In the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

Problem is my ISP will not let me have a static IP unless I upgrade to a Business class service which is just too expensive for home use. As a work around I use a DDNS service from Dlink, which is actually done via DYNDNS.com. So essentially I have mydomain.dlinkddns.com point to my Dynamic WAN IP, and it is all automatically managed by my router.
Is there a way I can haveoint to my mail server without it being a subdomain of my DDNS om)? In other words I would like to have the email someone@mymaildomain.com and not have it be dlinkddns.com or something like that. I know someone has done it, I just have never done it. Not quite sure what to google to find the answer myself either.
I've got a home server running Ubuntu Server 9.04 and several machines running Ubuntu Desktop (9.04 and 8.04) and Windows (XP, Vista and 7). Now what I want to do is to create a domain and directory server similar in function to Windows Server w/ AD and join my other machines to the domain, but am not sure where to start. What confuses me is when I create a new domain on my server it gives the new domain it's own nameservers (ns1.thenewdomain.co.uk etc) do I need to change these records so they use the nameservers I created earlier? I have a Linux machine which is on my network but not on my domain. I have configured SAMBA FILESERVER for file sharing purpose. I have a Windows XP PC which is on the domain(windows server) that I am trying to connect to a share on the Linux box. I supply my credentials but regardless of which login I use I always get Logon Failure. I have created an account on the Linux machine with the same user name and password as my domain account but so far no luck. Can I connect from a domain PC to a non-domain Linux box? Is there something else I should be checking?
I'm working for a smallish non-profit that has gone through some recent growing pains. We have two sites that are currently without a domain controller, and no money for MS licenses, so I was thinking of trying to add a couple of additional Linux machines (we already run Linux for web services internally, and I've set up a test case previously to see if I could get a server to join the domain, which was a success) and was trying to find out if I can get them to act as Domain Controllers without replacing the domain. The main issue that I'm having at those locations is drive mappings are not happening correctly against our DFS file servers. The one other location that had this issue had it go away when we added a local DC. The domain is a Server 2008 domain.

I have a mail server taking care of mail for my 4 domains; the first is used for virtually all mail, the second rarely used anymore, the third is virtually 100% spam the past year(?), and the fourth isn't in use (and never has been, so no spam). What I'd like to do is to reject all mail to the third domain. Right now this is what I get (I tried to send to a nonexistent address from gmail):

Since my username (xyz@) is the same for all domains, I could (or so I hope) change the reject message to give a hint to replace [URL] with [URL] and try again.
I've setup postfix using mysql tables and all works except for sending to an alias. The mysql logs show that postfix is only looking at the mailbox table for where to deliver the mail for the alias. However it is not looking in the virtual alias maps table. There are no complaints from postfix on startup to indicate that there is anything wrong, and if I send to a virtual domain listed as a relay on the server it does look up the virtual alias table... even though the domain is not hosted on the server....
So the question I have is where to look next? The mysql log shows the expected lookups from postfix EXCEPT for the virtual alias map queries.... why would it not be checking the table? Since it is not looking up the virtual alias it bounces the addresses back to sender complaining that the user doesn't exist... It does deliver to a virtal mailbox, however again it never checks the vitual alias table.... so it only delivers since there's a mailbox for it rather than needing an alias...
I was wondering if there is any way to enable an MS Windows client that is otherwise unable of joining a domain to join a domain controlled by (open)SUSE? Is that inability only for joining a Windows based domain but a client that runs XP Home Edition or similar domain- incapable version of Windows could join a domain if it was controlled by Linux?Pardon my newbie style, but answer doesn't have to be detailed step-by-step, just yes/no answer with some pointers would do. I was just curious how Ubuntu interacts with domain users when on the windows domain. For example, if we have an Ubuntu machine on the Windows domain with a local user "administrator" and that's it, would any domain users be able to log into the Ubuntu work station, similar to how it is on Windows?
when a remove a user from the system using the domain userdel guest the user gets removed but the /home/guest doesn't get removed so i remove it by command rm -rf /home/guest then i recreate the user by giving in the command useradd guest now it gives the error mailbox file already exists what does it mean when it says so though this command creates the user.

Im rather concious of the fact that if for any reason the Server2k3 server was to die there is no backup of active directory, or anything that can take its place whilst a replacement is found.
So is it possible to use a fedora machine with samba as a secondary domain controller? so it can be used as a login server, and has a copy of AD.

The task I'm trying to accomplish now is to automatically connect user folder from DFS server when domain user logs in. I created a simple (contains one line ) script to do that:

I need to run this script with root privileges and parameter $(whoami) after domain user logs in so it results in command:

What should I do? Is there any other better way (seems little unsecure like this)? I was thinking about adding this into /etc/fstab file, but don't know how to tell it what is the actual name of logged in user... I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 x32.

Not use su, sudo.
