Jul 22, 2011
I am using ubuntu 9.1 on evaluation board and my internet is not working. Also I need to install softwares and apt-get install is also not working.
Under /etc/apt/apt.conf....I have configured as below..
Acquire::http:roxy "http://usernameasswd@proxyserver:8080/";
Acquire::ftp:roxy "ftp://usernameasswd@proxyserver:8080/";
Acquire::https:roxy "https://usernameasswd@proxyserver:8080/";
If I do ifconfig...inet address was not configured and I forcefully configured it using
sudo ifconfig eth2 10.246.80.15 up.

I have a "hp Pavilion Entertainment PC" and I just put 10.04 on it and the internet won't work. It has a separate button that you touch not click or push that lights up red when off and blue when on. It's currently stuck on red and will not connect with my wireless net work. This laptop is used by my family and my personal laptop is working fine. I took a picture of the screen after install and it shows errors. I need step by step help on this one. I have the picture I took with my camera. It was black with reflections and I use gimp to help it look better. Don't be alarm with the background. The problem is that it is 2420x1044 pixels.

I just installed Linux Ubuntu Desktop Edition on my Acer Aspire T671-TB7Z, the installation went smooth but the internet is not working. When I login the background blinks 3 times, and I can't move the mouse, after that I can. But the real problem is I am not very experienced with Linux but the wireless icon does show up and I can access wireless networks, I am connected, but when I load a page on Firefox it says it is on "work offline" so I unticked it and tried again. Nothing worked again, this is weird because I am using it now to post this thread on my sisters netbook and on the pc that has the problem has Windows 7 Ultimate as a dual boot and the internet works fine on that too, the only internet problem I have is linux.

I'm trying to create a flash drive that I can use on my laptop to boot into ubuntu. I followed the instructions on the download page to create le usb drive and was successful.My problem is that whenever i install my nvidia drivers, my internet completely stops working. Both wired and wireless work fine on a fresh install. I can reboot and try again and they both still work. While installing the nvidia drivers however they both stop working, and upon a reboot they still aren't working. I can connect via my desktop and my phone to the same access point i'm trying to go through on my laptop, so the problem is isolated to my laptop.

i did install opensuse and everything ok; i did configure it to be the server and gateway for a little office network Everything seems to be ok most of the time but sometimes (usually between 5 and 7 pm each day) internet stops working and there is no way to let it start again. So i turn off the suse, switch all cables to the old fedora server, just turn it on fedora and internet works. Turn off fedora, connect suse, let it start and everythng ok...it happens all the times

I am trying to connect my desktop to my laptop over a non-internet connected LAN, but when i enable the LAN connection on my desktop (the one with the wireless) its internet stops working.
it is a very similar problem to this except that i am using ubuntu for the machine with the two connections.
right now i have my wireless on the 192.168.1.* address space, while the LAN is to be on 192.168.5.*
note: my goal is not to share internet with my laptop, just be able to connect to it and the internet at the same time.
desktop: ubuntu 9.10 , wireless and LAN
laptop: windows xp, LAN only

I recently installed ubuntu on my mom's computer but I can't get the mouse to move trough the touch pad and I suspect the USB is not working either, because I can't get anything to work trough the USB, and the Internet is not working trough the cable, and I think wireless as well. Her computer is an old acer aspire 3000

I have been looking around the forums searching for similar problems, it seems not only me had this problem. About a month ago I did a regular update via Upd Manager. The next day - no wired connection.Still managable, since the local library has wireless. Now that won't work either.Just after I upgraded from Jaunty, I accidentally removed NetwMngr from the top right corner of the screen, but that should not have anything to do with how the program works, right? I now cannot reach NM, if I run it from the terminal, nothing happens visibly.

I have a Dell Latitude D530 Laptop (500 GB HDD). Installed Windows XP and then Ubuntu 10.10 to do dual boot. everything works fine in Windows XP.In Ubuntu 10.10 I had issues connecting to Internet(Through Wirelss), I was able to rectify this issue by dsiable ipv6 from firefox about:config and setting true to network.dns.disableIPv6. After this I was able to connect to internet and browse websites from Firefox.But I am having Issues with Evolution Mail(Connection Timed Out) and Google Talk Client(Connection Timed Out).Empathy Internet Messaging gets connected fine.I was wondering if I will have to disable IPv6 System wide and hence I added the following lines to /etc/sysctl.conf
#disable ipv6
net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1
[code]....

