I have been trying to install g++ complier on Ubuntu 11.4 (64- bit) and I happen to get the following error.

If I have a hard-disk with Ubuntu fully installed on it and I want to - all of a sudden - use Windows XP, is it mandatory that I firstly format the hard-disk first? So far, I have used two versions of Windows XP; one of them is from a few years before the other. Both copies of Windows XP when in start-up from booting from CD are causing errors. One of them is a BSOD error (0x0000007B) and the next Windows CD is stopping and giving me an error with setupdd.sys (error code 4). Is it required that the hard-disk is formatted before you even put a Windows boot CD in?

i tried to install some themes and after the installation, I'm having problems on my "Places" menu(from the upper left next to Applications). i tries to upgrade my fc14 to fc15 using preupgrade. during installation packages process i get an error "fatal error bla-bla-bla installing netsniff-ng-...". i've booted in fc14 (in emergency mode) and manually removed old netsniff-ng package and installed new package. after that i've booted in preupgrade process. it finishes successfull. but now i can't boot in fc15 - i get "kernel panic" error. i've opened grub.conf and there is no 'initrd' section and there is no initramfs for fc15 in /boot folder. i've tried to boot fc15 with initrd /initramfs-bla-bla-fc14.i686.PAE.img. fc15 booted, but i think something wrong, because network not working, and there is only "lo" in ifconfig. what can i do?

View 3 Replies View RelatedOK, I've tried to install:Mint 6, 7 XFCE, and 8jolicloudeasypeasyand probably another or two..Oh, I'm installing this on my Acer Aspire One 751h, so I am using a USB key and UltraISO, with the exception of jolicloud, which has its own USB creator, and most recently I tried Mint 6 using UNetBootIn.Anyway, I keep getting the same general error, but with different files... Sometimes its errno5: input/output error, and other times its parts of a file (blah/doowop/dadada/video....) I don't know if its a driver problem or what, but I've seen video, sound, and other random stuff.. each time it gives a different one though.Either way, the main paragraph in the window talks about having a dirty CD, needing to replace my hard drive, or burning a new CD at a slower speed... I've checked the md5sum, and that's not the problem.
I'm wondering if my problem is that I'm creating the USB from one computer, and then trying to install it on the 751h. Another thing that might be causing the problem, but I doubt, is the fact that when I set up the partition, I select "use entire disk". Another question, Does it make a difference if the drive letter changes? On our main computer, the USB is mapped to drive E:, but on the 751h, it shows up as D:. If I have to change it on the 751h, how can I without an OS? when trying to install linux, it wiped out my windows, and I don't feel like re-installing it just to change it in a few minutes.
