I installed KDE 4.4 through Ubuntu's repos and then upgraded to 4.5 via backport PPA. I am unable to unmount any USB device. It keeps saying it's in use by another application. Even if I plug it in and do nothing, but then try to unmount, it gives me this error?
View 6 RepliesI ran the ubuntu 11.04 live CD on my laptop that had an earlier version of ubuntu (9 maybe??). I really liked what I saw so I used the Install ubuntu 11.04 wizard and chose the option to override the earlier version. During the 'Importing document and settings' step a pop-up entitled Failed to unmount partitions. the body stated: migration-assistant needs to mount a partition, but cannot do so because the following mount partition could not be unmounted:
/dev/sda1
The only app showing on the taskbar is the Install. this is running from the live CD.
I figured I'd set up a test partition to test the waters before jumping head on to a full upgrade. I've created a new ext4 partition on my disk and marked it to be used as root for the install. Halfway through the installation an error message pops up saying it cannot unmount sda7 because it's in use, sda7 has nothing to do with the Natty install, it's the root partition of my main setup! I then aborted, rebooted and everything was fine with my main system, obviously the Natty install didn't take.
View 4 Replies View Relatedusing 'ntfs-config' to make ntfs partitions mount on bootup so that I can access my data partition from Ubuntu. The first time I installed ntfs-config it would not run. I uninstalled and reinstalled it and then it ran, but it didn't seem to be responding very well. I attempted to tick the partition I wanted and set it to be writeable. After I closed the app ALL my ntfs partitions were mounted, even the windows and system reserved partitions, and when I attempted to unmount them I got the following error:

Error unmounting: unmount exited with exit code 1:
helper failed with
unmount /dev/mapper/isw_dfjjdefcdi_RAID5p4 is not mounted (according to mtab)
I tried rebooting. I tried uninstalling ntfs-config, then reinstalling it (now it wont run again). So I'm at a loss as to what to do. I simply want my data partition mounted on boot up and writable, not the others.

I am getting this error while trying to unmount a partition , what should i do ?
I am using Fedora 10 x86_64.
Using Clonezilla to try to backup (as image) my partition. It gives me an error saying, "Error! No unmounted disk are found! To use clonezilla to save or clone a disk, the source disk must be unmounted! "
So I tried doing these commands: url. (2nd post down) but they didnt recognize the unmount command. Plus when I did mount to see what was mounted, i did NOT see an sda1 or anything like that. I got a bunch of other stuff. ?
Is there another command to unmount?
I have Puppy installed on an old laptop and one way or another I ended up with a file inside /usr/bin that has the Stale NFS file error. I've tried to look around for a way to fix it but all places I've looked have only been for the situation where it's on a drive you're able to unmount. At least I think they were. I certainly don't know what I'm doing well enough to know for sure. Obviously restarting the computer has been tried as well as attempting to unmount things, but I can't unmount the drive that is running the unmounting.

Having problems with external hard drives. I may be wrong, but I suspect they originated with an upgrade to 10.04 last Christmas. Around that time I also started using Amazon's S3 storage system, and, as a consequence, I stopped using my WD 80G external drive, previously used to backup my important files.
A week or so ago I decided to start using the WD drive again. I can't remember exactly what I did, but it wasn't happy - never caused any problems before. Details: Cannot unmount because file system on device is busy Assuming the device had died - it's about 5 years old - I bought a 160G Samsung S-Series drive - my but they do look neat! Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to have solved my problem. I plugged the new drive in, and it happily appeared on my desktop. It seemed a good idea at the time, but I then started to format the drive - using the default option of FAT. All went well at first, but then the format process stopped.
My new Samsung drive now seems to be operating pretty much as the WD device, I can't copy to the drive, and attempts to unmount it generate a response similar to what's happening with the WD drive. Currently, although plugged in, I can't see the drive on my desktop, although it appears under Places. I have a web application that runs on PHP and MySQL on opensuse 11.4 (web server) and opensuse 11.1 (database server).The web application uses a .htaccess file that causes my site to error with error "403 forbidden". If I add "+FollowSymLinks" at the top, it loads the application just fine.But problem is that I have an issue with the application, and they believe that my .htaccess file is at fault since it's custom. I hightly doubt it but wanted to eliminate that as a concern.