I have a strange problem for internet. My clients (winxp - S2) can't get internet.Let me explain my scenerios. Fedora 10 with lan (eth0) having direct internet from dsl model, client (XP service pack 2) can use samba shares using dhcp (wlan0) installed in Fedora 10 box. client can ping my linux box.Now problem is: client (dosbox) can ping the google ip address (i.e ping 74.125.39.106) but can't use 'ping www.google.com'. That means ping with ip works for internet from my client. My linux box can. I can use internet from FC10 but can't use iexplorer from my client to have internet. I have enable ipmasquarding in Firewall and dhcpd is running on wlan0 for dynamic ip address of my clients.Can someone suggest me what kind of problem having I? What should i do to success iexplorer for internet? what possibly am i missing?

Now, lets make this clear: I am a COMPLETE linux noob. I only installed ubuntu today (dual booting with Windows 7). The thing is, my wireless is working perfectly in windows. However, I can't get it to work in Ubuntu. It detects my internet, but refuses to connect. I'm 100% sure that I have used the right password.I have an Atheros AR5007 wifi adapter. I'm liking the look of Ubuntu, but if I can't solve this it's pretty much useless to me.

I have been looking around and it seems that having a wireless USB network to connect to the internet is difficult on Ubuntu.
All I know is that it seems that my wireless linksys network card is a WUSB600N Anyone that has any commands they want me to put in my terminal I can tell you but from other forums I try to put many in and get no output simply because I believe I do not have the drivers but do not fully know how to even install these drivers in the terminal or am not doing something right.

Often i have an active connection on the tree network with an internet dongle according networkmanager, but ping is not working and firefox and thunderbird also don't have a connection. Skype however is working at that time. (testcall to skype is working) My present solution is to disconnect and connect a couple of times again until i can ping a commonserver on the internet, and then everything is working normal. Many are stating networkmanager is buggy, is this a known bug and is it worked on or do i need to install another program. Has any of you an idea what could be going on and how to solve it, permanently. In the way it's automatically right when connecting.
My dongle is of type: Huawei E 1550 and often i have a normal connection.

I am trying to set up a basic router. I am running ubuntu server 10.04(just installed it today!) I have a verizon aircard(mobile broadband card) that is connected via usb. I am using wvdial to "dial-up" the connection. This works just fine and gives me a device on ppp0. There is a single lan connection on eth0 set up as a static ip address under /etc/network/interfaces. I don't even have any firewall running yet. For whatever reason, I can only get out on the internet when eth0 is set to get its ip address through dhcp. When I set it up with a static ip, I get for example:
$ping 4.2.2.2
From 192.168.1.1 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable.
$ping google.com
ping: unknown host google.com
If, however, after I have booted and the wvdial has been started, I set up eth0 as dhcp, run /etc/init.d/networking restart, set it back as static, run /etc/init.d/networking restart again, all work well. When I reboot the system with the static ip on eth0, and connect to wvdial, I get no internet again.

I recently did a fresh install of 10.04 from 9.04 and since then I am unable to use Internet. However my ethernet connection is working fine, as I am able to login to modem and check configuration. I reinstalled twice, downloaded fresh 64-bit & 32-bit and also followed kernel update steps as in few forum posts, but no joy. The firefox is throwing an error "The connection has timed out". My internet connection is working fine as I am able to use my Windows Laptop to post this message. I checked system > administration > hardware drivers and couldn't find any unsupported hardwares.I had similar issue when upgrading to 9.10, hence stayed on 9.04. When I looked at LTS image, I couldn't resist and cleaned up 9.04.

I recently installed Ubuntu (normal version) on to my netbook (Samsung N140) and I'm sharing my wireless connection over ethernet to my desktop using the method outlined in the Ubuntu wiki on ICS.
However, I do Ruby on Rails development, so run a local server on the netbook. I found out yesterday while working remotely that I cannot access 'localhost:3000' while I have no internet connection, and I get an error about 'sendmsg: operation not permitted' if I try to ping localhost. Likewise, I cannot access 127.0.0.1 the same way.

My internet works fine if I plug directly into the modem, but if I go through the router either using ethernet or wireless it doesn't work. I can access the router perfectly when using wireless and change settings and all that but cant access the internet. From what I've read it isn't a DNS issue because I cant get a result from pinging an ip, so I think it may be something firewall related but I'm unsure.
