View 3 Repliesi really like opensuse because it looks cool, heard it has th ebest kde out there, and seems very professional compard to ubuntu and kubuntu and minti have one problem stopping me from using kde, and its in all versions.i use a pppoe connection, and in gnome i simply right go to edit connections, DSL, make new dsl, enter my information, set to connect automaticcly, go to auto eht0 disable connect automaticcly, boom internet at startup. i cant find out how to make a pppoe connection in opensuse at all in fact.the DSL in internet manager is greyed out.this should be something very simple to do, how do i go about doing it?
View 9 Replies View Relatedi did install opensuse and everything ok; i did configure it to be the server and gateway for a little office network Everything seems to be ok most of the time but sometimes (usually between 5 and 7 pm each day) internet stops working and there is no way to let it start again. So i turn off the suse, switch all cables to the old fedora server, just turn it on fedora and internet works. Turn off fedora, connect suse, let it start and everythng ok...it happens all the times

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm needing Internet Explorer 7-8 to access 1 web site (there had to be one and I need to access it.) I have installed the ies4linix which has successfully got Explorer 6 working, but the beta for 7 doesn't work.
The Explorer 7 opens up fine, the world spins around and at the bottom of the page the solid blue gets half way and stops. I don't know what to do next.
Has anyone successfully got Explorer 7 or 8 working on 11.1? If so can you let me know how you did it?
I have a "hp Pavilion Entertainment PC" and I just put 10.04 on it and the internet won't work. It has a separate button that you touch not click or push that lights up red when off and blue when on. It's currently stuck on red and will not connect with my wireless net work. This laptop is used by my family and my personal laptop is working fine. I took a picture of the screen after install and it shows errors. I need step by step help on this one. I have the picture I took with my camera. It was black with reflections and I use gimp to help it look better. Don't be alarm with the background. The problem is that it is 2420x1044 pixels.

Just recently installed Opensuse 11.2 in a KDE environment. The problem I am facing is that when I connect it to my network either via wired or wirless neither getting internet or access to the network although the network manager shows the connection as active
I am using a Dlink Di-524 Wireless Router at home
The Wirless router for the computer is Broadcom BCM 4312
Was able to install the drivers for this from the packman repository
Also when I connect my laptop directly to the internet connection via wired it is working fine. However if i connect it to my wireless router either over wifi or thru wired it just shows connected but i can neither access internet or other computers on the network.
Have checked the wireless router other computers (windows and ubuntu are being able to access the internet via it)
Results of my ifconfig-a command when i am connected over my wirless connection code...
I'm new to OpenSuSE and have just booted up an Acer Aspire 4736z laptop with the 11.2 livecd. All of the specs (gathered from lspci -n) are available here: Debian HCL - Acer / Aspire 4736Z. Wired internet does not work. I have tried `modprobe atl1e` then `service network restart`to no effect. NetworkManager says nothing is plugged in (perhaps a hotplugging issue?). eth0 is listed in ifconfig.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just installed openSuse 11.2, but my network connection isn't working. I'm new to linux so i don't know how to approach this problem and how to diagnose what's the problem. Few information about my system: I have Asus X51L laptop with KDE installed. I have cable internet wired to laptop via ethernet network card. In Windows XP my connection is working without problems, but in Suse I have problemsThe main problem is when I enter Suse PC light (on modem) is not working, and it should blink (at least in Windows does). Cable and power light is turned on, and that's good.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've installed opensuse 11.2 on an old IBM thinkpad. The install went without a hitch and when I got to the desktop I inserted my Dlink DWL-G132 wireless USB adapter. Opensuse immediately recognised that a wireless device was attached and I could see my wireless network listed. I entered my WPA password and was able to connect to my routers configuration page by entering 192.168.0.1 in the URL bar of firefox. For some reason I am unable to navigate to any webpage. When I enter a URL firefox acts as though there is no internet connection. The only way I can get the internet on my laptop is to connect it to my router with a cable. I used a wired connection and ran the update utility thinking that perhaps an update would fix the issue but it did not. I know the adapter works because the laptop used to have windows xp installed and I could connect fine with that.
Does anyone here have any idea why I would be able to connect wirelessly to the routers configuration page but not to the internet? I appreciate any advice anyone may have.
recently ran into a problem with my internet access. Im using open suse 11.2 on a Dell Vostro 1520 laptop. I managed to get my wlan running and i can use firefox to access my router. In my router the laptop is also showing as connnected, dhcp reserved an ip for it.However if i try to browse the internet, no page is loading, actually no software that needs access to the web is working.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Linux Ubuntu Desktop Edition on my Acer Aspire T671-TB7Z, the installation went smooth but the internet is not working. When I login the background blinks 3 times, and I can't move the mouse, after that I can. But the real problem is I am not very experienced with Linux but the wireless icon does show up and I can access wireless networks, I am connected, but when I load a page on Firefox it says it is on "work offline" so I unticked it and tried again. Nothing worked again, this is weird because I am using it now to post this thread on my sisters netbook and on the pc that has the problem has Windows 7 Ultimate as a dual boot and the internet works fine on that too, the only internet problem I have is linux.

Close the application and try again.Using the command "sudo zypper refresh"eates the same message.I spent already hours trying to figure out the problem without luck
View 3 Replies View Relatedi installed Opensuse 11.2 recently but the wireless internet wasn't working been searching for few days now and i can't find the solution. it shows my modem, and i can connect to it but for some reason it appears to drop the connection it keeps asking me for my encreption key so btw is one of the first times i worked with linux / opensuse.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create a flash drive that I can use on my laptop to boot into ubuntu. I followed the instructions on the download page to create le usb drive and was successful. My problem is that whenever i install my nvidia drivers, my internet completely stops working. Both wired and wireless work fine on a fresh install. I can reboot and try again and they both still work. While installing the nvidia drivers however they both stop working, and upon a reboot they still aren't working. I can connect via my desktop and my phone to the same access point i'm trying to go through on my laptop, so the problem is isolated to my laptop.