I'm trying to get an application started, but it just keeps throwing this error:
I know it's a Perl Error and the proper module is installed, but I'm assuming it just can't find it.
For awhile I have had this issue with the command line and every time I try to complete any command that requires GTK graphics, It always returns the error "Error: cannot open display: 0:" The "EXPORT display" command that I normally use to fix this issue is not working. The only issue that I can think might be the cause for this could be my upgrade to natty (which was in fact a clean installation), or when I edited plymouth so that the startup and shutdown animations would match my laptop's native resolution (by the way I would also appreciate it if I could do the same with the startup animation, only the shutdown really works). If anybody know how I could resolve this issue I would greatly appreciate it. Oh and for specifics on my machine, I am using an ASUS N82 with an NVIDIA GEFORCE GT335M graphics card, running Ubuntu 11.04.

After trying a few different flavors, I settled on Fedora XFCE, and installed v14 (i686) in a dual boot setting with Windows. I am running it on an HP laptop.I have had an issue ever since I installed a rather large list of updates a few days ago. One of which was a Linux kernel update to 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686 (not really sure if that is significant, but I noticed the issue after selecting this kernel version in the boot menu). Now, anytime I try to add software, or run the update utility I get the error message:Quote:You have failed to provide correct authentication. Please check any passwords or account settings.

I did a large update to F15 from an older version of F15. I am using x86_64. I could not reboot (will post separately on that issue). Rebooted the previous kernel in the KDE safe mode, and things look ok, except for NVIDIA CUDA code, which had been working perfectly:

I installed the .debs the first time and thought it might be wiser to install it from the experimental repos.So I reinstalled but there's no difference,I keep getting the error.
I reinstalled and found that the same error is caused by the installation for the dictionaries.I removed those but the error is still present.
I've seen people post this error on some forums except context=user and not bundle.However,it seems those were Windows 7 machines and that it's a 64 bit bug.
I'm also running the 64 bit version.
Also,if I try to install the desktop-integration .debs I get another error ( that is,if I remove the dictionaries,otherwise the installation runs just fine ) :
I am using OpenSuse 11.2 which I just installed. I was working on one QT application in OpenSuse 10.3 with few KColorButton in it and it was compiling fine under that dist. Now after copying the project to 11.2 environment , I can't make the project. It's now throwing linker error :

I have gone senile but what happened to the Unmount option when I right click on a Desktop CD icon in 10.04? I only wanted to make an ISO image and K3B says it cannot unmount the CD. I don't want to Eject it. I have a clever idea! I will add Mount Manager to the panel. Mount Manager should be called Eject Manager because that is all it does!! Even Krusader seems to have lost its ability to unmount a device.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a platform independent compiler. so, i created the common api's and platform api's using my complier. so i have this library files named cmn_api.a & platform_api.a in my auto/linjtag/lib.(they will be created when we run the makefile of the compiler).
The problem is when i'm trying to run the console application of my compiler. i have a menu.c from which i choose different modes and i operated on that.

I'm running Dovecot version dovecot-1.0.7 on CentOS 5.4. I'm trying to create subfolders and I can't. I've tried Mac's mail application and Thunderbird; they both come up with an error, basically saying that the server doesn't support level one folders(subfolders). Squirrelmail can't create subfolders neither. I did some reading and thought that perhaps the problem lies in the /etc/dovecot.conf file; specifically with the "mail_location" directive. I currently don't have that directive active which means Dovecot uses defaults settings: saving users' mail in the %u/mail folder. Is there any way to configure Dovecot to use subfolders?
