View 3 RepliesI am using Ubuntu 9.10 on an Acer Aspire 5050 (5052AWXMi model) and I am experiencing some problems of system Hibernation and Suspend. When I put my laptop to sleep mode (suspend) then after pressing a button system tries to open but what I get it is only a black screen. The same problem appears also when I am trying to hibernate my system. After opening my laptop again I am getting a message < waking up. Please wait > but then I get again a black screen.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a laptop from ZaReason (zareason.com) with Ubuntu already installed. I am currently running 10.10. The machine has worked great but recently has had problems coming back from hibernation. This is a new problem and did not seem to coincide with an update or new software. When I try to "wake up" my laptop, it shows a bunch of text (I am not that computer-literate, so I don't understand the text) and becomes unresponsive. I will insert an image of my screen when it is frozen: DSCF7055.jpg

I use Debian Jessie with Linux 4.4.6 from backports and obviously systemd. My graphics card is Intel HD 5500, my processor is Broadwell i5-5200U. I use Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop.Suspending to RAM works fine, but I have problem with hibernation. Resuming from hibernation also works, but only when time between hibernating and resuming is a few hours. When this time is for example 10 hours (I hibernate before going to sleep and resume next day morning), I can't resume from hibernation. I see only black screen and keyboard doesn't work. In that case when I type in terminal
Code: Select alljournalctl
I can see:

I hibernate my computer using hibernate button in Kickoff in KDE Plasma.
I have installed VirtualBox and since then resuming from hibernation doesn't work again (my previous thread: [URL] ....). My question is: Can VirtualBox kernel modules (vboxpci, vboxnetadp, vboxnetflt, vboxdrv) break hibernation? If yes, what to do? Maybe unload them before hibernation, blacklist when resuming and load after resume? And how to do that with systemd? URL....

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 10.04. What I want to do is have the xboxdrv (xbox userspace driver) run after I resume from suspend. I created a script for it to run at boot and that worked out fine but I can't figure out how to enable it after I resume. I found something that described how to resume a module from suspend and it was to be placed in /etc/pm/sleep.d. That script looked like this:
#!/bin/bash
case $1 in
resume)
[code]...
That was for a wireless module to load after a suspend. What I did was replaced /sbin/modprobe ath_pci with the location of the xboxdrv at /usr/bin xboxdrv; unfortunately, that didn't work. I actually tried pointing it to my script that runs at boot but that also didn't work. Is there anyway I can just write a simple script that will run after I resume?
edit: Okay I also tried putting a script in another place at /etc/acpi/resume.d/xbox.sh; I had to create the folder resume.d. There I put the same script that I use at startup (which works fine) and it still won't work.
Before upgrading to 10.04 from 9.10, I had sound issues after resuming from suspend (I had no audio at all). I found a script that solved the sound issue. My problem now is, with 10.04, the script keeps my laptop from going into suspend. I haven't been able to find anything to resolve this issue in 10.04. Any help as to why/how to resolve?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been away from Kubuntu for a while but came back when Kubuntu 11.04 was released because it's awesome. I have a newer laptop since then, a Latitude E6410 with Intel graphics and 8GB of RAM. Everything works great, except......Sometimes when I resume from suspend to RAM, the screen flickers with thin white lines across the screen. I can switch to a tty and reboot it from there, but I'm unable to use KDE until I reboot. A lot of times resuming from suspend works without issue, but sometimes this problem occurs. I haven't figured out exactly what triggers it. In fact, the most recent time it happened, I didn't even have an application open.
I would like to figure this out because I use suspend a lot. I rarely turn off my laptop unless an update requires me to. I prefer to be able to close my lid and resume whatever I was working on later, but with this glitch I cannot trust it to do that.
When I suspend my computer, everything resumes fine... but the sound. The sound actually still works for the internal speakers, but not anymore for any jack-plugged headset or speakers. If I reboot, it works again. I also see nothing in the logs (dmesg, /var/log/messages).
These two commands return the same thing before and after resuming:
Code: Select allwoowoo:~$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [HDMI ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDMI
HDA Intel HDMI at 0xf7a14000 irq 34
1 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0xf7a10000 irq 33
[Code].....
I also tried
Code: Select allsudo alsa force-reload
As it was recommended a lot when I googled it, but it seems that the alsa bin/script is not available on debian. It tells me repeatedly to install alsa-base, which was already installed. The following commands have been run one after the other, in that order:
Code: Select allroot:~# alsa force-reload
The program 'alsa' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
apt-get install alsa-base
alsa: command not found
Code: Select allroot:~# sudo apt-get install alsa-base

alsa-base is already the newest version.

How to prevent me from rebooting each time I need sound after suspending my computer?
ASUS P5Q Deluxe, Intel Core 2 Duo, GeForce 8800, 4GB RAM, USB keyboard and mouse never had problems with suspend and hibernation in Ubuntu. Until the latest version 10.10. Both before and after installing the proprietary Nvidia drivers, the system enters the sleep and hibernate but I can not wake up properly. Specifically, while it looks as it starts up, but not fires up the X server. Oddly - operate only CTRL + ALT + F1-12. You can switch to the text cosole, see the "incentive" to sign but other keys do not work and nothing can be entered. Not working CTRL + ALT + DEL as well, so you need to turn off the system power.

