Ubuntu :: 10.04 Boot Up - Plymouth Displays Some Stuff - Several Lines

May 6, 2010

My system runs fine, I have an Nvidia card and when I boot up I guess it would be Plymouth displays some stuff; several lines and it goes by too quick for me to be able to read much of it.

Then it goes back to normal and the login in screen appears like normal. Everything is normal except for the black display and the stuff that is displayed before the login screen appears. Even with this, my system boots up in under 20 seconds at last check.

Is there anything I should/could do to get the errors or information lines or whatever they are to not show up?

I installed Lucid during beta (I think) and have kept up with the updates and all appears smooth to me. I have a super nice custom grub2 screen.

Ubuntu :: Configuring Plymouth - Solar Displays But At Very Low Resolution

Jul 4, 2010

I tried to switch my Plymouth install from the default Kubuntu splash to Solar. Now, when I boot up, it shows a low-resolution default Ubuntu splash, with a monospaced-text logo. On shutdown, Solar displays, but at a very low resolution. How do I fix this?

Ubuntu :: Plymouth Displays For About 1-2 Seconds Then Shows Login Screen?

Oct 28, 2010

Well this problem has been here since Lucid. When I start up my computer and select Ubuntu, I get a blinking underscore for about most of the start up time for Ubuntu. Then It quickly shows the nice Ubuntu Loading Screen (Plymouth) for about two seconds, then it gets to the login screen. I am using the Open Source ATI drivers, I believe the open drivers are called "radeon".

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Web Cam Chatroulette - Displays Yellow And Blue Lines Across Its On Screen Display Box

Mar 6, 2010

I got out my old Fuji Finepix s3100 and set it to web cam mode to see if anything had changed in the world of usb video drivers. Lo and behold it worked! I can watch myself on cheese web cam booth. kewl, but I wanted more. So, just recently hearing about chatroulette on the Daily Show, I click and wahla no go . After flash comes up and asks for and receives user permission to access my hardware, I click to find a random stranger, and my camera displays yellow and blue lines across its onscreen display box. I notice that movement is noticed by the camera. If I move I notice a change in background/lines. As far as I can tell, my camera is not a fault. I mean it works for local viewing. Is this a flash or possibly a chatroulette problem?

Ubuntu :: Plymouth Doing Nothing On Boot?

Dec 23, 2010

I'm using Xubuntu 10.10, with 2.6.35-24-generic kernel. I'm 64-bit. If it helps at all, I'm using xorg-edgers, but that doesn't seem to mean anything here.My issue is that Plymouth is doing absolutely nothing on boot. I know this from using bootchart and seeing that Plymouth launches itself three times, but not seeing anything every boot. The only splash I do see is after I log in, the mouse thing, but that's XFCE.

So, how can I either remove Plymouth entirely, get it working, or find a better splash program? The reason why I ask how to get rid of Plymouth is because it may be entangled in some things that apt-get purge wouldn't fix.

Ubuntu Installation :: Plymouth Low Res Boot Screen

Apr 11, 2010

I have searched the forums on this problem and I am still not really clear on the fix for this or even if I should wait for final release. I am running Lucid 64bit and have upgraded through the cycle from Karmic. I am using nvidia proprietary drivers. All the time that the Plymouth boot screen has been available it has been in low resolution. As we are now at beta 2 I am torn between searching a fix or waiting for the final release. So, from what I have read I need the 'nouveau' driver to fix this issue.

1. How do I install this in place of my existing nvidia proprietary driver?

2. I am a little bit confused by the hardware drivers selection panel telling me that I have an nvidia driver installed but that it is not in use-I read that this might be a bug?

Basically, I put this in the Terminal: sudo update-alternatives --config default.plymouth

I then selected a theme (I believe it was spinning something or other). Then I entered: sudo update-initramfs -u

Now, when I boot up, it just sits on a blank screen after I select to start up with ubuntu. I can't boot into ubuntu at all.

Ubuntu :: Purple/black Boot Screen No Plymouth.

