Before upgrading to 10.04 from 9.10, I had sound issues after resuming from suspend (I had no audio at all). I found a script that solved the sound issue. My problem now is, with 10.04, the script keeps my laptop from going into suspend. I haven't been able to find anything to resolve this issue in 10.04. Any help as to why/how to resolve?
View 4 RepliesWhen I suspend my computer, everything resumes fine... but the sound. The sound actually still works for the internal speakers, but not anymore for any jack-plugged headset or speakers. If I reboot, it works again. I also see nothing in the logs (dmesg, /var/log/messages).
These two commands return the same thing before and after resuming:

As it was recommended a lot when I googled it, but it seems that the alsa bin/script is not available on debian. It tells me repeatedly to install alsa-base, which was already installed. The following commands have been run one after the other, in that order:

How to prevent me from rebooting each time I need sound after suspending my computer?
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04. What I want to do is have the xboxdrv (xbox userspace driver) run after I resume from suspend. I created a script for it to run at boot and that worked out fine but I can't figure out how to enable it after I resume. I found something that described how to resume a module from suspend and it was to be placed in /etc/pm/sleep.d. That script looked like this:

That was for a wireless module to load after a suspend. What I did was replaced /sbin/modprobe ath_pci with the location of the xboxdrv at /usr/bin xboxdrv; unfortunately, that didn't work. I actually tried pointing it to my script that runs at boot but that also didn't work. Is there anyway I can just write a simple script that will run after I resume?
edit: Okay I also tried putting a script in another place at /etc/acpi/resume.d/xbox.sh; I had to create the folder resume.d. There I put the same script that I use at startup (which works fine) and it still won't work.
The machine completely locks up (Caps lock LED doesn't even light up). I've followed the wiki, but the following command did not yield any information. dmesg | grep "hash matches" after echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_trace
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been away from Kubuntu for a while but came back when Kubuntu 11.04 was released because it's awesome. I have a newer laptop since then, a Latitude E6410 with Intel graphics and 8GB of RAM. Everything works great, except......Sometimes when I resume from suspend to RAM, the screen flickers with thin white lines across the screen. I can switch to a tty and reboot it from there, but I'm unable to use KDE until I reboot. A lot of times resuming from suspend works without issue, but sometimes this problem occurs. I haven't figured out exactly what triggers it. In fact, the most recent time it happened, I didn't even have an application open.
I would like to figure this out because I use suspend a lot. I rarely turn off my laptop unless an update requires me to. I prefer to be able to close my lid and resume whatever I was working on later, but with this glitch I cannot trust it to do that.
Touchpad on my laptop does not works after I resume it from hibernation/suspend. I have FC9 (sulphur) installed on my system.

Searched a bit on the net but couldn't really figure something out.
For some reason when I wake my computer up, there is no sound. No matter what I try through the terminal, or by playing with the volume controls, no audio. I can only get audio working again by a restart.
Does anybody know why, and/or how to fix?
I have no sound after the Suspend function. I am running OSS4.I usually run "sudo soundoff && sudo soundon" after closing any applications using the sound... however, this is just a temporary solution. I suspend quite a lot, and so doing this over and over can get irritating.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy problem is this: when I suspend, sound disappears, and I have to reboot to get it back, which is, needless to say, rather annoying. I'm using Ubuntu 11.04, with a low-latency kernel.
I have three sound cards:
1) Delta 1010LT, which uses snd_ice1712
2) Sound Blaster Audigy 2, which uses snd_emu10k1
3) Some on-board Realtek thingy, which I guess uses snd_hda_codec_realtek
I use jack on the Delta1010LT, and I run pulseaudio through jack.
When, after a suspend, I try to restart jack via qjackct, it gives up and prompt the following:

