Everytime I attempt to install anything, in any way, I'm given the following error message:
E: lib32nss-mdns: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
E: wine1.2: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
I went into Synaptics Package Manager and told it to uninstall WINE in case that was what was causing the problems. It sort of half-uninstalled-it then gave me that exact same error message.I have two threads currently open on the forums - adjusting laptop brightness and flashing BIOS - and both problems hit a brick wall because of this same error message.

I have been having the worst time trying to get sametime messenger from IBM to install properly. I had it working fine for the last 6 months and yesterday I accidently updated and it all went to {1134}. I seem to have found dkms to be the source of the problem.
I get an exit 0 regardless of whether or not its install or uninstall. I have managed to get pidgin to work for now, but it is no means ideal for my purposes.
I kept getting this...

It's called TextRipper and it creates indexable and editable text files from any image. Feel free to copy TextRipper; it's licenced under GPL. My troubles are with cracking passworded pdf's. (As you can see, I meant any when I said any image.)
I can't find a way for the user to cancel the decryption process by exiting the script without pdfcrack orphaning. Line 349 works the rest of the time; the concerned process is line 228. I believe it's a piping/subshell problem. At least that's how I've been going at it in vain.
I've made portability a priority and that the comments still require updating.
Code:
If the result is one output file, TextRipper will open it for you in OpenOffice Writer.
Otherwise all txt output files (editable and indexable) will be in the original file's directory." 0 0

I'm thinking about installing a DNS server on Fedora 13 running bind. I looked around for available bind packages and found only these:
Now the first one contains bind utils the second one is for running DNS in a chroot env and the last one is a bind with some DB backend.
Does this mean that fedora 13 doesn't support/.provide "standard" bind server (I mean the one to run without chroot/without db backend) ? Or am I missing anything in my repolist which is :

First off I am new to Linux and fairly new to working in Networking and Server config's. I have been using Windows for years and have been learning Windows Server 2003 as I have a Technet account, I can get any MS software. I would like to learn Linux and use this as my Server environment. My project looks like this: I have a Quad core, 8gb machine. I want to install a distro of Linux (server or desktop) and run Virtual Machines on it.
My perferred way would be to use Virtual Box but I could use VMware products if that was better. I would like to run WS2003, WS2008, Linux Distro and anything else that will run in a VM. I can figure out that part pretty easily. I want the Linux host machine to run all these VM's and access and use them on my MAC remotely. I have done some research on ESXi as well, but I don't think my Hardware is going to support that. My exact PC spec's are:
AMD x4 940
8gb DDR2
Gigabyte MA770-UD3
2 Velicoraptor Drives
GTX 260
I will be dual booting this machine on one of the Raptors for gaming as well.

I am using apache2 with subversion and trying to get post commit script to run an svn update command. All svn commands seem to work fine manually
Everything used to work fine but then the server ip changed and I can no longer access it with the web name and have to use the ip directly
I am using tortoise svn with vista on my work machine
Here is the script
#!/bin/sh
export LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8
/usr/bin/svn update /home/common/webroot/bob
Here is the result.
Command: Commit
Modified: C:UsersMattDesktopcheckout - bobindex.php
Sending content: C:UsersMattDesktopcheckout - bobindex.php
Completed: At revision: 63
Error: post-commit hook failed (exit code 1) with output:
code....
I think what i need to do is update the certifcate for the apache2, but I'm not sure how to do this, where to put it, and then which of the thousand apache config lines needs to be changed

In short, what I'd like to find is a workaround to install Grub2 onto a USB stick, from a PC running Windows, without using a GUI. After searching, I don't find any way to install Grub2 from Windows. I do have a nice little MS-DOS batch file that installs syslinux onto a USB stick. It's simple, fairly fool-proof, and I'd like to convert it to install Grub2.Did find an example of running grub-install without actually installing anything: grub-install --grub-setup=/bin/true /dev/sdaSo, IFAIKT, this just creates the Grub2 'boot.img' file, and maybe also modifies the 'core.img' file? Is that right? If so, then a little DOS utility to write a USB's MBR using the boot.img should work, yes?
However, I notice the boot.img file is 512 bytes. As I understand it, a drive's partition table is included in that space. I'd like to take that boot.img and use it to install Grub2 on any arbitrary USB stick, without altering the existing partition table. If I snip off the last 72 bytes so the image is only 440 bytes, it seems like this should work (assuming that every USB stick will have Grub2 installed in the /boot/grub subdirectory). If this sounds right, is there a DOS-based MBR update utility that you would recommend? I find several, such as MBRUtility, MBRWizard, and MBRFix, among others

When ever I install software it seems to install ok but when I run it all the menus are in another language and I can't understand it this has become very frustrating, I have gone to system / preferances / appearance and tried to change the font through there but it still seems to happen when I install software from synaptic package installer. so some of the software I have running on here like open office ect is impossible to read.

I have a desktop Windows PC with three hard drives. Having successfully installed Ubuntu on a laptop I used the same CD image to boot Ubuntu on my desktop machine. All seemed well so I selected the option to install alongside the existing OS. I left the choice of drive as presented by the installer (it was the largest one) and asked for an 80G partition for Ubuntu. The installation went well but when the machine was restarted it just booted straight into Windows. No sign of the bootloader menu. I'm guessing the BIOS doesn't look at the drive where Ubuntu is installed, and the installer did not put the bootloader on the Windows boot drive. The Windows drive is too small to install Ubuntu there. How do I fix this so that I can dual boot, or alternatively how do I get rid of Ubuntu and reclaim the 80G for Windows?

Perty self explanitory, I'm trying to boot up ubunto server edition 10.10 from a USB stick (pen drive) and it works fine until step 3 when it says "Your installation CD-ROM couldn't be mounted. This probably means that the CD-ROM was not put in the drive. If so you can insert it and try again
Try again to mount the CD-ROM? <Yes> <No>"
I don't have an installation cd-rom! I put the .iso file onto a memory stick, inserted it into my old computer (which i will turn into a server later) , restarted it and got past the first two slides and got this error? Do I have to put the iso on a cd-rom?

I noticed that if I have "exit" in a bash script file., e.g. script.sh,that when the word "exit" is reached, and the script file being executed is not in the PATH nvironment, i.e. ". script.sh", the whole konsole shell profile is exited! What gives here? Is there another command compatible to "exit" to prevent this, or will I just have the leave the "." part in the PATH enviroment, which is, to my understanding, is not recommended? I desire for a "goto" function in bash script files
