I have a fresh install of ubuntu. I am trying to load some new packages but I think I need internet connection. The issue is I cannot connect to the internet I think I need to setup a network package so I can connect to the internet? This is the first time I have used linux.

I can connect to my access point to surf internet. I setup my Dlink access point (password, network name, etc) in Vista by visiting "http://dlinkap/" in my web browser.
In ubuntu, I can connect and surf the web/internet but i cannot access the setup page.
When I try to type the "http://dlinkap/" to my browser then the browser will redirect it to google search.
I try 192.168.1.1, I can access my linksys router. but my dlink access point, i cannot access the setup page.

a) Through my wlan0 --> Internet DSL

b) Through my eth0 --> WUG - PTAWUG
I can only get one of the networks to work at 'n time. The wlan0 works fine when I start my PC, but when I want to access the WUG I need to do the following command:

with the above command, I can then access the WUG but not the internet through my wlan anymore.all data goes to my wlan as standard unless its on the 172.16.0.0 network

I'm using virtual network (NAT network) for my domU.When I change dom0's firewall setup, the domU will fail to connect to Internet anymore.So far, the only way to bring the network back is reboot dom0 !I try to restart service network and libvirtd on dom0 ... it doesn't work.How can I bring the domU network back without reboot dom0 ?

OKay i installed the brand new OPENSUSE DVD, everything installed ok, but then i got to the internet problem, well connection problem. 1. I am going through a router to a att dsl modem. so i use a static ip as my desktop and my xbox 360 are both connected and both working fine, the router is a linksys etherfast cable/dsl router. my labtop is a acer with a realtek family Ethernet series model. so i tried just about everything and nothing works, so i switched to traditional and turned off the network manager, and it tried to load smpdd or something and couldnt get it from the dvd drive that was mounted even though i had used the drive 10 minutes ago to INSTALL THE OS. so them i went back to square one and tried a reinstall, but when i try to setup the connection on the install, the ip static doesnt work, i even plugged the thing directly into the modem and went to automatic dhcp settings- and still nothing.

I don't want users visiting porn sites or any other nonsense, and if they do, I want to know about it. Is there a good program that the administrator can set up to report this kind of thing or at least track it? Obviously, this would need to track all websites visited regardless of the application/browser used, and would need to be completely inaccessible to users. I don't want them having the ability to turn it off or circumvent it somehow.

Today, I have an ADSL box which is my gateway to internet (192.168.0.1).
I have a Raspberry pi (RPI) which I use as a dhcp & dns server (192.168.0.2).
Recently my mobile phone operator installed a 4G antenna beside my home, and the bandwidth and latency are much better with my mobile phone than with my internet provider (ADSL).
I would like to install a wifi dongle on my RPI (I would get wlan0 & eth0 interfaces)
When RPI detect my shared phone connection (tethering) I would like RPI to automatically route internet:
- from authorized devices on my network to my mobile connexion (wlan0 -> mobile phone).
- from other devices to the standard ADSL internet (eth0 -> ADSL box).
I don't want any device to use the shared 4G connexion, best would be authorized devices to be selected by MAC address. How I should properly setup such a network ?