I just installed 11.4 via the net install cd. In the configuration step, the internet connection test fails. Why would this happen if I just installed opensuse using the internet? It looks to me as if opensuse can already figure out how to use my network card. I went ahead and skipped the test, but it still doesn't make any sense to me. Let's see if internet works once I'm logged in...
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter earlier problems with 11.2-32, I replaced the 8 year old MB with a new Asus and an AMD Athlon II dual core CPU, 4 GB of RAM. New HD. First install of openSuse 11.2-64 completed, but have not been able to update repositories and Firefox won't connect to any WWW server outside of the LAN. Errors are about not being able to download from repos, can't resolve address, yet from a terminal on the 11.2 machine I can ping download.opensuse.org, yahoo.com, and the DNS servers. But the Updater Applet says "repo not available:failed to download..." It appears some programs, including the Updater Applet, can't resolve download.opensuse.org while others can.
I've gone through the configs of Network Settings in 11.2 to make them match a working 11.1 install on another machine. I've looked at the fire wall settings (http is not an option on the pull down list), Checked the router settings, but that shouldn't be the cause since the machine with 11.1 operates normally from the same LAN.Another odd thing: Obviously can boot from the CD drive, but putting a data disk in, Dolphin doesn't show the files. Related?
Since the DVD is only 4.7GB and missing some stuff (e.g. pvm) I decided to download the network install /oss folder for openSUSE 11.2 so that I can install multiple copies locally and keep my bandwidth usage down.
I've downloaded the full /oss folder using wget -r and wget -cr during my ISP's free bandwidth slot (12-8am - and it took 2 sessions to get it all).Wget didn't throw up any errors so why the difference? Is there any (simple) way I can check the integrity of the download?
I am trying to connect my desktop to my laptop over a non-internet connected LAN, but when i enable the LAN connection on my desktop (the one with the wireless) its internet stops working.
it is a very similar problem to this except that i am using ubuntu for the machine with the two connections.
right now i have my wireless on the 192.168.1.* address space, while the LAN is to be on 192.168.5.*
note: my goal is not to share internet with my laptop, just be able to connect to it and the internet at the same time.
desktop: ubuntu 9.10 , wireless and LAN
laptop: windows xp, LAN only
I recently installed ubuntu on my mom's computer but I can't get the mouse to move trough the touch pad and I suspect the USB is not working either, because I can't get anything to work trough the USB, and the Internet is not working trough the cable, and I think wireless as well. Her computer is an old acer aspire 3000

View 9 Replies View Related(1) What is the difference between OpenSuse and Suse Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) ? I see there is a link to download SLES in the Novell site. Will we have to buy SLES after 60 days for us to continue to use that OS ?
(2) I see this link Software.openSUSE.org
There is this link to download 4.7 GB DVD of Opensuse. Does that mean we need not have to download any packages from this repository, ndex of /distribution/11.2/repo/oss/suse/i586
For installing Oracle on Opensuse 9 I remember I had to install many of those packages on my laptop.
Do we still need to install those packages ?
(3) I have to install this SUSE (either Opensuse or SLES) on my laptop. My Laptop is Compaq Presario CQ60.
Can I connect to Internet if I install this software ?
Last time I faced lots of problems. I thought some laptops cannot be configured to Internet if installed with Linux.
I'm trying to install opensuse using the internet install feature. After the loading linux kernel screen, I see a black screen with a lot of commands/steps. It keeps hanging at the line: [2.202543] [<c0804db73>] kernel_thread_helper+0x7/0x10And at the same time, caps-lock and scroll lock lights on my keyboard are blinking. What does this mean? what i see is this:
Code:
[2.121594] VFS: cannot open root device "<null>" or unknown-block (3,1)
[2.121873] please append a correct "root"= boot option; here are the available options:

After I installed a new version of firefox and try to use it I get the following:
morad@linux-6xg0:~/firefox> firefox
Could not find compatible GRE between version 1.9.2.0 and 1.9.2.0.
morad@linux-6xg0:~/firefox>
Also I cant browse the internet from the desktop icon, but I can using the Konqureror browse the internet. I am using openSUSE11.1 32-bit with KDE.
start out with I don't know much about computers and I'm using my brothers computer that has Opensuse. I am unable to ask him how to do this but I am trying to download programs off the internet.
I click download and software "CrossOver Installer" comes up and it says "Select an application to install." What do I pick?
I installed OpenSuse 11.04. To connect to the Internet, I use the script which connects to my Internet provider:
Code:
linux-aghn:/home/alex # cable-start
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/4
PAP authentication succeeded
[code]....
At this stage in another Linux distribution I am connected. In OpenSuse, when I start Firefox, it cannot connect. The problem is not in the browser, Software Management program also reports that connection is not available. ping 212.199.17.154 is successful. I tried to disable Firewall - doesn't help.
I have problem after install opensuse 11.2 on lenovo R61. I have no connection to internet, although on liveCD (opensuse 11.2) is internet connection functional. In ubuntu or opensuse 11.1 was all OK, connection was functional.- at DSL Configuration / Ethernet Card is Unknown device- in hardware is Card: 82566MC Gigabit Network Connection (eth0)- modprobe wl write it FATAL: Module wl not found.
