I am starting to develop websites in Ubuntu. I have set up apache server, php, mysql, and phpmyadmin. I have also set up a local domain for the site. Everything works great with html files, but how do I get Firefox to open .php files instead of trying to save them.
View 2 RepliesIn the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

I have run a ping, and it reached it just fine.

The server is behind a router with firewall i can connect to it using the external IP address but i like to use the two domain names if that is possible.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Ubuntu Server that is correctly set up and has been working for awhile. It currently has a domain (Registered by GoDaddy) and it is used as the main. I just bought another domain (From GoDaddy) and I want it to connect to the same server but a different section to host a second site completely separate from the first.
So this is how I want it to be setup:
Domain1 = /var/www/
Domain2 = /var/www/website2
When I put Domain1 in the url like www.domain1.com it will connect to /var/www/
When I put Domain2 in the url like www.domain2.com it will connect to /var/www/website2
I ended up setting up a basic linux file server as a pdc for that office. Our main office is a windows 2000 ads domain. The two offices are connected with a vpn. I only have two users at the new location so I simply have the linux and samba usernames/passwords setup manually. I would like to know if it is possible to setup a domain trust between the two sites so I don't have to create a username/password in the remote site for every user at the main office to access. I did some searching but came up empty.

My next task on the to-do list is enabling ssl on my mail server. I have the ssl setup with an automatic redirect from http to https.It is working fine with a minor issue.I have 2 domains and several subdomains on the server. Since I have enabled ssl, it seems for any of the domain/subdomain links I type in with a https://, it takes me to my mail server site. How can I have it set to only one secure link to my mail server?

This network has access to Internet, but the company's site does not have a public address. It is like "http:e-learning.local". I can access this site from any windows machine, but I can't access it from ubuntu. Only if I use IP address, I can access it. However, I have normal access to other sites on the Internet.
Do you have any suggestion how to solve this problem?
I would like to replace my aging Freenas box with a CentOS based NAS. I would like it to have the following features:
- SAMBA with Web admin
- BIND with Web admin
- Nice to have would be native AFP support for my MAC
Question 1: Is SWAT still the current Web-based config tool for SAMBA or is there something newer?
Question 2: Is there a decent, reliable, web front end for BIND?
Question 3: Is there a current AFP guide for CentOS, everything I am finding via Google is years old.
I would also like to build a second server that I would host off-site to sync my data to.
- I was thinking OpenVPN for the link between the servers. The "remote" NAS will have to be the one initiating the connection.
Question 4: Is OpenVPN the way to go or is there something better? (I need bidirectional communications)
Question 5: Is rsync still the way to go for the data sync or is there something newer which would be lighter and/or faster?
Just need some "current" advice overall - I think the last SAMBA box I built was 4-5 years ago so what I learned then may not be applicable today.

How do we do the same thing on Ubuntu 9.04?
I used Likewise (specifically, likewise-open-gui) to add my computer to the Windows domain at work. I can log into the computer with my domain credentials.
Until I reboot.
If the computer ever shuts down fully, I get an authentication failure when I log in using the domain account. But if I log in using a local account and run likewise-open-gui again from there, everything works. I don't have to rejoin the domain, only launch the program, close it, and log out of the local account. This seems to allow me to log into the domain afterward.
Is there something in specific that I can add to my startup scripts that will connect me to the domain before login?

View 5 Replies View Relatedever since upgrading from karmic to lucid, i cannot ping fqdn hosts in .local tlds. nslookup & dig work, but most other utilities fail (ping, traceroute, etc...). i know .local is an invalid tld, but apple seems to have made it a defacto standard on private networks, so i'd imagine somebody else has seen this issue before... is there a simple fix that doesn't require managing hosts file entries on a bunch of systems?

I have public IP and registered domain mydomain.eu. On domain provider DNS servers, mydomain.eu points to my machine called solis (10.10.10.1; this is gateway, dhcp and dns server; eth0 is outsite, eth1 inside my network). I have also laptop which is connected to eth1 through wireless AP. From laptop and solis I have access to outside and inside network without problems. Of course my dream is to have access to solis from local network using name 'mydomain.eu' but not fully name 'solis.mydomain.eu'.

The problem is that whenever I try to access the domain from my local network the lookup for the domain fails, as it cannot find the server from the local network. What's the most painless solution to this problem?

I have set up a user called www and given it FTP access to its home area (/home/www) using vsftpd. I then edited /etc/apache2/sites-available/default and set the DocumentRoot directive to /home/www. When I made a test index.html file in that directory it worked fine. Then I FTP'd to the server (as www) from another PC and uploaded the site files. Now when I try to access the site I get an error 403 (forbidden).Obviously I'm doing something wrong here but I'm not sure what. What should I do to fix this.

1.) I want to be able to remotely backup data to my server.
2.) I want to be able to pass traffic through it and use it as a proxy.

I want a low power reliable machine that will only be used as a remote solution. I won't be hooking up a monitor to it (that is, after I set it up).
It will be on 24/7 for easy access.
I will be accessing this server from a Windows 7 based machine.
I do not mind at all installing Linux on my server, but I am not an experienced coder so I will need software with a GUI that can help me set this all up.
I'm not to sure this is the place I should post this, but couldn't find any place for it to fit. So here is the deal..I am running 10.10 with the standard LAMP setup. I am running a drupal 7 site no problems. What I need to do is run a multi site sub directory. (domain.com/newsite). So far the best I can do is get a directory index of the second site (domain.com/newsite), but cant run the installer. (I did the symbolic link to the doc root of the drupal install.)If I type in the url domain.com/newsite/install.php I get not found. I placed an index.html test page and it renders fine. I think I'm close but just not there yet.
Any ideas from anyone? I can get Sobdomains to work fine on a test mache, but sadly I need the domain/site to work due to lack of DNS support at the moment. I tried to get some info from the drupal forum, but everything always points to subdomin setups. I also posted over there, but it seems like the forums have very little support and are a bit on the slow side.

I'm trying to set up a *simple* MTA in my local network. The only thing it should be able to do is send system / daemon mails to admin@mylocaldomain. but at the moment I'm pretty much overwhelmed by everything i *should* know in order to set up this MTA
my infrastructure:
- servers:
* test01.mylocaldomain --> should send mails (with exim) to admin@mylocaldomain
* dns01.mylocaldomain --> dns-server
* mail.mylocaldomain --> mail-server (postfix / iredmail package)
I configured exim to be in "internet"-mode. now i have a variety of errors I can choose from (and a variety of solutions that i don't like ).. my test is always an email from test01.mylocaldomain:

- after running the config, i get the error: admin@mylocaldomain: all relevant MX records point to non-existent hosts --> google says, edit and udpate update-exim4.conf.conf --> dc_relay_domains='mylocaldomain' --> but this exim installation should not be a relay at all. it should only be able to SEND (to this domain), not deliver it. or do i get something wrong?
- after i added dc_relay_domains='mylocaldomain', i get --> SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<admin@mylocaldomain>: host mail.mylocaldomain [192.168.x.x]: 550 5.1.1 <root@mylocaldomain>: Sender address rejected: User unknown in virtual mailbox table --> but i don't want to create an account on the mailserver for the SENDER...

I'm trying to set up a framework where people connected to same wifi connection can enter a local site for developing purposes.I want them to be thrown to a local copy (development copy of the site) when they type in www.development.loc in the browser.I don't want to connect the world, only people connected to my wifi.Anyone willing to help by stating what I need to edit to :1. I still can't find my domain I configured cant ping on other machines on the LAN but can actually ping on any other website on the internet even though name server is configured to point to local machine..... I dont understand what I'm doing wrong.