i'm having choppy sound in 10.04. i didn't have it in 9.10 and i don't know enough about how it works to try to fix it.
here are some things i have noticed, however.
1. the choppy sound is present in a 64bit and 32bit install. at first i thought it may just be a 64bit issue so i reinstalled to 32bit and it is still present.
2. it does not seem to matter what media type i am playing. i notice it most with videos from videos and music from pandora.
3. it seems to occur more often at intense moments of music. i'm not really sure how to describe it, but it is typically the climax of a song where it is a little louder and more intense.
Just installed Ubuntu 10.10 with Wubi (took forever to figure out how to get the wubi.exe to recognize the 10.10 iso) and I don't have sound coming from my speakers. Audio works fine with headphones, but output from speakers is non-existent.
I get sound when I boot into Windows 7, so I doubt it had something to be with the actual speakers. I'm really new to Ubuntu (but loving it!) so troubleshooting is a little difficult for me, especially with terminal commands.
The sound on this laptop isn't working. It has an "Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller" sound card. What's wrong?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to configure my revo R3700 over the last day and I'm finally there. HDMI sound is working apart from the fact that all sound is crackling. Sound is working through analogue without issue its just HDMI that is distorted
I initially did the command
aplay -Dplughw:1,7 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
Which produced no crackling or distortion. I then tried a mp3 which was distorted and crackling, upon trying the same command as above later on, this too started to be distorted
Searched through the forum and theres a few people that have had this issue and have resolved it simply by edited alsamixer however this isn't working.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently pulled out my old broken xp computer and fixed it up with Linux mint 8. The installation went fine and even fixed my old "missing sound driver" problem that i had on the xp.
But i came back the next day to find that my sound was no longer working. Ive double checked that it wasn't the speakers and am pretty sure its the old driver problem again
I can't think what i've done to make my sound suddenly pack in. One minute all is working well, then its not anymore. The only thing I did in between was install claws-mail yesterday. This evening an error mssage popped up and now no sound.
My card is HDA Intel; The error when i open Kmixer is -
GStreamer was unable to detect any sound devices. Some sound system specific GStreamer packages may be missing. It may also be a permissions problem.
Sound works great for non kde programs such as firefox and vlc. Amarok and dragon player however refuse to play with sound. Sound doesn't work either when testing it in the 'Multimedia' section. I have no pulseaudio installed. Any ideas where I can look for possible solutions? code...

I looked at the propriatory drives and it isn't there my sound card is a Realtek High Definition Stereo ALC260 can anyone Help. but now with alsa my mic was not working and hence i uninstalled alsa and installes oss4 as was directed by other forums ..

I'm not great with computers. I have no clue how to fix this kind of thing. I went into Alsamixer, and it says my card is an Intel 82801CA-ICH3. I have updated all of the files that needed updated, turned up the master volume and it still doesn't work. Somebody please explain this to me in words I can understand.

If I suspend this toshiba satellite, and the battery is or gets low it will wake from suspend to tell me that it will need to suspend due to a critical low battery. Which is pretty dumb. I've experimented with this by plugging and unplugging the ac adapter.

So i am having trouble resuming an array. When i try it tells me that it's unable to do so because only one drive is available. Here is the weird bit, if i examine each of the drives one thinks that both drives are available and the other drive shows the first drive as being removed. (see below). This is a raid 5 and one of the drive has failed and been removed. I know that this was a terrible idea but the array has been functioning for a few weeks with just the two drives. And now i can't resume. Here is the output of the examine functions for each drive: notice that sda1 sees both drive 0 and 1 as active, but sdb2 sees drive 0 as removed.

I need to resume without losing the data, i'm afraid that adding drive 0 to array will reinitialize the array losing all of the data. Someone please help me out in finding the right command to get the array up long enough for me to get the important data off.(and please refrain from telling me how stupid i am for not getting it all off as soon as drive 2 went faulty. I know it was dumb but this is where i am now and can't change the past).
When the computer is in standby i press the power button and it whirrs into life but the screen stays blank and the power light stays orange.
Only way to sort it is to turn it off then on again.
I bought a laptop from ZaReason (zareason.com) with Ubuntu already installed. I am currently running 10.10. The machine has worked great but recently has had problems coming back from hibernation. This is a new problem and did not seem to coincide with an update or new software. When I try to "wake up" my laptop, it shows a bunch of text (I am not that computer-literate, so I don't understand the text) and becomes unresponsive. View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently did a fresh install of 11.04 (previously had 9.10) Everything works fine and dandy (I didn't have to do much tweaking at all to this version!!!) Except: When my computer resumes from the screensaver (GL text, set to display time) it takes nearly a minute for my DE to show up. When it finally does show up it takes another minute or more for the computer to run at normal "speed". A lot of lag and unresponsive mouse etc. After a few minutes the computer runs fine...I am not so linux savvy, what I know I have gleaned from forums such as this one. Is there something that 11.04 runs as default that I need to shut off to stop my slow resume problem?
