No error message given and system still works. Same result on Ubuntu, Chrunchbang and Fedora 12. Maximum speed 533 but size is recognised. Tried on another machine all is well.Errant hardware is ASRock N68-S with AMD AthlonX2 5050e. Stated as compatible on the asrock ref.

i have a failing hdd and need to run ubuntu from a usb stick instead of normal.i dont need to know how to have a live image on a usb stick and install to the hdd cause i dont have a hdd that works (or the money to buy a new one) what i need to know is if there is a way for me to run a full featured install of ubuntu from my usb stick.by full featured i mean, able to save options and general usage and not the "try" feeling of a live os.
btw the reason for all this is having a computer telling me all the time since installing ubuntu 9.10 that i have many bad sectors.when trying to erase the whole hdd with dnk (dariks nuke somthhing) i get the same message so i dont think its a scam (read about a bug in 9.10 causing working hardware to look like failing)i really need some help.also if anyone knows if theres a way to make a bad sectored hdd work again.
I recently installed F12 on my main notebook and ever since the fan has been running at full speed (or near full speed). According to the 'sensors' command I usually have temperatures between 50-70. I didn't have this problem before the installation.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to work out how to get a "full" debian installer (ie, not a netinst installer but as much as you'd find on say, the first CD) onto a bootable USB stick.Most of the tutorials I've seen work with the netboot installers only.The installer works until the "Detect and mount CD-ROM" step where it wants to mount a CD drive. Won't accept /dev/sdb or whatever device the USB stick is.

I have a Compaq 8710w and after upgrading to the latest Debian/testing (Linux version 4.1.0-1-amd64)the fan runs at full speed all the time. There seems to be something strange with the temperatures reported by temp4, it is stuck at 100 degrees.:

I'm fairly new to fedora. I used Fedora 14 on a virtual machine just to mess around with it a little while back but thats about it. As far as linux goes, I just test a bunch but can never seem to pull myself away from windows. I am hoping this is the time but these issues are the weirdest I've seen on any linux distro ever. My GPU (Radeon 5750) is running at 69C idle and the fan is at full speed. I am not overclocking it at all and I'm using the default drivers that came with fedora. It works just fine in windows and a lot cooler. How can I fix this?
I'm running the Gnome 3 desktop version, which I am also getting some graphics artifacts. In the bottom bar I get a dashed white line that comes up every time I boot and goes away when I make the bar expand. Also in the applications window I get the same dashed line at the top of the window and sometimes the top of the scroll bar. So far I really like Gnome 3 (Idk why everyone is whining about it) and I'd like to stick with Fedora, and linux for that matter
one of my Evga GeForce 9500 GT's fan started acting up today. It is wobbling, vibrating loudly, and not spinning at full speed. And while I believe the card is still under warranty, I'd rather just buy a new fan and put it inmyself avoiding the hassle of sending it back and waiting for a replacement (and most likely refurbished) one. That being said, does anyone know where I could buy just the fan? Google has turned up nothing so far but the numbers on the fan are A4010-45LB-2UN-C1 and FA7C0412MA-SBNNA but I have no idea what these numbers are; the manufacturer is Cooler Master.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from FC12 to FC14 and now the system/case fan blows full speed constantly. I also moved from i386-PAE to am64.
The CPUs are cool, the machine is basically idle, and the fan noise is really annoying (and blowing cool air).
In FC12 the fan would auto-adjust with CPU load. This is not the case now.
I ran sensors-detect and it doesn't seem to find my fans:

I don't remember ever having to even run sensors-detect in FC12. I searched the board for a bit and didn't see any solutions. I'll attach the full output from sensors-detect.
I installed on this laptop two OS : Windows XP SP3 with drivers for M11 from Toshiba download site Fedora 14 64 bits I have no problem running Windows but sometimes when I run Fedora I hear fan starting to run at full speed then computer hangs. When this occurs, I must power off it using switch then reboot and I lost my work. I try to run Memtest86 during a full night and I did not get any error or hang.
Is there somebody who already installed Fedora 14 on Toshiba Tecra M11? kernel is 2.6.35.10-74.fc14.x86_64 and my graphic card worked fine with hardware acceleration out of the box.

