View 3 RepliesI recently installed F12 on my main notebook and ever since the fan has been running at full speed (or near full speed). According to the 'sensors' command I usually have temperatures between 50-70. I didn't have this problem before the installation.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNo error message given and system still works. Same result on Ubuntu, Chrunchbang and Fedora 12. Maximum speed 533 but size is recognised. Tried on another machine all is well.Errant hardware is ASRock N68-S with AMD AthlonX2 5050e. Stated as compatible on the asrock ref.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq 8710w and after upgrading to the latest Debian/testing (Linux version 4.1.0-1-amd64)the fan runs at full speed all the time. There seems to be something strange with the temperatures reported by temp4, it is stuck at 100 degrees.:
Code: Select allroot@...:~# sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +16.0°C (crit = +105.0°C)
temp2: +38.0°C (crit = +105.0°C)
temp3: +22.6°C (crit = +110.0°C)
temp4: +100.0°C (crit = +110.0°C)
temp5: +37.0°C (crit = +110.0°C)

I found this related problem: URL... . Note that here the problem is that the fan does not spin and that temp4 reports 0 degrees.
I'm fairly new to fedora. I used Fedora 14 on a virtual machine just to mess around with it a little while back but thats about it. As far as linux goes, I just test a bunch but can never seem to pull myself away from windows. I am hoping this is the time but these issues are the weirdest I've seen on any linux distro ever. My GPU (Radeon 5750) is running at 69C idle and the fan is at full speed. I am not overclocking it at all and I'm using the default drivers that came with fedora. It works just fine in windows and a lot cooler. How can I fix this?
I'm running the Gnome 3 desktop version, which I am also getting some graphics artifacts. In the bottom bar I get a dashed white line that comes up every time I boot and goes away when I make the bar expand. Also in the applications window I get the same dashed line at the top of the window and sometimes the top of the scroll bar. So far I really like Gnome 3 (Idk why everyone is whining about it) and I'd like to stick with Fedora, and linux for that matter
one of my Evga GeForce 9500 GT's fan started acting up today. It is wobbling, vibrating loudly, and not spinning at full speed. And while I believe the card is still under warranty, I'd rather just buy a new fan and put it inmyself avoiding the hassle of sending it back and waiting for a replacement (and most likely refurbished) one. That being said, does anyone know where I could buy just the fan? Google has turned up nothing so far but the numbers on the fan are A4010-45LB-2UN-C1 and FA7C0412MA-SBNNA but I have no idea what these numbers are; the manufacturer is Cooler Master.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from FC12 to FC14 and now the system/case fan blows full speed constantly. I also moved from i386-PAE to am64.
The CPUs are cool, the machine is basically idle, and the fan noise is really annoying (and blowing cool air).
In FC12 the fan would auto-adjust with CPU load. This is not the case now.
I ran sensors-detect and it doesn't seem to find my fans:
[root@pangea modprobe.d]# sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +40.0C (crit = +75.0C)
k8temp-pci-00c3
Adapter: PCI adapter
code....
I don't remember ever having to even run sensors-detect in FC12. I searched the board for a bit and didn't see any solutions. I'll attach the full output from sensors-detect.
Despite the fact that Ubuntu 9.10 boots up faster than its predecessors (I didn't time the boot up myself, so I can't say for sure), my Ubuntu laptop still takes around 50 seconds to boot up fully. Now I'm not happy with that, and I want it to boot up even faster.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed on this laptop two OS : Windows XP SP3 with drivers for M11 from Toshiba download site Fedora 14 64 bits I have no problem running Windows but sometimes when I run Fedora I hear fan starting to run at full speed then computer hangs. When this occurs, I must power off it using switch then reboot and I lost my work. I try to run Memtest86 during a full night and I did not get any error or hang.
Is there somebody who already installed Fedora 14 on Toshiba Tecra M11? kernel is 2.6.35.10-74.fc14.x86_64 and my graphic card worked fine with hardware acceleration out of the box.

