i have a dual boot system with xp and ubuntu 10.10 (which i recently installed). The internet works fine on my xp but on ubunutu it did not work.
i tried few things, like changing the proxy setting in mozilla firefox etc, but i did not work

I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10, coming from 10.04 and the wired network connection sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. Right now I manually removed current network from System-->Preferences--> network connections, define a new one, and reboot. This usually fixes, although I've had to do this two times in the past.

Ubuntu 10.10 64bit, EVGA P55 motherboard, on board either net.
I decided to do a fresh install of 10.04LTS on a Dell Latitude D600 Laptopne wordDisaster I have no wireless or WIRED internet connection. After viewing another post I've provided the output of "sudo lshw -C network" command below (I've blocked out my MAC address on purpose). It appears that the lan card is not even being recognized. The card is enabled in bios (I've checked twice). I don't get it, the wireless worked fine before I did a fresh install of 10.04LTS. I can't use wireless because I have the b43 driver firmware issue that I can't resolve unless I get my wired connection working.

I have been looking around the forums searching for similar problems, it seems not only me had this problem. About a month ago I did a regular update via Upd Manager. The next day - no wired connection.Still managable, since the local library has wireless. Now that won't work either.Just after I upgraded from Jaunty, I accidentally removed NetwMngr from the top right corner of the screen, but that should not have anything to do with how the program works, right? I now cannot reach NM, if I run it from the terminal, nothing happens visibly.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently did a fresh install of 10.04 from 9.04 and since then I am unable to use Internet. However my ethernet connection is working fine, as I am able to login to modem and check configuration. I reinstalled twice, downloaded fresh 64-bit & 32-bit and also followed kernel update steps as in few forum posts, but no joy. The firefox is throwing an error "The connection has timed out". My internet connection is working fine as I am able to use my Windows Laptop to post this message. I checked system > administration > hardware drivers and couldn't find any unsupported hardwares.I had similar issue when upgrading to 9.10, hence stayed on 9.04. When I looked at LTS image, I couldn't resist and cleaned up 9.04.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 10.04 into my compaq notebook. The problem is that I am not able to connect to my wired broadband internet.
Here are the details of my attempts so far:
1)"ifconfig -a" gave 2 devices eth0 and wlan0.
2)"pppoeconf" was unable to detect any ethernet cards.
3)Each time I plug in the LAN cable , the network icon would say "connecting" and ultimately result in "disconnected.Now in offline mode".My ethernet device is Realtek PCIe RT8101E/RTL102E (rev 02).
I also tried to install the realtek driver though I was not confident whether I did it correct.
I'm running Windows 7 and Xubuntu 10.10 on a dell pc. My wireless works fine when I run windows 7, but on Xubuntu, the wireless doesn't even come as an option. When I try to plug in the wired connection, it loads for about a minute then tells me I'm disconnect. The option for the wired connection is there, but when I try to click it, the same thing happens. What do I do?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI had shut down my laptop at work last week and when I booted it up the wired internet connect was not working.The wireless connection is working (I'm typing now via wireless).I have WinXP Pro on this machine (but I've never used it--I'm all Linux now). So I booted into WinXP and turned off the wireless and got internet connection through the ethernet cable, so it doesn't seem to be the cable or my ethernet card.Here is the output of "ifconfig"

Ever since my BT Hub 2 has updated a few weeks ago I'm unable to connect to the internet either wireless or wired. I duel boot on my netbook with xp and duel boot my desktop PC with windows 7. None of the Ubuntu�s are able to connect, I have no problems with the windows side of things.
Has anyone any ideas on how to fix this until BT decide to fix the problem. Preferably a step to step guide as I have limited experience with Ubuntu. I�m using Ubuntu 11.04.

So i just intstalled ubutnu for the first time and the internet doesnt seem to be working, i am able to go on some majour websites such as google and gmail but others i am unable to visit.
I tried creating a blacklist-ipv6.conf file in the appropirate location
and i have even tried turining off ipv6 i forfox about config by chagning the value o true
but without any luck.
btw i tried pinging google and it works
my computer is connected to a t homehub and these are some screenshots i thought you might find useful.
I just installed ubuntu 10 on my pc and unfortunatly I don't have internet. I only have one pc wired to my 2wire modem. I want to use dhcp, no static ip if possible.