I am working on an embedded system, which is an USB MSC device that supports some vendor specific scsi commands. I am using FC10 laptop as USB host for testing, and it runs some small apps based on sg3. All has been well for ~ a week. The FC10 laptop is able to communicate with the device and retrieve data. Suddenly, starting from today, the laptop is not able to properly detect the device. When plugged-in, the MSC device is detected as input device (I thought). This is observed from "dmesg" output and changes in "/dev/input/".The device under development is running at full speed. When I connect to winXP, no problem. A windows file explorer pops up, showing the content of the drive.Also, the FC10 has no problem with other USB flash drive (high speed).

Banshee & Rhythmbox try to play music files at double, or more, speed with no sound output. Spotify Linux version also tries to playback at double speed with no sound output. Media Player attempts to play music files at high speed. Media player plays the Video and audio tracks at high speed. VLC Will play the video at normal speed but with no audio.

For the life of me, after much googling, I can't get them to work. the ehci_hcd, uhci_hcd and ohci_hcd modules are not loaded, but those were from some old posts, and I don't know how relevant they are to me.But if I insert the usb before startup, ubuntu now recognises and automounts any usb device.before the recent kernel update ( **.2 my wifi dongle would be recognised. but after,it seems as it too isn't being recognised.for the meantime, I am keeping a small unused usb device plugged in the back of the tower.

The new computer will boot from other CDs, as I have an older Windows XP boot disk and that works just fine.What else can be wrong...??? Is the image valid? My computer has two optical disk drives but SUSE only recognises the newer one which is an NEC DVD/RW drive. The other one is older and both were recognised when I had Windows 7 on this computer

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 3g data card(LW272 GSM/WCDMA USB Modem with HSPADataCard) which is a type of multi-mode, 3G modem or card, applicable to 2G/3G networks; but it doesn't get recognised in Ubuntu 9.10. Actually, this device came with a software(for linux too) which makes calls and sms possible simultaneously while surfing. But while installation(from root terminal) i see a repeated trials of connecting to modem but it does not find the device(something wrong in installation), and the interface of the software also shows "No(U) Sim". Anyhow it doesn't bother me much if i m not able to avail the additional services( call and sms), but what i need is to make the modem recognisable so that i could configure the connection.

During the first boot Fedora 12 does not recognise my Wireless LAN Card and stops (Freezes) in that part of the first boot sequence. I have tried switching the LAN OFF in the Bios and also switching it off(There is an On/Off switch on the Wirless LAN card. Neither of those actions fixed the problem.

Ubuntu version: Karmic Koala (ubuntu 9.10)I've been fiddling arround quite some time with this card. So far i established the following:
1. Card is supported by drivers already available in kernel (v4l, v4l(2)).
2. Card is recognised by Skype as well as by gstreamer. However gstreamer gives me mostly greeen screen when i test it. no propper picture. both found it on video1 (video0 is webcam).
3. I know it is supposed to work well in Linux URL...instructions are for fedora here.
4. there are quite a few tutorial for this card online (even ubuntu), however they are for older version and most of them consist of getting new drivers installed (which are already included with Karmic).
TV Time - blank screen - it is trying to get video from video0 device, which is webcam. i can not set it to use video1 instead as when i click in the menu to change input nothing happens.VLC player - i select use device and set it to V4l or PVR. in both cases the programme itself switches to video0 and turns on my webcam. Nothing else happens. I also installed iv-tv including all necessary libraries and dependancies - as suggested as solution to similar model of card. Didn't change anyhting. it's basically the only thing that is not working yet (most other things i already solved-sort of). I am also interested why the programmes keep switching automaticly to video0 for input when i clearly state to them to use video1?!If this can not be solved can anyone suggest another cheap TV tunner that "just works" in Ubuntu (including remote control)?! I have a big monitor and i think i could use it as TV instead of getting a new TV....