Here are the instructions I followed to setup iphonemodem2 to work under Fedora 10: Download iPhoneModem2 from a jailbroken iphone using Cydia. Create a new wireless network on Fedora with the following settings:
a) SSID = "iPhoneModem"
b) Mode = Ad-hoc
c) IPv4 Method = Automatic (DHCP)
Connect laptop and iphone to new wireless network. Start iphonemodem app on iphone. The "traffic" does not update; the "status" says "Wrong Wifi Network"; and the signal strength says 0%. However, the network connection should be there as long as you have a data signal to your service provider.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen using Fedora in VMWare, sometimes I can connect to the internet and sometimes I cannot. I do nothing differently on different days. I restart the machine and / or shut the machine down at the end of the day. When the machine starts back up the next time, I might have an internet connection or I might not have an internet connection. The 2 computer symbol that appears in the top will also sometimes be displayed. If I have that icon and click on it, it will display connections I can use including a sys one. I have a bridged connection chosen in VMWare also. Furthermore, when I click on the System -> Administration -> Network Device Control, 'eth0' is listed and it is listed as 'active'.
Yesterday I could ping out to a specific ip address on our network ( 192.168.1.xxx ). Now, I cannot ping that same ip address. I receive an error 'Destination host unreachable'.
How can I make it so that I have the internet connection every time I start up the machine? What do I need to check as far as the internet connection goes and the network connection?
The installation of Ubuntu 9.10 on my HP NC640 worked fine and the network adaptor was successfully recognised: I see the message 'Wired Network Connection 'Auto Eth0' active' and when I open Active Network Connections I see the IP addresses that have been assigned.
However, if I open Firefox, I cannot connect to the internet. I tried pinging some addresses (www.yahoo.com) and that seemed fine. I then tried to run a first system update and Ubuntu seemed to be able to retrieve some packages but not others.
I then tried opening 'Network Connections' and adjusted the MTU (to 1100) and changing the settings of IPv6 (various settings: eg. 'ignore') but none of that seemed to help. Here I wanted to switch off IPv6 but it looks like none of the settings did this. Is there maybe another place where I should be looking? Do I have to do this with the command line? (I hope not) Or can I switch off IPv6 in the system settings? And should MTU be automatic? Or should I set something there?
Just purchased a Dell Inspiron 580 MT tower pc with Windows Professional. However unable to connect to the network or the internet when I load a copy of Ubuntu Karmic on dual boot. Windows networking and internet working fine. Is this an ethernet adaptor hardware issue? Broadcom NetXtreme 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet controller-PCI Express card Will try later connecting through a usb ethernet adaptor to see if this is really the problem.

At first my computer didn't seem to see the card at all, but then I typed the command (sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source) and then restarted the computer and now I'm connected to the network, but cannot connect to the internet so how do I figure this out. Like I said I have very little experience with linux at all so please don't make your answers too complicated.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I've recently installed Kubuntu 10.04, and after the first and second runs, the system refuses to connect to the network/internet. I'm not sure why this is, or how to fix it. It shows up in ifconfig, but other than that I'm at a loss. The Knetworkmanager applet says "Disabled" when I hover over it, and no connection can be made to the internet (apt, Firefox). I'm running x86, with a Biostar T5XE mainboard (Realtek RTL8168D/8111D network chipset). The logs don't seem to indicate a problem, though I could be wrong. The connection is known good: it connected before, but it won't now.

And can not get my network setup correctly to allow people to connect externally from my LAN. I have forwarded every relevant port I could find to the computer hosting TS, I forwarded them first as their respective protocols, and then as the combined UDP/TCP. I tried Forwarding single port numbers, and then port ranges.I have also tried uninstalling selinux.I have tried connecting directly to my cable modem with the server.I had this working perfectly three months ago with all the same software, using the same guide I listed above.The only thing I can imagine has changed is my operating system itself with system updates.

Comcast cable modem--->Netgear WNR3500L Router----->Ubuntu 10.04 x86 desktop edition
what else I could possibly check? I can connect to and manage the TS server fine using localhost:9987 or 192.168.1.x:9987, it just wont allow any connections from outside the network.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had a heck of a time trying to get my laptop running ubuntu to connect to my home network. I have managed to get it to work at my university which would seemingly be more difficult than getting it to work at home, so I know for a fact it isn't a hardware or driver issue. If I try to connect via ethernet cable from my router, it detects that I connected the cable but says "disconnected" and never lets me connect. If I SKIP the router and go from my modem directly to my laptop via ethernet cable it works great.
Using the wireless network tool I can see all of the wireless connections in my area. When I go to connect to my network it prompts me for the WEP key and when I enter it and hit connect it just keeps cycling and eventually times out and finally again prompts me for my WEP key. I know this network works as it works just fine on my Windows 7 partition. Another interesting note - both my wireless and ethernet connections both worked flawlessly and stoopid easily on the live cd but don't after the full install.
If I manually enter in the information for my wireless through IPv4 settings and enter in the Address,Netmask and gateway I can connect to my network - but then I have no active internet connection. Same deal with my wired connection. Is this because choosing this manual method grays out the DHCP?
