I have recently pulled out my old broken xp computer and fixed it up with Linux mint 8. The installation went fine and even fixed my old "missing sound driver" problem that i had on the xp.
But i came back the next day to find that my sound was no longer working. Ive double checked that it wasn't the speakers and am pretty sure its the old driver problem again
I'm trying to figure out what in the world is going on with my sound in OpenSuSE. I put in a brand new Audigy chipset soundcard and finally got some sound to come out of the speakers. I used the guide here: SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE. to fix the permissions on my sound and am able to get sound-test to play sounds as well as connect to the sound device in my vmware and play sounds. That being said, I have terrible sound quality coming out. There is a lot of static sound like white noise and the volume of the actual sound played is very low compared to the noise. The sounds also distort somewhat.
I have tried the pulse audio change in the tutorial above also and have been searching around google. The only problem that I saw similar was a person who fixed the problem by updating KDE. I don't have KDE, I'm using Afterstep.
After installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing, zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.
I had a fully working fc12 using Kaffeine to get DVB-T using a Nova T-500. After installing and updating latest fc13 (and Kaffeine) I cannot get it to see the TV. It has scanned Ok and the TV card is detected OK in warm state. As I also had no sound I looked at the differences in the sound GUI between my fc12 and 13.
Kaffeine is detected in fc12 but not shown in fc13.
Just tried Totem Movie Player and tried to tune the DVB-T but it gives a gnome DVB failure, so my problem is in fc13/Gnome.
Could someone advise me as wht I can try so that I can continue using Fedora?
I've just installed opensuse 11.2, its cool man..the problem is : i open amarok (just fine) and i add couple of song but they won't play. there is something i miss..?
I have some mp3's that will not play on my player they play on rhythmbox.Someone else ripped them for me.The only thing that is different is the sample rate it's different on all the mp3's and i don't know what to do is there a way to change this or is there something else that would be causing this and a way to repair them
I can't think what i've done to make my sound suddenly pack in. One minute all is working well, then its not anymore. The only thing I did in between was install claws-mail yesterday. This evening an error mssage popped up and now no sound.
My card is HDA Intel; The error when i open Kmixer is -
GStreamer was unable to detect any sound devices. Some sound system specific GStreamer packages may be missing. It may also be a permissions problem.
Sound works great for non kde programs such as firefox and vlc. Amarok and dragon player however refuse to play with sound. Sound doesn't work either when testing it in the 'Multimedia' section. I have no pulseaudio installed. Any ideas where I can look for possible solutions? code...
i'm having choppy sound in 10.04. i didn't have it in 9.10 and i don't know enough about how it works to try to fix it.
here are some things i have noticed, however.
1. the choppy sound is present in a 64bit and 32bit install. at first i thought it may just be a 64bit issue so i reinstalled to 32bit and it is still present.
2. it does not seem to matter what media type i am playing. i notice it most with videos from videos and music from pandora.
3. it seems to occur more often at intense moments of music. i'm not really sure how to describe it, but it is typically the climax of a song where it is a little louder and more intense.
Before upgrading to 10.04 from 9.10, I had sound issues after resuming from suspend (I had no audio at all). I found a script that solved the sound issue. My problem now is, with 10.04, the script keeps my laptop from going into suspend. I haven't been able to find anything to resolve this issue in 10.04. Any help as to why/how to resolve?
Just installed Ubuntu 10.10 with Wubi (took forever to figure out how to get the wubi.exe to recognize the 10.10 iso) and I don't have sound coming from my speakers. Audio works fine with headphones, but output from speakers is non-existent.
I get sound when I boot into Windows 7, so I doubt it had something to be with the actual speakers. I'm really new to Ubuntu (but loving it!) so troubleshooting is a little difficult for me, especially with terminal commands.
I am unable to get any sound from my speakers I know they work because I have windows 7 on the second hard drive and they work, however, not using Ubuntu 10.10. I looked at the propriatory drives and it isn't there my sound card is a Realtek High Definition Stereo ALC260 can anyone Help. Please keep it simple as I am a newbie to Linux and I find it confusing at times.
i have uninstalled and reinstalled alsa and made sure its not muted, in pulse audio it displays sound is coming out when i play a song, but no sound is actually coming out.. i dont want to go back to windows, but if i cant get sound im going to have to
I've been trying to configure my revo R3700 over the last day and I'm finally there. HDMI sound is working apart from the fact that all sound is crackling. Sound is working through analogue without issue its just HDMI that is distorted
Which produced no crackling or distortion. I then tried a mp3 which was distorted and crackling, upon trying the same command as above later on, this too started to be distorted
Searched through the forum and theres a few people that have had this issue and have resolved it simply by edited alsamixer however this isn't working.
Ok, so I have Linux Mint 7 "Gloria", using kernel 2.6.28-11. I got a new GeForce 8400GS and replaced my ATi pile of sh*t with it no problem, Mint starts up fine as if nothing happened. code...
Everything seems fine, so I reboot and all seems fine, except when I try to play music or a video I get no sound at all. I'm fairly certain that something in the first links instructions (the Ubuntu ones) removed something it shouldn't have, but I have no idea what to look for.
