I can't think what i've done to make my sound suddenly pack in. One minute all is working well, then its not anymore. The only thing I did in between was install claws-mail yesterday. This evening an error mssage popped up and now no sound.
My card is HDA Intel; The error when i open Kmixer is -
GStreamer was unable to detect any sound devices. Some sound system specific GStreamer packages may be missing. It may also be a permissions problem.
Yum is unable to access any packages in the F15 updates repository. When I manually download and browse the repo filename list (http://ftp.jaist.ac.jp/pub/Linux/Fed...ateinfo.xml.gz) it seems that the files are listed as being available from the Fedora *5* address, which is obviously incorrect. This issue seems to have been going on for a few weeks now.
After upgrade to 10.10 certain cursors became broken. Please see attached picture to get an idea what it looks like, I've circled the cursor. I had to take a pic with a camera, if I do a print screen the resulting image shows normal cursor. I've tried turning off desktop effects and different drivers for the video card. The cursor is broken for the following apps: rdesktop - always when connected to the remote host chrome/firefox - image zoom in/out open office draw - when I try to resize a line.
Did my 11.4 upgrade today, and so far things have been going pretty good, but I'm having a slight problem with my iPhone4 being "seen" correctly by my desktop environment, and I was hoping someone would be able to answer a question or two for me.
In the 11.4 RPM for usbmuxd, a udev rule is installed which controls the "mounting" and "unmounting" of the iOS device. The udev rule expects a certain username and group to be present, as it runs under that specfic username (but unfortunately the RPM doesn't create the username and group, and neither are created at install time). This prevents iOS devices from being seen correctly by programs like banshee, amarok, etc.
Logging in as 'root' and spawning the 'usbmuxd' process as root works fine, but it doesn't work so well for other non-root users.
Does anyone have any idea(s) as to what group, etc that the "usbmuxd" user should be in?
Once I get this working, I'd be happy to write up a FAQ for getting the iPhone working under openSUSE .. .this is something that has been hit or miss for me with OS (and has worked pretty well with some other distros)...
Since I installed Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick in a new computer (my lab's computer), there are three broken icons in the system tray. They are black rectangles, with white borders, and a forbidden sign in the middle. I can't figure out what program is related to them, and they don't respond to left or right click. Can anyone point me in some direction? I thought about using programs like xprop/xwininfo to figure out what program they are related to and kill it, but these don't work for system tray, only for windows.
I have recently pulled out my old broken xp computer and fixed it up with Linux mint 8. The installation went fine and even fixed my old "missing sound driver" problem that i had on the xp.
But i came back the next day to find that my sound was no longer working. Ive double checked that it wasn't the speakers and am pretty sure its the old driver problem again
Sound works great for non kde programs such as firefox and vlc. Amarok and dragon player however refuse to play with sound. Sound doesn't work either when testing it in the 'Multimedia' section. I have no pulseaudio installed. Any ideas where I can look for possible solutions? code...
i'm having choppy sound in 10.04. i didn't have it in 9.10 and i don't know enough about how it works to try to fix it.
here are some things i have noticed, however.
1. the choppy sound is present in a 64bit and 32bit install. at first i thought it may just be a 64bit issue so i reinstalled to 32bit and it is still present.
2. it does not seem to matter what media type i am playing. i notice it most with videos from videos and music from pandora.
3. it seems to occur more often at intense moments of music. i'm not really sure how to describe it, but it is typically the climax of a song where it is a little louder and more intense.
Before upgrading to 10.04 from 9.10, I had sound issues after resuming from suspend (I had no audio at all). I found a script that solved the sound issue. My problem now is, with 10.04, the script keeps my laptop from going into suspend. I haven't been able to find anything to resolve this issue in 10.04. Any help as to why/how to resolve?
Just installed Ubuntu 10.10 with Wubi (took forever to figure out how to get the wubi.exe to recognize the 10.10 iso) and I don't have sound coming from my speakers. Audio works fine with headphones, but output from speakers is non-existent.
I get sound when I boot into Windows 7, so I doubt it had something to be with the actual speakers. I'm really new to Ubuntu (but loving it!) so troubleshooting is a little difficult for me, especially with terminal commands.
I am unable to get any sound from my speakers I know they work because I have windows 7 on the second hard drive and they work, however, not using Ubuntu 10.10. I looked at the propriatory drives and it isn't there my sound card is a Realtek High Definition Stereo ALC260 can anyone Help. Please keep it simple as I am a newbie to Linux and I find it confusing at times.
I've been trying to configure my revo R3700 over the last day and I'm finally there. HDMI sound is working apart from the fact that all sound is crackling. Sound is working through analogue without issue its just HDMI that is distorted
Which produced no crackling or distortion. I then tried a mp3 which was distorted and crackling, upon trying the same command as above later on, this too started to be distorted
Searched through the forum and theres a few people that have had this issue and have resolved it simply by edited alsamixer however this isn't working.
Ok, so I have Linux Mint 7 "Gloria", using kernel 2.6.28-11. I got a new GeForce 8400GS and replaced my ATi pile of sh*t with it no problem, Mint starts up fine as if nothing happened. code...
Everything seems fine, so I reboot and all seems fine, except when I try to play music or a video I get no sound at all. I'm fairly certain that something in the first links instructions (the Ubuntu ones) removed something it shouldn't have, but I have no idea what to look for.
I've been messing around with this for a while trying different mesa packages so far none of them have resolved the issue. XFCE, Fluxbox all work however kde wont load for some reason. Ive even tried using the drivers direct from dell as this is a poweredge t310.code...