After a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04 (from 10.04) and spending several hours trying to figure out why the ad-hoc connection between my two computers (Fedora14 <-> Ubuntu 11.04) no longer worked - it had worked fine for almost 2 years with 10.04 - I've finally concluded it was a DHCP problem. This realisation (which was slow in coming!) dawned on me when I reversed my setup and configured the Fedora box as the DHCP server and everything was suddenly working perfectly! A quick internet search threw up an installation file called "isc-dhcp-server" which other Ubuntu 11.04 - related forums are also complaining about. My problem is that this file, although available in the repository, is not even installed!!!
It seems unlikely that the developers forgot to include DHCP support, so I hope someone can point me in the right direction.
we are trying to install this NIC Rosewill RC-400 Chipset RTL8169S-32 in Ubuntu 9.04 we downloaded the drivers from Rosewill website (For kernel 2.4.x and 2.6.x V 3.1) but when we follow the instruction in the readme file and do make clean modules and error comes out

So I went do realteak downloaded latest available drivers that seems to be were release yesterday did same command and same error So I made only make and it went fine did then make clean modules and went fine so made make install, depmod -a and modprobe r8169 verify int was up and getting correct ip from router but I'm not able to access the internet or ping any IP address

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy desktop computer has another Linux distro on it. Wired networking was working fine. I wanted to try Ubuntu 10.10 so I installed it on a spare USB HDD. After install, networking still worked on both distros.
I moved the USB HDD to my win7 laptop and Ubuntu 10.10 booted fine. Once booted, Ubuntu asked to configure wireless on the laptop. I tried to do this but it did not work.
Therefore, I moved the USB HHD back to the desktop and booted. Now the wired network does not work from either Ubuntu or other distro (fedora 14). And to top it all off, the wired network will not work even from the Ubuntu live CD.
I have checked all connections, switches & cat5 cables to my desktop computer. I can still access the network and internet from my laptop (in win7) so I do not believe it is an infrastructure issue. I can confirm that everything works from the cable out of the back of the desktop through to the internet.

Just tried new Fedora 11 yesterday, did a fresh install with ext3 /boot and ext4 file system, booting looks great, but wireless doesn't work. I have tried using broadcom-wl, dnmouse script, dnmouse broadcom f11 rpm, fwcutter but not ndiswrapper

Even tried to blacklist b43 after installing broadcom-wl driver, but no luck. Broadcom-wl works fine with Fedora 10 on my laptop, is it possibly because of the new ext4 file system? Should I try ndiswrapper or install Fedora 10 again and do a preupgrade? I also use fedora at work.

All of the specs (gathered from lspci -n) are available here: Debian HCL - Acer / Aspire 4736Z. Wired internet does not work. I have tried `modprobe atl1e` then `service network restart`to no effect. NetworkManager says nothing is plugged in (perhaps a hotplugging issue?). eth0 is listed in ifconfig.

I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 desktop on my desktop in dual boot with Windows 7.
Heres my problem, I am unable to connect to the Internet even though my wired Ethernet connection says it is connected normally. The wierd thing about this is that I also have a wireless card in my desktop and when I connect through that I am able to connect to the Internet. I am connecting to a router that is functioning as a repeater to my main router/cable modem. I have tried to solve this myself but am having no luck. Ironically, earlier today suddenly my ethernet connection worked for a few minutes without me modifying anything.

I've got three NICs in there (for a later project), and when I connect my cable modem to any one of the NICs, then little connection triangle-spinny-thing in the upper-right tries to connect. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been using lucid ubuntu 64 bit on this pc for months with no problem till yesterday. I noticed yesterday that eth0 was no longer being set up on boot and so internet is not there now. I am currently on the internet using karmic ubuntu.
I'm thinking an update with aptitude? What can I do in lucid to get my networking working? I tried booting into recovery mode and repairing packages but my pc could not get on the net to check the packages.
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 tonight on my Acer Aspire One D250 and have no internet at all. I know both the wireless and wired internet work, as I am dual booting WinXP as well.