I'm curious if there are any tools that can help speed up the time it takes for my computer to boot up. I've used different utilities to help my Vista boot up time, so I'm curious if the same sort of things are available for Ubuntu.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAre there any easy special tricks to speed up the boot time?Coming from Linux Mint (GNOME), I could get to the Desktop from cold in less than 25 secs. Now in openSuse 11.3 (KDE4.5) it takes more than twice that.Is this a function of KDE or have Ubuntu done something that openSuse hasn't to speed up the boot?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was wondering how to calculate some problems related to network transfer speed. If someone can show me a function to calculate network transfer speed over time, I would appreciate it.I'm in the midst of transferring 1.3TB of data to a network storage system. By looking at the stats, 4.6GB file transferred out in 6 min and 30 seconds. How long would it take to transfer 1.3TB of data?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am working on an embedded system, which is an USB MSC device that supports some vendor specific scsi commands. I am using FC10 laptop as USB host for testing, and it runs some small apps based on sg3. All has been well for ~ a week. The FC10 laptop is able to communicate with the device and retrieve data. Suddenly, starting from today, the laptop is not able to properly detect the device. When plugged-in, the MSC device is detected as input device (I thought). This is observed from "dmesg" output and changes in "/dev/input/".The device under development is running at full speed. When I connect to winXP, no problem. A windows file explorer pops up, showing the content of the drive. Also, the FC10 has no problem with other USB flash drive (high speed).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a strange problem with KDE, to which there may be no solution but thought I'd ask anyway. I play several games (Neverball, several MAME games and even ZSNES and others) and it seems that if I have desktop effects turned on, KWIN will crash every time I exit a full screen game such as those mentioned above and others. If I disable desktop effects before starting the game, everything is fine. The games themselves run fine while desktop effects are enabled, I don't have to remember to disable desktop effects before clicking on a game.

Ubuntu 64bit. The sound system works and plays noises correctly when I test the speakers in sound preferances. The internet BBCi player(Radio) plays sound correctly. Banshee & Rhythmbox try to play music files at double, or more, speed with no sound output. Spotify Linux version also tries to playback at double speed with no sound output. Media Player attempts to play music files at high speed. Media player plays the Video and audio tracks at high speed. VLC Will play the video at normal speed but with no audio.

This obnoxious bar has just appeared in Smplayer at the top of the screen. It stays there even when I go full screen. Now full screen isn't full screen and there are black edges on both sides of the screen. I have not be able to figure out how to hide it. I do not need or want this onscreen display. How can I configure Smplayer to make this go away? How can I get my 16:9 full screen aspect ratio back? I have done nothing to mplayer or smplayer as far as editing any or changing any configuration files. I tried several videos and it displays on all of them. It was not there last time I used Smplayer.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy server is showing as 95% full, but when I check any folders underneath and files, they add up to about only a few percentage of the space.
- /tmp - 2GB LUN
- currently using 1.8GB of the 2GB
- files in the directory add up to only 50MB (I've checked for hidden files as well.. 'ls -lah'
Anyway else of telling how /tmp can have so much usage when there appears there is hardly anything in it?
What will happen to the server if /tmp is full?
It takes me a while to log in the splash screen just sits there for ages before i get to the desktop. Never used to be this slow and I'm not sure why. Firstly, I'm running Ubuntu 11.04, standard DE. I do have conky starting up in a script but it has the & at the end of the line so I didn't think this would cause it (or is there some special case for log in time on how & is treated?). However as a test I will comment out the line in the script and see if it is the cause.
However just for general knowledge and in case that isn't the problem, how does one go seeing what is happening during the time from when one log's in and the desktop is displayed? Is there some kind of log that shows the date/time that can be enabled or is there a debug mode that can be enabled somehow via special keys or maybe from grub?
I have several file servers in our offices and I am relatively new to Ubuntu / Linux. I get notices that there are updates for the server software from time to time. Is it typical to update everything when available or should I follow "If it ain't broke, don't fix it..." mentality?I would hate for everything to be working fine and then have an update throw me a curve.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running my Ubuntu 32 bit server on top of Windows 7 64 bit with VirualBox. It's a 2 core Atom. It's been working good for about half a year. But the last about 6 weeks the system time only in Ubuntu is going slow. About -8 per 24 hours! I can only guess because I have more things running in my Windows 7 and Ubuntu.
I can set it right by coping the hareware time to system time with this command:
Code:
hwclock --hctosys
I want to run a crontab to have that command run every minute. But it don't seem to run.
