iam using centos5.2.configured qmail,vpopmail. while adding domain form vadddomain<domain.co.in> At first time domain folder get created in domains directory.and also postmaster user also get created by default.And also in mysql. Now the problem is after some times or rebooting system domain get erased automatic.also in /var/qmail/users/assign file domain name get erased.

What confuses me is when I create a new domain on my server it gives the new domain it's own nameservers (ns1.thenewdomain.co.uk etc) do I need to change these records so they use the nameservers I created earlier? If I do? Which particular records should I change? I'm running a Unix virtual server with a Plesk control panel.

I have a Linux machine which is on my network but not on my domain. I have configured SAMBA FILESERVER for file sharing purpose. I have a Windows XP PC which is on the domain(windows server) that I am trying to connect to a share on the Linux box. I supply my credentials but regardless of which login I use I always get Logon Failure. I have created an account on the Linux machine with the same user name and password as my domain account but so far no luck. Can I connect from a domain PC to a non-domain Linux box? Is there something else I should be checking?
I'm working for a smallish non-profit that has gone through some recent growing pains. We have two sites that are currently without a domain controller, and no money for MS licenses, so I was thinking of trying to add a couple of additional Linux machines (we already run Linux for web services internally, and I've set up a test case previously to see if I could get a server to join the domain, which was a success) and was trying to find out if I can get them to act as Domain Controllers without replacing the domain. The main issue that I'm having at those locations is drive mappings are not happening correctly against our DFS file servers. The one other location that had this issue had it go away when we added a local DC. The domain is a Server 2008 domain.

In the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

I am using bind9 and cant "catch or grab or whatever you want to call it", my domain name. I used go daddy to create my domain and I created my own name servers with the ip's I use on my VPS. I have been trying to go at this all week, all i need to do is get my domain running and then my site will be good to go cause I already have everything else running smoothe it seems. any help at all is very appreciated. I dont know what kind of info you need from me so ask whatever you need to. I am going to use a fake domain and ip in on here just to protect myself.Also I have tried many tutorials and have been searching around the net and forums with no luck.

I've looked at a heap of hosting sites, but they son't seem to allow you to specify your own IP address that you already have. Also, I'm not sure about what, if any kind of DNS software I would then have to run on my server. At this stage I'm only doing preliminary research about it I guess.

I have fedora 8 server running httpd service (I'm guessing its apache). I want to create a sub domain for my web site for development purposes. I located the files of the site but I can't located the httpd configuration file that referring to that site. I checked the default file under etchttpdconfhttpd.conf. I saw the <virtualhost> section, which reffering to the /var/www/html, but my files are not there. There is a file index.php which have only <? echo "" ?>. View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a server with a static IP that I use as a sendmail server. The problem is that port 25 is exposed. As a result, anybody can login to the SMTP server and send mail from my domain as a user that does not exist as well as email from other non-existant domains. I'm sure there are sendmail options that I can enable to do some checks, like if the user exists on that server or if the domain is the same on the server, etc. I was wondering if you guys can mention a few that I can add to my sendmail.mc file?
I have thought about auth login, the problem is if auth login is on my public port then I won't be able to receive email from gmail because it would be unauthenticated. Also, I only have 1 mail server. I know the ideal solution is to have 2 mail servers. One for outgoing mail/internal mail server where you can enable auth login and the other for incoming mail which just acts as the relay to the internal mail server. That way spammers can't login to send mail out. That's another question I had, how do I configure sendmail to only send email out/in?
Anyhow, so I have to make do with 1 mail server for now. So I decided to add a few rules on iptables. I grabbed the IP range that gmail uses when I receive mail from then and added it to my iptables with the following command.

i have registered two domain names that i want to use to connect to my ubuntu server. I was wondering how to do this i was looking at bind9 but that didn't work that great. The server is behind a router with firewall i can connect to it using the external IP address but i like to use the two domain names if that is possible.

I was just curious how Ubuntu interacts with domain users when on the windows domain. For example, if we have an Ubuntu machine on the Windows domain with a local user "administrator" and that's it, would any domain users be able to log into the Ubuntu work station, similar to how it is on Windows?

At the school i work in i have a server2k3 server that provides a domain to all the windows clients, aswell as a fedora server that acts as an imaging machine and webserver.
Im rather concious of the fact that if for any reason the Server2k3 server was to die there is no backup of active directory, or anything that can take its place whilst a replacement is found.
So is it possible to use a fedora machine with samba as a secondary domain controller? so it can be used as a login server, and has a copy of AD.

View 4 Replies View RelatedHeI'm currently having a problem with a Debian 6 server. The server has a subdomain given from the hosting company. On the machine we'll be hosting a domain with a different name from the hosting's. The domain is pointing to the server's IP address but if you try to ping it will not return any replies. If you ping the machine's subdomain it returns ping. At first I though it's a firewall blocking the ICMP but that's not the case. I've installed apache and tried to open the domain from a browser - the result:
1. The subdomain and the IP address works perfect
2. The desired domain doesn't open.
I'm coming from Slackware and most probably I'm missing something. It may be something really little that I'm missing. What may be the problem? Is it coming from debian or there's a firewall blocking the domain?

I assume this is a very basic/beginner question, but it has been puzzling me for a little while. Here goes: If I register a new domain (let's mydomain123.com) and I want to use my own DNS server. After registering the domain name, at the registrar, I want to set my DNS servers to be:

My question is, how does the registrar (or root name servers) know what the ip address of ns1.mydomain123.com is? I will obviously set the IP address on my dns servers. At first glance, I would think this is impossible, since ns1 is just a record inside the specific domain that it is authoritative for. However, I have seen several examples companies who have a setup exactly like this.
No idea whats going on here I host a couple of domains. Recently I changed ISP and had a change of IP address. I changed my zone files to the new address and updated my nameservers to the ones given by the new ISP and now, my main domain wont work, I can however, receive mail, checking using DNS quick check works and other domains are fine. I'm using OPENSUSE 11

i have two domains(eg. my example.com and my domian.com) in my server for single static ip.i have also configured ftp server for those two domains.And also seperate ftp users for my domain.com and my example.com.

i can able to access the ftp server from client pcs. my problem is when i tried to access ftp server by

but i can able to login through that ftp user and the location is myexample.com location.
but i don't want this to happen .
