user on same server.The email should not arrive in original users inbox.".forward" file can not give me such solution,because ".forward" file will forward all mails to another specific mail id,which i don't want. I want only specific users mails onto another local user.Is this possible in sendmail?Anybody have clear idea of "virtusetable" & "aliases" file?

So I'm looking to host potentialy three different...sites...I want to call them from the same machine. One is a radio station and the other 2 are just straight websites. So I wanted to know if I had to use different machines to accomplish this or can I alter maybe the http conf file or what. I did find this in the forums but wasn't quite sure if this applied to me. What primary and secondary DNS settings I need to give when I have a dedicated server with static single IP address with BIND installed.

I have 4 servers that I got at auction and they now have ubuntu running with gnome interface.I installed apache2 and tried to edit the conf file but i am not sure if it is a router issue a dns or the config.I am trying to figure out how to set the server to hold the domain from a dynamic ip address and also how to create some test page to see if i can acess from the internet.
I have purchased some books on the command lines and how ubuntu works, I am understanding it so far, but dont know how to have a directory for the dns request to point to for the sitewhat i want to do with the servers...voipeb server for about 4 websites - one is for a volunteer rescue organization, another for a test auction site and 2 portfolio sitesremote file access- if possiblealso on a side note, is it possible to have a message relay from one cell phone or transmit to the server and have it send sms message to cell phones? - this will be used for the rescue group as well.

I'm trying to set up an mail filter for our domain. At the moment we're using ClearOS as the filter, works OK but I still get something through and the blacklist and whitelist doesn't seem to work. I was hoping to set up a mail filter on my own, using Spamassassin and/or something else. It seems I have to buy subscription at ClearOS to make it update better or something. I might just do that, it's just tempting to find a way to do it on "my own". I tried to follow these instructions but I don't seem to go anywhere... ...I began with setting up the base server as it is shown there. I've setup quite a few Linux servers, mainly as firewall/gateway kind of things but also some DNS servers, web servers and so on.
I have one mail server and the mail filter is supposed to be on the outside to filter mail before it hits the mail server.

I have a linux test machine which I would like to run a copy of a production webserver. This is a legacy application which does not use a property file for its server name. Throughout the application, the server name is hardcoded (example: open connection to myServer.myCompany.com).
Is there any linux trick which I can use to redirect all requests for a certain host back to localhost? I know in Windows that I can add an entry to the hosts file and have it redirect back to localhost. How do I do this in linux?

when i try to set up bind9 to resolve the top level of the name it cant do it. for current sake of arguement i have 4 servers on the network
192.168.0.200 diana.undernets.lan
192.168.0.201 jen.undernets.lan
192.168.0.202 amanda.undernets.lan
192.168.0.203 alex.undernets.lan
those are the IP addresses of the servers and their respective hostnames
so if i send a request for anything to just undernets.lan it will fail because there is no record for that. so i added this to the bottom of the zone record
Code:
IN CNAME amanda
thinking that a blank would refer to the top of the zone
here is my named.conf.local which is called in my named.conf
Code:
zone "undernets.lan" {
type master;
file "/etc/bind/undernets.db";
};
zone "0.168.192.in-addr.arpa" {
[Code]....
i want to be able to lookup undernets.lan and it give me the IP address of amanda.undernets.lan

I have setup a home based web server to host a photo blog for myself and my friends. I will be running wordpress and possibly a phpbb3 forum. I'd like to open this to discuss server administration, server setup, and server maintenance. However, I have a pretty good start on all of those but serving a domain name to my static ip. Here my static ip is 24.10.202.144. I registered a domain through [URL]... It appears that I have the domain working to forward to my ip. However, I am still getting this output file from apache.
[code]...
I have tested the domain name across a few different computers on different ips. It works appropriately. I just want to make sure I have it set correctly on the (apache) server side of things. Then I can get more into Zone Editing etc.

What do I edit to create the server accessible by other computers connected to same wifi connection. 2b. If another computer can connect to this site now, can we create a virtual desktop setting in which workers can work as if they have their own partition on the server to work on and upload work onto the development server.

I have set up a couple of postfix servers for my domains, but the only thing I am missing now is this: How to block the public sending mail from my email to my email? I have managed it with SPF, but surely there must be a better way, that returns "relay not allowed" to the client. The SPF method costs too much, since it must make a dns request for each mail. So far, I have not gotten many of these mails, unless when testing my mailserver, but as I see it, anyone should not be allowed to send mail from abuse@mydomain.com to abuse@mydomain.com.
Somebody must have thought about this a long time ago, and there is simply that little line in main.conf that I'm missing.. My setup is this (virtual): I have a primary mx, with postfix, courier IMAP/POP3 server, a user database, and sasl via saslauthd. I also have a secondary mail server (backup mx) with no sasl auth, but with a copy of the mail users in the virtual tables, but added as relay_* users instead.
Spamassassin and SPF testing is replicated too, so most of the stuff should work, but I simply cannot find a setting in Postfix that denies someone to mail FROM my address TO my address. When mailing from my address and out in the open, they are required to authenticate, but not when using one of my my domain addresses, and also targeting my domain addresses.
As said, It is possible with a strict SPF setting, but that is at a cost for every lookup. It would be quicker for postfix to lookup the sender and the recipient in the relay/virtual tables, and deny if both addresses were in the recipient tables, and sender is not authenticated.

I'm trying to figure out how to access the local part and the domain part of an email address in postfix's main.cf. For example, myname@mydomain.net has myname as the local part and mydomain.net as the domain part.I get the whole email address with %s. I want to speed up the lookups by writing better database queries.I've had no luck finding this in the otherwise well documented postfix.

I ended up setting up a basic linux file server as a pdc for that office. Our main office is a windows 2000 ads domain. The two offices are connected with a vpn. I only have two users at the new location so I simply have the linux and samba usernames/passwords setup manually. I would like to know if it is possible to setup a domain trust between the two sites so I don't have to create a username/password in the remote site for every user at the main office to access. I did some searching but came up empty.