This post was originally placed in the src2pkg thread, just below. But to avoid it being overlooked I am placing it in a new thread here.
I am using src2pkg v.2.0 with Slack 13.0 running kernel 2.6.29.6
In the past I used trackinstall to run 'make install' after configuration and compilation (using a makefile). Here's an example of what happens when I use the current trackinstall that comes bundled with src2pkg code...
i tried finding a thread already on this issue but none seem to what i need to solve this issues.tried #ubuntu but people busy or no one on that knows how to handle this problem.ISUESMovie player - sound is good sometimes gets choppySkype - hear static - person called hears nothing but can hear dailed numbers when i click em...... type videos - breaks sound, reboot requiredWHILE using movie player,..... videos will play static but wont break sound. even if a movie is paused. if attempt ..... video without movie player open, movie sound is broke.im deployed to iraq and want to use skype to call home and talk to family.issues started before skype install but since i need skype, i can no longer ignore this DISTRO - ubuntu 9.04

I just installed slackware, and I configured it to automatically boot into x without first checking to make sure x would work. I started X, and I'm not quite sure what's wrong with it, but it's messed up, and I don't know how to get out of it
I have a strange problem with using curl function in php on slackware machines. So far I tested this on 2 PCs. I din't test it on any other distributions, so I don't know if it's only slackware problem.
Problem is that I can't use php curl in normal way. It can be tested wit simple code:
Code: $ch = curl_init("url"); $content = curl_exec($ch); if (curl_error($ch)) { echo(curl_error($ch) . "<br>"); } echo($content); When I'm opening this php script in browser I'm getting error message:
Code: Couldn't resolve host 'google.lv' but I can use curl command in terminal, also it works when I run this php script in terminal like:
Code: php ./curl_test.php So problem is not in curl or php itself, but in apache, because this happens only when this script is running in apache.
Searching google a lot, I got to conclusion that apache can't read /etc/resolve.conf file during startup. Strange thing is that it happens only when httpd starts during system startup, but if I'm stopping httpd and starting it again manually, it works as it should until I'll reboot my PC. Restarting httpd also do not work, I need to do start -> stop.
I think that apache reads /etc/resolve.conf only when it starting up and as I have DHCP, maybe network is still not ready at the moment of httpd startup.
I didn't try to configure php as php-cgi instead of apache module, I think then it would work normally because each php script would be separate process and it would read dns information each time, so the same like starting php script in terminal with command:
Code: php ./curl_test.php I think there are some ways to workaround it, e.g. delay somehow start of httpd during system startup, or something like that, but I want to find reason of this problem and make it work without any workaround.
I recently upgraded to -current from 13.0 on my Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop. It seems to have strange problems since then. The X crashes after sometime if I am running a video in firefox (flash based, say .....) in the full-screen mode. When I am not in the full-screen, it seems to run just fine. A similar thread was posted a few days back (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...rashes-846796/) and I thought I had overcome the problem using one of the suggestions provided, but apparently, I just had not run full-screen videos ever since (and I thought it was solved!). code...
I should mention that, the crash happened when I was running a video chat on gmail in full-screen mode too. I have the Xorg.0.log for that too, if it is going to be helpful. Also, one thing I noticed was that even Ctrl+Alt+b_space does not work when this crash happens!! (so, I have to go ahead and reboot the system using the power button everytime) This I find very strange, since if at all, I should have been able to kill the process and restart X.
This seems to be an extraordinarily long thread, but I have put in whatever I thought could be useful info I should give. I will appreciate any help in resolving this issue.
I'm running 10.10 and sound works great... except for with web browsers. Namely Chrome and firefox.I've tried just about every thread I can find to fix this. pulseaudio is loaded, alsa-oss... flash-nonfree-**** loaded. This really shouldn't be this hard, should it? Hell I've been working with linux since it was distributed on fidonet and have admined unix for 20 years. WTF?
I have a toshiba m305d satelite laptop i installed ubuntu karmic 9.10 and evrything seems to be working fine including wireless and ethernet which was not working previously .. but now with alsa my mic was not working and hence i uninstalled alsa and installes oss4 as was directed by other forums .. however with alsa my sound was working in skype but now nothing seems to work .. i am getting error as "problem with audio playback" i am using skype 2.0 as 2.1 was said to be not compatible with oss4 also the sounds in my pdgin im client is not working ..
here is my component information code...
i have tried checking mic using ossrecord but dint get ne output.. i also tried sound recorder which also dint work with both alsa and oss4
now the thing is with oss4 even the speakers are not working for some applications like pdgin and skype which was working with alsa
I'm not great with computers. I have no clue how to fix this kind of thing. I went into Alsamixer, and it says my card is an Intel 82801CA-ICH3. I have updated all of the files that needed updated, turned up the master volume and it still doesn't work. Somebody please explain this to me in words I can understand.
As part of instructions from Slackware Installation site, I am trying to make a boot file from the ISO (10.2VER). The command given: 'dd if=[image file name] of=/dev/fd0' Tried image file 'bare.i' and also 'pportide.i' Error from Red Hat OS: "opening 'pportide.i' no such file, directory" Also tried 'C:>RAWRITE bare.i a:' from WinXP command line with negative result.
Slackware help site: 'http://www.slackware.com/install/bootdisk.php' I have not seen a command w/ 2 = symbols?? Installing to stand-alone desktop, PATA IDE Controllers. (ISO was copied with process: 'image burned to disk').v
Well, that's about it - the firefox and thunderbird packages included on the first batch of official 13.1 updates keep crashing when I try to print a web page or an e-mail. Seamonkey, updated as well, can print as usual.