May 1, 2011

I already had Plymouth issues on 10.10, which was solved by this script [URL]

After upgrade, boot only gave me a blank, purple screen, so I used his revert script then tried this : [URL]

But I'm only getting a black screen. Removing vga=795 option only make it stay purple. It might be because of the multiples workarounds I tried back in 10.10, but I don't know how to clean that up. I have an ATI HD Radeon Pro 2400 card with free drivers (but I was using the proprietary ones during upgrade).

Ubuntu Installation :: Boot Failure After Upgrading And Subsequent With Plymouth

May 6, 2011

She was running a script in R (which was supposed to take a regression from R and output to LaTeX) but it failed, causing a "massive core dump" and shut down her computer. She rebooted, performed a recovery, but her system was still running slowly so she decided to upgrade to Narwhal. At this point she received an error message saying that the upgrade was interrupted by an eclipse package, and it failed, saying that her (disk? she couldn't remember) "may not be recoverable." Now, when I try to boot from GRUB, from any kernel listed ($22, $25, $27, and $28 ), I get the following error message:

I booted from a LiveCD, and it worked (including the splash screen). I then scanned the hard drive with smartctl, and looked at it in Gparted. Nothing seemed amiss. I could open files stored on the hard drive from the LiveCD, so I think there is something wrong with the boot process but I don't know how to fix it. One idea I've got is to run Super GRUB Disk and see if that fixes my boot problems.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: XBMCBuntu - Running 2 X Displays At Boot?

Jan 14, 2011

I have a Asus EEE Box EB1007-W0067 running as htpc in my livingroom. Due to the limited hardware in the box i'm running Ubuntu server with a minimal xorg-xserver installation. The system autoinlogs into the xbmc user and spawns a xserver only running XBMC. Slim, fast and no fuzz . So far i'm realy happy about the setup. 1080p? no problem.

However, since there is no Spotify Addon for XBMC yet (in development but still way to buggy to use in a none development enviroment) i have to fallback to running Spotify native. And here comes the problem; I can't start Spotify in XBMC because XBMC will run it in the background. And since my wife must be able to use the system i've to come out with something easy to use. Is it possible to make ubuntu-server to boot into 2 diffrent X-Displays. One running XBMC and one running Spotify, i think my wife (and others) would be able to switch displays with ctr-alt-F7/F8.

Under Nvidia Drivers - No More Plymouth Graphical Boot

Ubuntu :: Boot Splash In 10.10 \ Adding A New Theme In Plymouth And Switched To That Instead, But It Still Doesn't Come Up?

I recently upgraded to 64-bit maverick (from 64-bit lucid) and I'm getting this ugly boot splash now - it's a purple screen with a very basic "ubuntu 10.10" written in terminal font and four dots underneath. I am running a dell xps m1530 with nvidia graphics card, and haven't had any trouble with the boot splash before. I have run the additional hardware drivers utility and it says I have the latest Nvidia driver already loaded apparently.I have looked around the forums and tried a few suggested solutions, like updating the initramfs with the framebuffer=y line but that didn't do anything. I also tried adding a new theme in plymouth and switched to that instead, but it still doesn't come up.

Ubuntu Installation :: Only See Recovery Kernels In GRUB2 After Plymouth Script - Can't Boot Normally

Oct 19, 2010

I am using a Dell XPS m1330 with ubuntu Maverick 10.10 and with a Nvidia card. Recently I wanted to add plymouth support to my boot screens via this script: [URL].... but maybe i did something that ruined my pc and now, in GRUB, i can only see recovery kernels. The situation is this: in grub i see

linux recovery kernel 1
linux recovery kernel 2 (old one)
memtest
windows 7

My "normal" linux kernels disappeared. When I want to boot linux I use a recovery kernel, then I simply hit "resume" in the process, do the textual login and than use the command "startx" to start the system. However i'm getting no Plymouth and no normal boot. I have already tried to fix grub recreating the linux kernels, but they just don't show.