Using 64Bit Ubuntu 10.04 on a VAIO VGN-FW373J. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650. This relates to Bug 451282. If I install the ATI 3D Drivers, the dimming problem goes away, but a host of other bugs crop up. After a resume from screen lock, suspend, or hibernation, the screen is reduced to graphical chaos. There are also hibernation errors. This bug is worse than the dimming bug, so I've uninstalled the 3d ATI drivers. If I can't find a workaround, I may have to look for a different Linux Distro or be content with Windows 7 on this particular laptop.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy suspend-to-disk and suspend-to-RAM stopped working months ago. I've grasped at straws about why ever since, but I really don't think it's a software problem, because I've reinstalled my system (MEPIS) repeatedly. What sort of hardware failures could cause this? What should I be looking for? I notice that at boot, Linux always says "no resume image found," even if I left the system in suspension or hibernation. I can post parts of the dmesg if someone tells me what to look for; I can't display the whole thing because it's too long to fit here.
View 7 Replies View RelatedFor the sake of security, I want the screen to be locked after the system is resumed from suspend or hibernation. Now the only way I can do this is to check the options "Lock screen when screen saver is active." in the screensaver preference. But this method is annoying since I have to type the password to quit the screensaver. Is there other way to do this? Thanks.
By the way, I use CentOS 5.2 x86_64.

After disabling the touchpad using the toggle button and reenabling it again, it stopped working. I tried restarting my laptop and the mouse worked again only up to the Login Screen. After logging in to my account, the mouse froze again. I tried making a new account and tried logging into it (I'm using it now) and it's now fixed. Does Ubuntu change any user settings everytime the touchpad toggle (on/off) button is switched? Maybe I could just reenable it myself.

i'm having a little bit of trouble with my touchpad, it is apparently recognized as a PS2 Mouse, so no edge scrolling obviously, i read through xorg-x11-drv-synaptics-1.4.0.901-1.fc15 (1686) description:
Code:
This is the Synaptics touchpad driver for the X.Org X server. The following touchpad models are supported:
* Synaptics
* appletouch (Post February 2005 and October 2005 Apple Aluminium Powerbooks)
* Elantech (EeePC)
* bcm5974 (Macbook Air (Jan 2008), Macbook Pro Penryn (Feb 2008), iPhone (2007), iPod Touch (2008)
Note that support for appletouch, elantech and bcm5974 requires the respective kernel module. A touchpad by default operates in compatibility mode by emulating a standard mouse. However, by using a dedicated driver, more advanced features of the touchpad become available.
Features:
Movement with adjustable, non-linear acceleration and speed. Button events through short touching of the touchpad ("tapping"). Double-Button events through double short touching of the touchpad. Dragging through short touching and holding down the finger on the touchpad. Middle and right button events on the upper and lower corner of the touchpad.Vertical scrolling (button four and five events) through moving the finger on the right side of the touchpad.
The up/down button sends button four/five events. Horizontal scrolling (button six and seven events) through moving the finger on the lower side of the touchpad. * The multi-buttons send button four/five events, and six/seven events for horizontal scrolling.Adjustable finger detection. Multifinger taps: two finger for middle button and three finger for right button events. (Needs hardware support. Not all models implement this feature.) Run-time configuration using shared memory. This means you can change parameter settings without restarting the X server. and it says that it requires specific kernel modules for the touchpad, otherwise it will be recognized as a normal mouse. Maybe I'm wrong but i think my problem fits in this state.

I'm running F13 on an HP-dv6 with a Synaptics touchpad. I have not had any problems with the touchpad until the latest kernel upgrade to 2.6.33.8-149.fc13.x86_64. Now, intermittently with no obvious cause, yhe Synaptics driver fails to load at boot resulting in a dead touchpad. I've tried altering my xorg.conf with no results. The error message I get during boot when this happens is:
Code:
unable to query Synaptics hardware I've done some Googling as well as searching these forums and have found several suggestions, none of which seem to work. I already have /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf which reads:
Code:
##
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "touchpad catchall"
MatchIsTouchpad "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "synaptics"
Option "TapButton1" "1"
EndSection
When it works it works great. Just seems to be no rhyme or reason for it. When it's not working and I try to run synclient I get an error that the synaptics module is not loaded. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or is it just me?
I bought a Rock Mini keyboard with touchpad MSZ-KBTP. The touchpad is working with fedora 14 but some of the keys are not what they should be. I tried changing the keyboard layout under gnome keyboard settings but the keyboard is not listed.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4056 and recently installed Fedora 14 (64-bit GNOME) with all sorts of updates and software. I'm working my way through all of the hardware to get it all running properly. I figured out how to get the RealTek wireless-n adapter working.
The webcam is working even with Skype which is tricky on the 64-bit version. At the moment, my touchpad doesn't work. I see a lot of articles online about the touchpad not double-tapping, but mine doesn't work at all. I've been using a mouse for all my GUI stuff. I went to SYSTEM --> PREFERENCES --> MOUSE and selected the touchpad tab, but I can't figure out how to make it work.
I was having touchpad issues out of the blue so I tried a fix where I do this: sudo sh -c "echo options psmouse proto=exps > /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.modprobe" Unfortunately I only found out afterward that this replaced my touchpad driver with the mouse one, and as a result I don't even have the tab menu that is normally under the "mouse settings".

So the computeris resumed to some degree (to have been able to accept that sequence), butnot all the way - no video (and who knows what else)Any ideas -- I've searched high and low. Are there new kernel parametersI have to be aware of when I do a "make oldconfig", and go from there?