I have a toshiba m305d satelite laptop i installed ubuntu karmic 9.10 and evrything seems to be working fine including wireless and ethernet which was not working previously .. but now with alsa my mic was not working and hence i uninstalled alsa and installes oss4 as was directed by other forums .. however with alsa my sound was working in skype but now nothing seems to work .. i am getting error as "problem with audio playback" i am using skype 2.0 as 2.1 was said to be not compatible with oss4 also the sounds in my pdgin im client is not working ..
here is my component information code...
i have tried checking mic using ossrecord but dint get ne output.. i also tried sound recorder which also dint work with both alsa and oss4
now the thing is with oss4 even the speakers are not working for some applications like pdgin and skype which was working with alsa
I'm not great with computers. I have no clue how to fix this kind of thing. I went into Alsamixer, and it says my card is an Intel 82801CA-ICH3. I have updated all of the files that needed updated, turned up the master volume and it still doesn't work. Somebody please explain this to me in words I can understand.
10.04 will not play sound. It's definitely a kernel issue and I am not the only one from what I read elsewhere. Prior to kernel 2.6.28 audio works on this Samsung Q1 Tablet PC. Any kernels from 2.6.28 onwards will not recognize my sound card and therefore won't play sound no matter what. I've proved it running different livecds (Suse, Mandriva, PCLOS, etc.) with kernels 2.6.25, 2.6.27, etc., all with audio. Now, how can I use/import a suitable kernel for Lucid Lynx 10.04 so that it will recognize my sound card (snd-hda-intel) on this Q1?
Sound is not enabled in my PC. i am not able to play any music files, in Linux but it plays well in Windows
Configuration of my Desktop PC is as follows; a. Redhat Enterprise Linux 4 b. Kernel version 2.6.9-22.ELsmp c. Output from lspci | grep -i audio command : "00:1b.0 Class 0403: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)"
First things first: I'm running F12 KDE and yum informs me that I'm fully up to dateI'm having a problem where the second sound that my computer plays stutters - this is best seen in amarok, the first track will play fine but the second track will stutter and play really slowly. I asked on IRC and the suggestion came back that it was possibly due to this bug[URL]
I am having sound problems with Fedora 14 the problem being no sound! I have been trying to fix this for a few days now and have spent hours and hours, I am considering putting windows back on because I am so frustrated but I would really like to get Fedora working if possible. I am new to Linux based systems but am really impressed so far, I installed it on 2 of my laptops, one of them works great, have sound no problems, but the other one has no sound, it's the older one that wont play sound, I don't know if that is relevant.
I have tried so many different fixes that I have found on the forums that I can't remember everything I've done. Now the first thing you would probably say is alsamixer -c0, I have checked that, it shows 2 master volumes one was up and one was muted. I turned the muted one up but it didn't fix the problem. But it may be worth mentioning that when I have returned to alsamixer it was back down. I tried the alsactl store command but after a reboot it had still gone back to mute.
and just to clarify I am using su commands. I have logged in as root and tried to play sound because I suspected a permissions problem but I can't play logged in as root either.
I have uninstalled, reinstalled and uninstalled again pulseaudio. I have read it has caused issues for lots of people so I left it uninstalled. Couldn't open the sound settings in system preferences so I installed gmixer. So I have asla and gmixer currently installed.
I can't remember what else I have done, that's just what I have done in the last couple of hours, I have installed almost every sound related package that I have come across, I have messed up the operating system 3 times and done a fresh install. The default sound card is ATI-IXP. The laptop in question is an IBM thinkpad R15e
Trying to figure out why when I open an avi file in VLC I get no sound.
I ran it from Terminal and this is what was spewed out...
VLC media player 1.0.2 Goldeneye [0x98b3140] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface. [0xb7326880] pulse audio output: No. of Audio Channels: 1 QPainter::begin: Paint device returned engine == 0, type: 1
[Code]....
As a side note I did remove PulseAudio and install Esound then removed Esound and installd PulseAudio again, hopefully I did it right, because I get system sounds and no problem with music or ..... for example.
iv bin haveing prbles with ubuntu lately ever since i first got it i have a sound probelm when i play this game it has sound but if i go on your tube and play music no sound comes out and it just make the vido lag and i have to force quit
I have a network of about 25 computers. All of them running either Ubuntu 10.04 or 9.10. I can ssh into each machine with no problems. I want to type a terminal command and have an audio file play in the speakers of the user at the remote machine. The users have soft phones..... all sound is pushed through their headsets..... If I wanted to say.... play a cat meow in their ear or maybe a dog barking.... how would I do this?
Kill me, but) I log into root on my machine, and I downloaded an flv file. I tried to play it with Totem, but it, for some odd reason, kept showing up with big black boxes in it. When I exited Totem, my volume went mute and I can not un-mute it. This only happens to the root account. What should I do?
I'm using ubuntu 10.04. I installed SMplayer from this repository. But I cant hear any sound in this SMplayer when I tried to play .flv files (other format are playeing nicely) But these flv files are playing nicely on vlc (theres no sound problem on vlc). So what should I do to get sound when I play flv on SMplayer?
