Ubuntu :: Copy / Pate From Openoffice?

May 6, 2010

When using windows and openoffice, I can select a spreadsheet cell, copy it and then paste it anywhere without problem. However, when using Ubuntu and openoffice, if I select a spreadsheet cell and copy it, the paste doesn't work. In order to paste successfully, I need to double click the cell first, then copy, and lastly paste. Anyone know how to make it so I can simply select the cell, rather than double click it for copy/paste to work?

Slackware :: Openoffice Will Not Save To Nfs Share - Openoffice 3.2.0

Jun 5, 2010

I have an nfs share that mounts automatically when kde starts.

Code:

wendy@DellNB:~$ cat .kde/Autostart/mountNAS.sh
#!/bin/bash
mount ~/TestShare
#echo "NAS Mounted"

[code]...

Gimp works fine editing and saving photos from/to the nfs share. kWrite can do its thing and read/create files on the NAS. Files I create with vim are visible and editable under windows. OpenOffice however, when I try an open a file I get "file is locked by unknown user." I open as copy and try saving to the share with a different name... No Dice, error saving to share the file is created on the share but it is empty. I did some reading and found a post that said to comment a line from a file called soffice, which I cannot find.

General :: Copy A Read-Only File And Make The Copy Writable With A Single Cp Command?

Mar 1, 2011

How to copy a Read-Only file in Linux and make the copy writable with a single cp command in Linux (Ubuntu 10.04)? The --no-preserve and --preserve seemed to be good candidates, except that they should "and" the mode flags, while what I am looking for is something that will "or" them (add +w mode).

More details: I have to import a repository from GIT to Perforce. I want that all Perforce depot files are Read-Only (that is how Perforce was designed), while all other files that were derived/copied from depot files are writable. Currently if a Makefile tries to copy a Read-Only file then the derived file will also be Read-only. This leads to build-errors when cp tries to overwrite Read-Only file second time. Of course the --force is a workaround here but then the derived file is also Read-Only. Also I do not want to mess with "chmod" after each "cp" command - I will do that only as the last resort.

Fedora :: Disk Copy Utility - Should Be Able To Not Only Copy Files But Boot Sector And Everything

Sep 1, 2010

Recommend a good disk copy utility? The utility should be able to not only copy files, but boot sector and everything. So I just need to make a copy, change my BIOS to boot from the new drive and run everything as before.

Programming :: Copy An Entire Line And Add That Copy At The End Of The Same Line?

how do you copy an entire line and add that copy at the end of the same line?

For example, sometimes I rename a collection of files with a command like:

"mv oldfilename newfilename;"

I am able to add "mv" at the beginning, the semicolon at the end and sometimes replace a word in the middle, but... how to change a line "oldfilename" into "oldfilename oldfilename"... that is already long time a mystery to me...

Ubuntu :: Openoffice.org Causes X To Crash?

Jan 18, 2011

I'm using a ZaReason Terra HD netbook. I have not changed any of the default hardware, nor messed with any of the X or openoffice settings. For almost as long as I've had the computer, I've been getting random X crashes. The screen goes to black, dumps some text, and I'm given a series of options of what to do (low-graphics mode, diagnostics, exit to terminal). From what I've gathered, this only happens when openoffice is running (it can be in the background, it does not have to be the active application).

I really have no idea what to do or what is causing this. I've attached a log, and I will gladly attach whatever else might be useful. I've looked on the internet for help, and while I do see a lot of X and openoffice issues, they seem to be related to higher end hardware than I have. I'm running Ubuntu 10.4, openoffice.org 3.2, and using an Intel Corporation N10 Family Integrated Graphics Controller .

Note: the attached log is a text file, but I made it a .doc because it barely exceeded the file size limit for .txt .

Ubuntu :: Character Count On Openoffice.org?

Jan 13, 2010

I need a way to count characters without taking into account spaces, on OpenOffice Writer, and a way to do same, plus counting words on OpenOffice Calc. On Calc, it seems impossible to count words, just cels. I need that to help a friend who is a translator and receives per characters like that (without spaces).

She wants to migrate to free software, but she (and I too) couldn't find this tool on OpenOffice. She tells me it's possible to do that on MS Office.

Ubuntu :: Font Substitution Etc In OpenOffice

Feb 20, 2010

I have to send CVs to people as Word docs. I compose them using Linux Libertine font. This means that if I send them as they are, they will almost certainly be viewed in a completely inappropriate font. I have tried creating a copy converted to Times New Roman, but the result is inferior. I am also uncomfortable with this because I tend to end up with the originals the copies out of sync. I would rather have just one doc file for each type of CV.What I would like to know is:

1. Is there a serif font that all MS Office users are certain to have that is a less scrappy looking alternative to Times New Roman? It doesn't have to look identical to Linux Libertine, but none of the other MS core fonts look right.
2. Is there a way of specifying a generic serif font as a substitution in Word docs created in OpenOffice Writer like there is in HTML?

Ubuntu :: Faulty Printing In OpenOffice?

Apr 24, 2010

I have a weird printing issue with OpenOffice.

When I print from OpenOffice Writer, some characters are replaced by random characters. For example, this morning all capital "I"'s were replaced by "" (German special character), a "J" was replaced by "t", and so on. But not all characters are replaced, most are correct.

In addition, the top of the documents are cut off, as if there is an overly wide top margin where the printer cannot print.

I exported the document to PDF and printed from Acrobat Reader, and everything was fine. No problems!

I'm running the Lucid release candidate (but the problem has bugged me for a while now), with a Brother HL2030 printer.

I dont understand why. The previous version was OK. Is there any advice? Could I uninstall this version of OpenOffice (3.2) and return to the older one I used in Ubuntu 8.04?
